View Full Version : Repeating Limitations

Is there any way when creating a Framework where all slots have the same Limitation (such as OIHID) applied to the Framework to prevent that Limitation from appearing in each individual slot? v1 allowed this, but I can't seem to do it in v2. Constantly repeating the same information several times not only clutters up the already complicated HERO character sheets but also requires more space on paper. (A character I used to fit on 1 sheet now takes 2 solely due to this.)

That was added in at Steve Long's request.
If you want it to be an option, you'll need to talk to him.

It should also be noted that the diplay of the common Limitations on each slot is according to the WG (per Steve), which is why he wanted it in.

Again, you'll have to go through Steve on this one. If he agrees, I have no problem adding it in as one of the app prefs (doesn't really belong in Campaign Rules).

I just noticed you can turn off the Writer's Guidelines in Preferences. That being the case, shouldn't the WG rules Steve used as his rationale for this ruling also be disabled when that option is selected? Does that seem unreasonable?
Sorry if I seem to be ragging on you, but I thought the main purpose of v2 was increased flexibility and now I find less. :(

Stop it. When Steve tells me that it's ok to make that an option, I will make it an option.
You are NOT finding less flexibility in any way, shape, or form. You are not able to change one piece of the formatting for a feature that did not exist before. If you want to take that one piece of the application and discount the rest of the features/flexibility that have been worked in, then that's your lookout.
My job is to create the software to the requirements of Hero Games. When they give me specific things that they want in the app, I put them in. They will remain in the app until such time as they tell me otherwise.

I've been a big fan of Hero Designer since it came out; as you might have surmised given the fact that I DL'd the v2 upgrade the day it was released. I fully understand your position with regard to Hero Games, and I am not asking you to make an unauthorised change. As I stated above, I sent a link to this thread to Steve Long. I am presenting my case in this thread. He can read this thread and judge my arguments based on their merits without any need for back and forth e-mails. This also allows other HDv2 users to add their input to the discussion, pro or con.
To present my case in a nutshell: I feel it makes little sense to speak of improved customization of formats and export templates and then sharply curtail the customization available in the area in which HERO Games should logically desire the least control over: How the character displays on a printed copy for the use of the player. Listing (as an example) OAF: Pistol on both the Multipower Pool and also every individual slot in the Ping Pong Ball Gun(tm) is redundant and clutters what is already necessarily a rather complicated character sheet.
I can certainly agree with the necessity of following the HERO rules, but this is not an issue of the rules but purely one of export formats. I would not have any problem if the Hero Board and Submission formats follow Steve's directive. Those formats are for character reviews, and every nuance should be visible for examination.
Again, Dan, if you somehow felt I was attacking either you or your program I sincerely apologize.

That is what I was keying off of. That is not a statement to Steve, but one to me (given the context)...and regardless is just a tad insulting to me after the work that I've put into building flexibility into v2.

Rereading my earlier posting, I can see how you could quite reasonably have taken it that way. I certainly could have phrased it better. Again, my humble apologies.

I'm creating a powered armor character, and I remembered browsing this thread in the recent past. Was there ever a final answer on this one?

Check the current build.

Sorry for the oversight, Dan!
Thanks for working with all of us end users to get HD2 to be even better, which I didn't think was even possible! :D
You've truly done an incredible job on this application, and I appreciate all of your hard work.
