I have been experiencing HD crashing while I am working building powers on a character sheet. It did it a couple times this evening, much to my frustration at losing several minutes worth of work and having to redo it all over again.
I am running HD on a 800 Mhz computer, 30GB Hard-drive, 512MB RAM, Windows Me (yeah.. I know, stop laughing...).
Does anuone know why this program crashes?
Thanks

Simon will probably want a few more details.
Which version of HD1? 1.47 perhaps?
Post the trace.log.

drat. Lemming beat me to it.
The version and the trace.log file (after a crash, but before a restart) are what I'll need to help you trouble shoot this one.
The trace.log file can be found in the directory that HD is installed in (typically C:\Program Files\HeroDesigner).

I am running HD v1.44 and here is the tace log file. I had to put it in a Winzip file as the board doesn't allow me to post a file with a .log extension.
Thanks

As I was afraid, there are no errors in the trace.log file.
This means that the error is occuring outside of HD (outside of Java).
I have seem some systems where Java becomes unstable with the OS....the OS crashing the JVM and ending all applications that are running. Windows ME seems particularly vulnerable to this.
I'm not entirely sure on the cause, but one fix that I've found is to re-install the JVM. To do this under HD, do the following:
1. Go to http://java.com/en/index.jsp and grab the current installer for Java2 1.4.2 (there should be a "get it now" button in the top right corner of the page).
2. After you've installed the new version of Java, go to the directory that you installed HD to and delete the "jre" directory. That will remove the JVM that HD is using, forcing it to use the Java that you just installed.
3. Restart HD.
Hopefully this will fix any problems that you're having.....let me know if you still have difficulties...

Thanks for the help. If the problems continue, I'll let you know.

Looks like your solution did the trick Simon. I spent all this evening building powers to a List and with no problems.
Thanks

Uhh.. it seems that HD is still crashing on me. I have been getting a Windows error popup saying that "Hero Designer has caused an error in JVM.DLL and will be shut down. If problem continues try restarting your computer"
The problem keeps happening whether I restart my computer or not.
Any suggestions Simon?

Not much....about all you can do is install Java again.
Your system is having issues with Java....it's really not an HD problem, unfortunately (if it were, I could fix it). Since HD runs via Java, when Java crashes, so does HD.
