View Full Version : Hero Designer Running Slow

I am trying to create a character with radiation powers and I am doing so with a VPP and some compound powers with lots of advantages and disadvantages. When I do this, Hero Designer becomes very sluggish and slow and sometimes locks up all together. When I go to change a power it can sometimes take minutes to update. Is there any way around this?

a) What version of HD are you using?

b) What are the specs on your system (OS, RAM, Processor, etc.)?

I am running the latest version...1.22 and I am running a P4 1.8 ghz with 512 megs RAMBUS and have a Geforce 4 4400 with 128 megs of RAM. My system isn't the problem because all my other programs work perfectly...it's just Hero Designer that is slowing down and locking up. The only negative is my OS. I am running on Windows Me. I have nothing active in my startup, so that is not the issue either.

OK...how about applications that may be taking up a large portion of the RAM or CPU cycles? HD will be using a large amoung of the CPU....especially on large characters. There are a rather tremendous number of calculations required to keep a character in sync as changes are made.

In particular, are you running anything like VPN software, voice recognition software, or anti virus scanners while running HD?

I can use HD without any noticable slowdown on all but the largest of characters. Dr. Destroyer tends to slow things down a bit (moving items around in the lists, switching tabs after making changes, etc), but I think that's understandable....he's a bit on the large side ;)

I have had it happen with things running in the background and not. I think maybe it is just one massive compound power that I am building and that must be what is causing it. I hope there is a way to prevent the slowdown, because it is really annoying to have to wait 5 min just to change the name of a power.

Unless you're talking about a Power with hundreds of Mods on it, it's no single Power that would be doing that.

If you like, send me the character file (or post it here) so that I can take a look at it.
