how much STR or TK would be required to hurl a person into orbit?
Few people could survive being tossed into orbit, of course -- if the air frinction from being thrown so hard doesn;t kill you, oxygen depirvation or explosive decompression will. Still, this seems like a bizarre but amusing way fro ultra-tough master villains to dispose of no-longer-wanted henchmen or simialr NPCs who don;t get much say in the matter.
You'd probably have to be about as strong as Superman to do it with sheer physical force, though. But a telekinetic could probably manage it if he was powerful enough, and the look on the victim's face as he unexpectedly made like a rocket would be priceless.

To achieve orbit you must first reach escape velocity. Escape velocity (for Earth) is about 7 miles per second. When your character throws something in Hero it is generally assumed to reach its target in 1 segement (the same phase you threw it). Since a segement is 1 second and since a hex is roughly 6.5 feet, you would need to have enough strength to toss the person 5686 hexes.
The average person weights 100 kg (in Hero system). We'll say that the person is also unbalanced and non-aerodynamic since they are probably unwilling to be thrown into orbit.
It takes 10 STR to throw a person. In a standing throw it would require an additional 1140 STR to throw them 5686 hexes. So I'd say the STR required would be 1150.
All of this is, of course, is a really rough generalization.
You'd be much better off buying some sort of a Flight Usable As An Attack. Or some other sort of power to make this affordable.

1150 doesnt seem right. If I remember another thread a few weeks ago that planet pushing Superman from the 70s cartoon would only need 400 STR. Doesnt seem right to need 3 times the strength to throw a guy into orbit than it would to push a planet.:(

A standing throw is very innefficent in the Champions universe. For every doubling of your STR, you can throw an object an extra game inch.
Megascale on throw?

Superleap with lots of multiples, Useable against others?
Movement powers usable against others have to have a lot of magnifying glasses and stop signs though. Putting a Limitation "Only useable for throwing unresisting or greatly weaker characters/objects into orbit."

I always liked the old version of superleap: double your standard leap for 10 points. Extrapolate this to
Superthrow: double the distance you can toss something for +10 points. Now its not so expensive to get to 5700" in a toss.
50 str + 80 points of Superthrow gets you there.
To move the Earth, you need 383 strength, assuming Earth has a specific gravity of 5.5--and yes I worked it out mathematically

A far more efficient method is to buy a whole lot of density, and then jump down on a giant lever.

Which comes pretty damn close if not spot on with what a previous thread worked out.
Didn't we find Superthrow a bit abusive though? :)
Though I think this is where we'd want to just put MegaScale on Strength for throwing.
Though I like the cut of "Ghost who Walks" jib. :D

Now there's a thought! Does MegaScale allow you to get a huge area effect as well? I supposed we would make it a lot cheaper by the lim "only for throwing"
I'm doodling the calculations on the DI and lever thesis.....I think its a lot more expensive, but that's highly dependent on the lever's length.....
