Hey Guys,

I've posted over in the LOH section but thought i betetr post here too.

I'm trying to get a bunch of Hero GMs lined up to run games in Open Gaming at Dundracon. Darren says that if we can get the comittments to run, he's willing to talk to the Con RPG coordinator about having a corner of the Open Gaming area that we can "own" as an Open hero games area.

So, how about it? If those of you running scheduled games could commit to one run of your game in Open Gaming as well it would be terrific :)

(There's a thread over in LOH on this but I'm not sure everyone can read that.)

Woo hoo!
My threadbare description of a game has been accepted. Looks like I'll be doing the Sunday 6pm shift. Lego my Hero is the title.
I probably won't run it in the Open Gaming room. Too much extra stuff to lug about, but I'll see if I can put something else together for Saturday afternoon or Friday night. depending of course on other gaming events going on...yada yada yada

The DDC schedule is chock full of Hero goodness this year, as always. I count fifteen Hero games over the weekend, including those listed above, plus many seminars and fun stuff. Here's the highlights as we see 'em:

Friday 2/13
We'll show up in mid-afternoon to assemble the booth and see old friends. You can probably find us in the bar.

Derek's Super-Friends game at 8p- always a blast, with several Hero friends & family expected. As always, I dibs Aquaman. There's another game at 10 (Killing Time, by James Robertson.)

Saturday 2/14
8 am- 2 more Hero Games go off (Mythmatch Made In Heaven, by Chris Ranall, and an FH game, Into The Dragon's Lair (gee, wonder what that one's about?) by Jim Gettman.)

9 am- Dealer's Room opens. Come see the World Premiere of Sidekick.

9 am- I do a seminar on where scenario writers get ideas from, with old buddies Scott Bennie, Ross Winn and Michael Suileabhain-Wilson.

11am - The Infamous "What's Up WIth Hero" Seminar, by me and Steve. Always a packed house, so get yer seats early. Not only will we take your questions, but we'll announce the 2005 schedule! Hoody!

4 pm. Steve and Ken Hite do a seminar about making monsters that should be a lot of fun. Also, "First Contact" by Joe DeLillio starts.

6 pm. Steve and Ken reunite for a seminar on worldbuilding, among others.

8 pm. Annual Hero Party. Come by our booth during the day and flash us the secret hand signal for the room location.

12 am "Wedding Day at Troldhaugen" by Carolly Hauksdottir begins. I heard good things about this game last year and hope to stop by. Also, unrelated to Hero but always funny, Doc Cross runs a Toon game.

Sunday 2/15
8 am - Scott Barlow runs "Our Heroes Are Missing."

9 am - Dealer's Room opens. Steve Long, Steve Kenson and Michael Suileabhain-Wilson hold a seminar about breaking into the game biz that'll be a sure one not to miss unless you're *really* sleepy, like I probably will be.

2pm - I do a seminar on what fans expect from companies as far as customer service, along with Steve Kenson and Stephen Martin. Also, "In The Course of Normal Events," by notorious supervillain David Weinstein.

4 pm. Two more Hero games: "The Seven," a Hero Samurai Jack game by Jason Krestoff, and "Voyage of the Morpheus," by David Rakonitz.

5 pm. Steve and Ken continue their long-running stage act by discussing the Must-Have RPG Books Of All-Time by genre. I'm not on this one, but I think I'll sneak over and provoke some arguments.

6 pm. I debut the "Pulp All-Stars" game. The great heroes of the '30s unite to save the world. Maybe some neat guest stars.
If that doesn't float your boat, our old buddy Lemming runs a game with Legos at the same time.

12am. The Millennium City Madman, Jason Walters, runs a Star Hero game for the insomniacs among you.

Monday 2/16
8 am - "Where All of God's Children," by BJ Goukler, and "Team from H.E.R.O." by some mug named Rod. Sleep is for the weak!

9 am - Dealer Room opens. Last chance to buy cool stuff!

Those are just a few of the Hero highlights. Also expected to show up are Hero pals like Steve Peterson, Steve Perrin, Mark Arsenault, Aldo Ghiozzi, Glenn Thain, Bruce Harlick, Mike Eckert, and probably a couple of Greers, plus more TBA. And of course, copious amounts of RPGs, CCGs, Board Games, Minis Games, Clicky Games, and random SCA-ers hitting each other with sticks! So get yer tickets now or be deemed hopelessly square for the rest of your lives! dw

Hmm, Pulp Lego with secret hand signals.

That reminds me, I need to check if any sales of minifigs are happenning on ebay. Don't know how custom people will be able to put together. Lego wings are a pain to make for them. :D

Is the open gaming area open late? If so, if I'm not too tired I'll run something before I go to sleep Saturday night. No promises, so I don't know if that counts towards getting a dedicated space, but I would like to do it if I have the energy. I've never run a convention game before and I was hesitant to volunteer and take up a hotel room when I wasn't sure if I was any good at it or not.

The open gaming area in general is open the whole time the convention runs. Whether that would apply to any potential dedicated area, I couldn't say.

What Derek said. :) There's always some sort of game going on in Open Gaming. I don't have the stamina that I used to, to be able to stay up the entire con.

On your other points, there are several threads about running convention games. They're not too different, but there are a couple gotchas.

I still want to hear more about Lego my hero cuz I'm trying to plan my schedule and that's a pretty hot slot there. I am intrigued, anything more you can tell me?

Well, the plot is still being put together, but I will be using Lego instead of a battlemat.

If people want to bring their own, they can, but I'll be hauling an assortment down with me. Haven't decided on how much extra to bring, but it will probably just be one footlocker. ;)

How do the DunDracon Powers That Be decide which time slot a convention game gets?

In most of the time slots, there is one or two Hero games. On Sunday afternoon/evening, there are five.

Derek Hiemforth
Jan 19th, '04, 05:11 PM
When they submit the game proposal, GMs can request the time window they'd prefer to run in, as well as list times they cannot run. The game coordinator for the con will honor those requests if possible. That's why you may see clusters; that's just the luck of how folks requested it. There's no plot by the con folks to group them that way. :)

Doesn't look like we'll have anything official, but between me, Catseye and one or two others I bet we can pretty much claim a table or two in open gaming for assorted Hero stuff. Tell you what- if you want to run a game in Open, swing by our booth and let us know, and we'll keep a list of GMs and their planned start times for any other players who want to check in and see what's up. dw

I can commit to playing in as many open Hero game as I can if I attend (95% probability). But would any would be GMs bring a few pre-gen characters? I assume that you would if the point is to get new players to try the game.

I was looking at the pre-reg address for Dundracon and noticed that their offices are two blocks from my Mother-In-Laws house.

Although i won't be running HERO, i will be running a game at DunDraCon. I too am looking to share my room or join with someone else in their room. (i;ve inquired with catseye about his room, but I have sneaking suspicion he's filled the vacancy). I am also looking for someone to give me a lift from and to oakland Airport before and after the conventikn, as I'm flying in from portland and have NO idea where the airport is relative to the htol, don;t drive anyway, and can;t afford cab fare.

I had an on-the-job injury, so someone who can help me pay for the hotel would be a welcome addition. I have the room for Firday, Saturday and Sunday ngihts and while i don't know how many beds there will be I am perfectly comfortable with having two or three non-smoking roommates. Them being HERo fans will help immensely, and their being anime fans will help even more as it will give me something coherent to talk about.

By the way, even though it isn't HERO I'm told my Slayers game comes highly recommended by people who have plkayed in my Slayers games before. This year's avdenture, "For the Lve of Lina", looks quite interesting.

I have my roomate, thanks guys. But given the number of responses I got it loosk like there are a number of others out there who would like to cut expenses this way so I encourage you to post and find each other.

(I won't give names or emails directly for privacy reasons.)

[i] I have the room for Firday, Saturday and Sunday ngihts and while i don't know how many beds there will be I am perfectly comfortable with having two or three non-smoking roommates.

If we had been better coordinated I coudl have gone for a 3 or 4 person room. Ah well, next time.

I am going to NEED 1-3 roommates for DunDraCon. If you don;t have your room yet and want to go to DunDraCon, contact me. Splitting the room cost 9which I have for three nights) 2-4 ways is going to help me out immesurably. Non-smokers only, please.

I have an agreement in prinicple on a room share. what I couls use at this time is maybe one more person, although it isn't essential. Although it will be nice when I get all my money together....

WHat i need more than anything else is sure transportation from and to the oakland airport. It's a week and a half to the convention and I still don;t know how I'm going to get to the hotel.

I'm cool with combining the rooms. Cheaper for everyone, right? Hopcraft, E-mail me about a ride and we'll see if I can help you get to the Airport on Monday. I'm coming from Albany so I may be able to help, but I won't be going to the con until Saturday so no good for Friday.

My Hero game ended up getting scheduled for a run on Sunday AM. I'll still try to run it once in open gaming too.

Feb 8th, '04, 07:55 PM
That's great, Catseye, that you'll get to run your game at a time you like.

My scheduled game isn;t HERO. it isn;t even the system I originally wnated to run, But if you want to join a Slayers game, it'll be available. And people tell me I run Slayers really well, mainly because of my knowledge of and affection for the characters.

Is there still plan for the Hero GMs to 'squat' in one of the Open Gaming areas at the con and use it to run open Hero games? If so, where is it?

Thanks,
Plucky

lemming
Feb 9th, '04, 10:20 AM
I think that's still the plan. Really depends if we can keep the area "staffed". I'll try to run something Friday night or Saturday. Depends on what else is going on and if I can shake this sore throat.

And where in Open Gaming? Not sure, I prefer the OG room that's closer to the lobby, but I think we're winging it. Look for the Hero books.

Darren Watts
Feb 9th, '04, 10:33 AM
Starting Saturday morning, GMs interested in running stuff in Open Gaming should come by our booth, where we'll maintain a list for players to check of who's running what and when. (Friday night you're on your own, cause we'll all be at Derek's game.) dw

Damn. I won't be at DDC this year. This sinus infection has kicked my ass and today is the first day I've made it into work all week. Not sure if I'll make it thru the day even. Anyway, naseua & a sore throat do not make a good GM. See you next year.
