Is anyone here besides cognizant of the intentional similarity between Les' "special broadcast" on that episode, and the infamous Hindenberg report? ;)

Actually, this is one I've wanted to do for years. But it's not worth a whole book. Someday we'll have to do a "genre book" of various second-rate genres (second-rate for gaming, that is) that don't need a book of their own -- Sitcom Hero, Cartoon Hero, Rock 'n' Roll Hero, Caper Hero, and so on and so forth.... ;)

Hey, any one of these would be excellent for a Digital HERO article. However, I'd want to change "Rock 'n' Roll Hero" to "Jukebox Hero" -- y'know... just 'cause. ;)

Great post Steve, my wife and I are both huge fans of that episode, definitely one of the best - in a generally underappreciated show.

It's pink.
I just told you it was pink.

New hobby?
What's in the box Herb?
My daughters frog, I accidently painted it pink so don't tell me its pink.
What's its name?

Glad to see there are other WKRP fans out there.
I wish they'd put the show out on DVD, but from what I understand that's probably never gonna happen. :(

Maybe we can help things out a bit by putting a picture of Gordon Jump on the cover of Sitcom HERO. ;)

I just checked TV Shows on DVD, and it looks like there are no plans. They're pretty accurate, with diminishing accuracy as the time to release increases. :(

I just checked TV Shows on DVD, and it looks like there are no plans.
A videophile friend of mine, who follows these things pretty closely, tells me it's almost certainly never going to happen. Apparently the producers of WKRP, when licensing the rights to use actual rock songs in the show, didn't think about the possibility of things like selling episodes to consumers... so their license doesn't cover that. To release a DVD collection would mean going back and re-buying the rights to all those songs, which is logistically and financially prohibitive.
Ah, well. :(

I found it amusing that so many of the actors from WKRP managed to find their way onto Simon & Simon either as a one shot or a reoccuring character. I didn't see much of most of them after WKRP but I think all except Andy made it into at least one episode.

The connection between WKRP and Simon & Simon was Bill Dial who was a producer on both shows. Bill Dial was also seen on camera in WKRP as Bucky the engineer in a few episodes.
And yeah, I've basically heard similar things to what Steve has heard regarding music rights. It's too bad because I would love to have the whole series on DVD.

Ah, well. :(
Digital audio editing is getting good enough that they might be able to soon "scrub" the frequencies so as to render that a non-issue. Of course, there may be other issues in that the licenses may REQUIRE the songs to play audibly, but usually those requirements only are in place for first-run.

Man, now I really want WKRP on DVD.
I'm not much into TV comedy, but when I talk about it with friends I mention that I would only get 3 maybe four series on DVD. MASH, Family Ties, Barny Miller and Night Court. I can't believe I forgot about WKRP. Another to add to the list.

M*A*S*H is already available -- and compared to many TV shows on tape, it's damn cheap.
I wouldn't mind seeing some Night Court DVDs meself.

I was just saying the other day that Night Court was probably one of the few Sitcoms I would buy on DVD, but I guess WKRP would be on the list too. :)
I would probably buy Carol Burnett, but I probably couldn't afford it.
I have some Red Skelton DVDs. :)

To point one, I know, I have the first 4 seasons. To you second point Oh yeah... this from someone who collects most SF TV on DVD (Star Trek, Andromeda, Farscape, B5). MASH is a drop in the bucket compared to those.
But I still want my Barney Miller and Night Court.... Wahhh!

I'm waiting for Wild, Wild West myself. Then again, I need a hell of lot more money if I was to get all the DVDs I wanted. :)

Carlson: What orchestra is that?
Johnny: Pink Floyd...
Carlson: Ah... Do I hear dogs?
Johnny: I do...
Mr Carlson & Johnny Fever, in the booth, while "Dogs" from Animals is playing...
(The only time I remember a Floyd reference on TV outside of the Simpsons or the rare episode of Whose Line Is It Anyway?)
