Hello, Steve, hope you're holding up well ;) :

I'm a bit confused about how to run the Minuteman robot written up in Champions Universe. According to the Automaton section of 5E, automatons with simple INT scores can only follow a number of simple commands equal to their INT, and if not commanded will stand inert. My impression was that a more self-directing automaton would require a computer brain of some kind.

The Minuteman is described as having sophisticated programming rivalling a sentient being (and even a Psych Lim), but has no computer brain. Is this an oversight? (There's nothing about it in the Errata.) Or is the Minuteman intended to be run with a human "handler" to give it orders? Or can an Automaton make an INT roll to choose which commands to follow in a changing situation, like a standard non-sentient computer?

Thanks for listening.:)

It ought to have a computer; I just didn't remember to include one. I probably meant to go back and do it and just never got around to it. ;)

I'd suggest just using one of the ones from Champions and making a few appropriate changes. That ought to tide you over.
