Sixth Edition

  • 6E: The 6th Edition rules, as a whole.
  • 6E1: The HERO System 6th Edition, Volume 1: Character Creation.
  • 6E2: The HERO System 6th Edition, Volume 2: Combat And Adventuring.
  • APG: The HERO System Advanced Player's Guide, a book of advanced, expanded, and optional rules for the HERO System.
  • BR: The HERO System Basic Rulebook, a 136-page condensation of the full 6E rules for easy learning and quick play.
  • CBY: Champions Beyond, a supplement describing the moon, the solar system, outer space, and aliens in the Champions Universe.
  • CO: Champions Online, the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online roleplaying game) created and published by Cryptic Studios based on the Champions Universe.
  • CU: The Champions Universe, Hero Games's main setting for Champions, as detailed in many supplements (including, first and foremost, the book of the same name).
  • CV: Champions Villains, a trilogy of supplements describing the villains of the Champions Universe. CV1 covers master villains; CV2 covers villain teams; and CV3 covers solo villains.
  • DC: Dark Champions, Hero Game's genre book for modern-day action-adventure.
  • FH: Fantasy Hero, Hero Games's genre book for Fantasy roleplaying.
  • HPA: Hero Plus Adventure, Hero Games's line of short, inexpensive PDF adventures.
  • HSB: The HERO System Bestiary, a book of creatures, monsters, animals, robots, humanoids, and similar beings for all HERO System games.
  • HSEG: The HERO System Equipment Guide, a reference book of equipment, weapons, and gear for all settings and genres.
  • HSG: The HERO System Grimoire, a collection of over 700 spells for HERO System games.
  • HSMA: HERO System Martial Arts, a supplement with advanced, expanded, and optional rules for martial arts and HTH combat, a discussion of the Martial Arts genre, and related material.
  • HSS: HERO System Skills, a book providing advanced rules for Skills in the HERO System. As of this writing (February 2011), HSS is only available as a PDF. However, textually it's largely the same as the 5th Edition book The Ultimate Skill; in fact, we arranged the pages so that they're identically numbered. A page reference to, say, HSS 221 also refers to TUS 221, for example.
  • HSV: HERO System Vehicles, a book of advanced rules for creating and using vehicles, including hundreds of examples from all time periods, settings, and genres.
  • PAH: Post-Apocalyptic Hero, Hero Games's genre book for Post-Apocalyptic roleplaying.
  • PH: Pulp Hero, Hero Games's genre book for Pulp-era (1920s-30s) and Pulp fiction-style roleplaying.
  • SH: Star Hero, Hero Games's genre book for Science Fiction roleplaying.

5th Edition Abbreviations

Hero fans use the following abbreviations for various books published for the 5th Edition of the rules:

  • 5E: The HERO System 5th Edition.
  • 5ER: The HERO System 5th Edition, Revised.
  • AA: Arcane Adversaries, a book of mystic-themed enemies for Champions.
  • AB: The Asian Bestiary, Hero Games's book of creatures and monsters from Asian mythology, legend, and folklore (not yet published).
  • AtA: The Atlantean Age, a setting book for Fantasy Hero.
  • BoD: The Book Of The Destroyer, a supplement for Champions that takes an in-depth look at the master villain Dr. Destroyer.
  • CB: Champions Battlegrounds, Hero Games's book of scenarios and maps for Champions.
  • CCC: Cops, Crews, And Cabals, Hero Games's book of minor organizations for Champions.
  • CH: The HERO System Combat Handbook, a reference book for the HERO System combat rules.
  • CKC: Conquerors, Killers, And Crooks, Hero Games's primary book of enemies for Champions.
  • COTN: Champions Of The North, Hero Games's book about superheroes and villains in Canada for Champions.
  • CU: Champions Universe, Hero Games's main setting book for Champions (due to be published in Autumn 2002). Also used, in a more general sense, to refer to the Champions Universe, the setting depicted in the book.
  • CU:NOTW refers to Champions Universe: News Of The World, a 2007 update detailing the latest goings-on in the Champions Universe.
  • CWW: Champions Worldwide, Hero Games's book of Champions villains and heroes from around the world (i.e., all regions except the US, UK, and Canada).
  • DC: Dark Champions, Hero Game's genre book for modern-day action-adventure.
  • DCTAS, DC:TAS: Dark Champions: The Animated Series, a subgenre book for Dark Champions.
  • DH: Digital Hero, Hero Games's PDF magazine.
  • EG: The HERO System Equipment Guide, a reference book of equipment published in other HERO System books.
  • EU: Evil Unleashed, one of Hero Games's book of enemies for Champions.
  • FH: Fantasy Hero, Hero Games's genre book for Fantasy roleplaying.
  • FHB: Fantasy Hero Battlegrounds, Hero Games's book of scenarios and maps for Fantasy Hero.
  • FHG, FHG2: The Fantasy Hero Grimoire and Fantasy Hero Grimoire II, Hero Games's books of spells for Fantasy Hero.
  • FRED: The HERO System 5th Edition and 5th Edition, Revised rulebooks. The nickname derives from an offhand comment Steve made when asked what nickname the book should have ("I don't care if you call it "Fred," as long as you buy it ;)"), but has retroactively been decreed by the fans to stand for "Fifth Rules Edition."
  • G&G: Gadgets And Gear, Hero Games's book of gadgets for Champions.
  • GC: Galactic Champions, Hero Games's supplement about high-powered/futuristic Champions games.
  • HC: Hudson City, a setting book for Dark Champions.
  • HL: Hidden Lands, Hero Games's supplement about hidden superpowered civilizations for Champions.
  • HPA: Hero Plus Adventure, Hero Games's line of short, inexpensive PDF adventures.
  • HSCH: See CH.
  • HSB: The HERO System Bestiary, a book of creatures for all HERO System games.
  • HSEG: See EG.
  • HSVS: The HERO System Vehicle Sourcebook, a book of vehicles for all HERO System games.
  • LLH: Lucha Libre Hero, Hero Games's genre book for roleplaying in the bizarre world of Mexican wrestling and adventure/horror cinema.
  • m: In most cases, this is the abbreviation for "meter," the standard unit of measurement in the HERO System. When associated with the Character Point cost for a Multipower slot, it signifies a "multi," or Flexible slot (the term is a holdover from earlier editions of the rules).
  • MC: Millennium City, a city setting for Champions.
  • MM: Masterminds And Madmen, Hero Games's book of enemies for Pulp Hero.
  • MMM: Monsters, Minions, And Marauders, a book of monsters and similar adversaries for Fantasy Hero games.
  • NKN: Nobles, Knights, And Necromancers, a book of enemies and adversaries for Fantasy Hero games.
  • NH: Ninja Hero, Hero Games's genre book for martial arts roleplaying.
  • PAH: Post-Apocalyptic Hero, Hero Games's genre book for Post-Apocalyptic roleplaying.
  • PH: Pulp Hero, Hero Games's genre book for Pulp-era (1920s-30s) and Pulp fiction-style roleplaying.
  • SG: Scourges Of The Galaxy, a book of enemies and adversaries for Star Hero games.
  • SH: Star Hero, Hero Games's genre book for Science Fiction roleplaying.
  • SHD: Stronghold, Hero Games's book about a prison for supervillains in Champions.
  • STAST: Sharper Than A Serpent's Tooth, a scenario for Champions.
  • TA: The Turakian Age, a setting book for Fantasy Hero.
  • TC: Teen Champions, Hero Games's supplement about teenaged superheroes and superheroing.
  • TE: Terran Empire, a setting book for Star Hero.
  • TM: Tuala Morn, a setting for Fantasy Hero.
  • TMW: The Mystic World, a book about mystic characters, spells, places, and villains in the Champions Universe.
  • TUB: See UB.
  • TUM: The Ultimate Mentalist, Hero Games's book of advanced rules for psionics and Mental Powers.
  • TUS: The Ultimate Skill, Hero Games's book of advanced rules for Skills (not yet published).
  • TUV: The Ultimate Vehicle, Hero Games's book of advanced vehicle creation and use rules.
  • TWF: Two-Weapon Fighting.

  • UMA: The Ultimate Martial Artist, Hero Games's book of advanced martial arts rules.
  • UMM: The Ultimate Metamorph, Hero Games's book of advanced rules for Body-Affecting Powers and shapechanging characters.
  • UMY: The Ultimate Mystic, Hero Games's book of information about and advanced rules for mysticism and magic in HERO System games.
  • USP: The Ultimate Speedster, Hero Games's book of advanced rules for movement and Movement Powers.
  • USPD, USPD2: The UNTIL Superpowers Database and The UNTIL Superpowers Database II, Hero Games's books of pre-generated superpowers for Champions.
  • VA: The Valdorian Age, a setting for Fantasy Hero.
  • VAmok: Villainy Amok, a book of scenarios and scenario advice for Champions.
  • VB: Vibora Bay, a city setting for Champions.
  • VVV: Villains, Vandals, And Vermin, one of Hero Games's book of enemies for Champions.
