Again, sorry if this won't apply to the release - in the demo version, the equipment costs points. I can't find anything that changes it. Also will there be a difference in the templates - in the demo the normal, heroic, and superheroic all start out with 350 points. Do these need to be modified in the campaign rules? If so, then what are the templates for?
edit - i just noticed the templates don't do anything in the demo, so maybe that's the problem - either its disabled or I have a bad download.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
Anything purchased on the equipment tab is not included in the point total for the character. Equipment has never cost points in HD, nor will it....that's for powers.
Templates all work just fine. If you're talking about character templates, they have a rather large (though sometimes subtle) effect on the rules being used. If you're talking export templates, they determine everything about the output from the app.

In the demo version I just downloaded tonight, if I design a piece of equipment (say armor), it costs character points. It changes to total listed at the top of the window (which is always 350 points).
The templates I'm talking about are the ones listed on their own drop down menu (normal, heroic, superheroic, vehicle, etc). In the version that I have (and this is the demo, not the beta release thats out), the different templates seem to have no effect - the point total doesn't change, nor do any powers/etc - the vehicle still has a base 200 + 150 disadvantages that the normal and heroic and superheroic templates have. This may be part of the program disabled for the demo, though.

No, it doesn't. It lists the Real Cost for that piece of Equipment and the total "cost" of Equipment purchased, but if you look closely at the top point totals, you will never see the total spent increase one bit. Equipment is not counted against the character's point total. Ever. It never has been.
The costs are listed because many GMs limit the total "cost" of Equipment that their characters can have. Others limit the Active Point totals....others limit the values. All methods are supported in HD.
The different templates will have an effect. Rules change between them, available Limitations change, and the construction of some powers/abilities change. This has always been the case.
If you choose a Vehicle template, you'll see a huge change on the Characteristics tab and the rules on various Powers (in particular Movement Powers) will be changed. There will also be a slew of new Modifiers added in (and some removed).
If you change from Superheroic to Heroic, you see the END usage for STR change, and Leaping will be figured from your STR (among other things).
The template determines the rules set that you are using.

OK - you're right - I got a better look at it. Do you need to change the point base under campaign rules then? That still seems to stay at 350 points no matter what template I go to.

Try looking at the first tab.

The default point base can also be adjusted under the Campaign Rules if you want to distribute a set of rules/starting points to your players.

I did - it always stays at 200 base plus 150 disadvantages, for all of the templates.

Look. At. The. First. Tab.
You know, the one where you specify Base Points, Disad Points, and Experience.
Change the values there.
The template has nothing to do with available points. It has to do with rules.
The points are set on the first tab (by typing them in). Alternately, you can set the defaults for them in the campaign rules.

OK - I kept misunderstanding it - I thought changing the template changed the default point value automatically. I understand now. Thanks.
