View Full Version : What would your character do- "Win a date with your character"

Hermit

I recently posted a hypothetical situation where the Champions put themselves up for a lotto date for Charity.

Let's turn that around some what...

Assuming your character was asked to commit himself/herself to a possible date (after all, the winner would have more than one choice) with another super hero(ine) to help a charity (The example in this case is one that helps the orphans of fallen heroes) , would he/she do it?

Blue
Jan 21st, '04, 12:49 PM
Anthem: Absolutely. She has little money and can't give what she'd like. She'd find this as a great opportunity. Then, since she doesn't date, she'd tie herself up in knots about the date itself.

Uncle Slam: He'd ask, "Couldn't I just give you money instead?" But he could probably be talked into it, given the stakes.

Audra Blue: She's base-bound. But if we say they're auctioning off a visit to the base (a valued prize in this world) she'd agree given that the base sensors (the most expensive part of the base) can nail just about anything down about the subject. She would reserve veto power if the subject proves to be villainous or tries to smuggle in recording device or something. She'd make sure plenty of heroes were on hand...just in case.

Twilight
Jan 21st, '04, 01:28 PM
Twilight is fifteen years old and thus rather young for this sort of thing. He'd give to the charity in question certainly, but being auctioned off for charity is another thing entirely. He's a bit shy you see. :)

POLARIS - would definately encourage the date. He would take the opportunity to get to know the Superheroine. At the same time, he would try and foster a Contact with her, and her team, if possible. He would match whatever funds that the Superheroine bid, donating it to the same charity. If the Superheroine wanted a quiet intimate setting or a media event, he would be more than willing to go along, even if it only involved heavy lifting. Hopefully with an 18 COM and 40 PRE, he would leave a positive impression on her, her teammates and the public.

Dr. Anomaly
Jan 21st, '04, 02:03 PM
Dr. Anomaly: Yes, absolutely, though he could (and would) give more money-wise than the charity event would probably bring in...he'd donate quietly, but still agree to the auction/date simply because it would be good publicity for the cause. As for the date itself...he's aware he would be far from an ideal date (tends to talk in very technical terms or mystic ambiguities) but he'd do his best to live up to his obligation. His alter ego, Dr. Solomon Kinkaid, would be much more suited to handling the social aspects, but (1) it's a date with Dr. Anomaly, and he has a secret identity to protect and (2) Dr. Kinkaid spends a lot of time avoiding "dates" and other potential romantic entanglements, as he's a very wealthy inventor/corporate head who is also still single and therefore seen as a very good catch, even if he is a bit of a flaky New-Ager who likes to sit in an open-sided pyramid during company board meetings to "help focus his inner energies to the best effect."

Starguard -- only with great reluctance and much blushing, and only if she was /sure/ the dream date auction would be handled with the greatest of taste.

(Helene could get kicked out of a 50's Disney movie for being too wholesome...)

Dr. Pain -- "HOO-AH! BRING ON THE BABES!"

Baron von Darien -- *poof* As soon as you blink, he/s /gone/.

Wraith : Smile calmly, say "Yeah, sure, I should spend more time out there anyway.". Then enjoy his night. Possibly set up an 'emergency valve' bidder... but probably not.

Flippant : Get the idea explained to him. Then get the *why* explained to him. Then go along. He's a nice enough fellow, and he isn't lacking in confidence.

Mayday would be happy to and build some sort of tech gift for her date to keep. She's cute but more wholesome than sex kitten unfortunately.

ShadowCross would never put herself up for sale which is too bad cause she's built like a Playboy bunny and likes to wear tight leather outfits and play with whips. On second thought, maybe she would....

Marjorie would be surprised to be asked but allow it. She has an untouchable aristocratic air around her most of the time so would not appeal to most people's tastes however.

LineDrive, yes, so long as he doesnt have to spend any money. He'll pick up a single long stemmed rose on his way there but thats it.

Wraithe, it would have to be cleared by her supervisor but sounds like good publicity for PRIMUS so long as the bidders are screened for possible supervillains or VIPER/DEMON agents. While good looking she has been in the military way too long, and is not drop dead gorgeous. She does have some interesting cleavage that might help....

Sabre could not participate. As an armored hero with a Secret ID and paranoia she'd have to stay in the armor or masked and is over 40 anyway. Not much of a date.

There are several heroes who respond to these What If questions that various of my characters would find interesting and bid on, some for the fun of bidding and some to win no matter what.

Irving would be QUITE sure his teammate Flash is playing another little joke but would probably go along with it. Usually, though, his charitable causes are more along the lines of public readings to promote adult literacy.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

The Secret ID of one of the characters (Billionaire Tech Genius) won the bidding for the character she had a crush on (Martial Brick--my character).

Iron Will is a 13 yo quadroplegic. Anyone who wants to date him is just too weird for him to want to be around.

All other characters, yes.

Adonis - most definitely would participate. Though, quiet frankly he would probably drive a lot of the people off by being a little too much. He would probably do a strip tease on the stage, and generally do his best to get the bidding up as high as he can, in a sort of a male slut kind of way.

Checkmate. "No." No explanation, no excuses, just "No." Pressing the issue gets a thin smile, then "If you can beat me at chess."

(He's essentially unbeatable. Plays Blind chess with International Grand Masters for fun - five at a time - playing black in all games.)

Guardian. "Sure." She doesn't exactly have a secret ID, though she's not well-known publically, but she is a model, so she should bring a fair amount.

Control. "My girlfriend would kill me."

Husky would be all over this like honeybutter on piping hot homemade southern cornbread. Kenneth would over analyze the date and plan an extravagent agenda before the date. After changing into Husky, Husky would ditch the itenerary change into a custom made tuxedo and take the lucky girl out on the town swinging from location to location hoping to see a crime in progress so he can show off and dedicate his victory to her in the media.

Bengal
Jan 22nd, '04, 06:00 AM
There's no way anyone asks for a date with Bengal. Unless it's a trap... but I don't think he'd get that, either. Kind of a moot question.

As for Science Hero Hummingbird, sure, he'd go along. He likes dating, and he's just the sort of "public-eye" superhero that wqould get asked about this sort of thing. Being a lifelong batchelor, most likely nothing would come of it but some good pub, and everyone likes good pub.

Battlestaff
Jan 22nd, '04, 08:45 AM
Battlestaff would agree quite readily. He's an okay looking guy, but ultra wealthy. He'd plan an extravagant evening, with dinner at the best restaurants (and lots of sucking up), carriage rides, and anything else he can think of the make the night special. For the date he'd wear a custom tuxedo and a domino mask to conceal his identity.

Oh, he would also donate to the fund an amount matching the total taken in by the auction.

Scales: Somehow, this doesn't seem the right venue for a 8' mettalic 110 year old widower.
Icepirate: Of course! A quick trip to Paris, check out some museums...
Calico: Would need to be knocked out and stuffed into a bag. And never ever let out.
Spectrum: Probably got tricked into it by Laughton.

With a name like "Battlestaff", I'm sure they'd have a field day...

Blackcat would go along with it, and likely enjoy herself. She would flirt (which would be a fair break from her normal persona) and try and have a nice time, and make sure the person who won the date did so as well; and there would be a likelyhood that her significant other (a reformed villian) would end up being the highest bidder anyway.

Ballistic would do it, but not exactly with the best of attitudes. He's a little too grumpy to really get into it, but he would do it.

T'Shenk Kennet - no one would want a date with a monstrous reptillian horror.

As a shapeshifter (and a notoriously loose person), Adonis quite litterally would be more interested in your personality.

You know, not there's anything wrong with that, it's just that it's not for him...

Adonis, has been female for some of his partners before. He is really just about being in the moment, and enjoying himself.

edit for clairification - Adonis would attempt to morph into a female of T'Shenk's race if it was within his power to do so. His shape shift is limited to still fairly humanoids.

See, the thing is, it's not me you or lemming have to worry about, it's my wife.

Who is red-haired and not so Irish as Rachel but I bet nonetheless can go toe-to-toe with her!

Unfortunately, though, she'd probably just laugh at this exchange and do me no good whatsoever! :p

My namesake would never go for it. He's a bit socially inept and especially shy and awkward towards the opposite sex. I mean the guy lives in a network of caves outside the city(his hideout/headquarters/baseof of operations/more or less home?). He also might beat the living hoo-ha out of the teammate who suggested it.

There is no race. Just him. And it's not really humanoid, except in that he's bipedal and has opposable thumbs.

Opposable thumbs with 4-inch retractable talons.

My condolences to the lady. She sounds nice. Karmic Debt from a past life?

Adrenaline would sign up for the date, but it would be very awkard as he wears a battle helmet at all times in his hero id, so the winning girl would have to stare at herself in his mirrored face shield.

Realm would do it after being tricked into. He would be a bit gruff to start off the date, but would soon turn into a wonderful and charming date.

Hecabus would have started the fake charity to raise money to split with the good cause and then fill his coffers a bit more with the rest.

Argus
Jan 24th, '04, 12:33 PM
The 18 – 30 year old Argus would at a drop of a Hat. No problem, sign me up.

The 30 – 45 year old Argus, the one with a wife and three kids would have to pass and suggest they asked Avian. He would make sure that the charity in question got a very generous grant from his Robotic Company.

The 45 – 60 year old Argus, Widowed grandfather would have to insist that there be a third person chaperone (photographer maybe) around to ensure that nothing could comeback and bite him later.

True, but she is a cold fish and doesn't really LIKE people. In her youth she fell deeply permanently in love, he was killed and life permanently soured for her. She's bitter, arrogant, unfeeling.

She's not a pretty young thing which I think most bidders would prefer. No plastic surgery, she is too thin and bony, has no chest, no grace. The clothes she wears are power suits. They are tailored to fit but don't suit her, they project the image she wants them to and there is no femininity in them or in her actions or reactions.

She's a neutered human being and it would take someone very special to draw her out. Even being on her best behavior she wouldn't be much fun for the winner, I think.

One of the tough things about this challenge is that our source material draws from a variety of literary traditions including both melodrama (which I am actually referring to in both a good way and a bad way) and romance. Unfortunately, not all of the games that our characters may be in would draw from both. Not all of the campaigns our characters are in will necessarily contain all these elements, nor should they. So if romance is perceived as outside of the character’s current conception, it can be hard to imagine them dating, even for chairity.

Quite, frankly, in a comic book, any of the characters that I’ve heard here be described as no on would want to date, probably would get a romantic interest sooner or later in a comic book. It would pretty much inevitable. Ben Grim has had women interested in him. Nightcrawler for all the angst they gave him over his appearance has had multiple suitors. The serpentine version of Jekka in the rebooted Legion had a romance with Cham. I’m pretty sure the list is fairly endless.

Omega: sure, heck probably helped arrange the event in his secret ID (does charity work). Hopefully won't get mind controlled. Would try to make the date enjoyable for the winner, and would enjoy the inevitable "shop talk" also.

Cat-man: would go along with it, though not as enthusiastically. Use the opportunity to network.

Frogman: date a superheroine? Sure! Enjoy the event, try to get bids up, enjoy the date. Write up the event in general later for his newspaper based on "sources".

Lei Kung: Dr. Fei wouldn't go along with it in his normal human form, and Lei Kung would not be conducive to the event - with that many superegos in one room, something would happen and large brawl would likely ensue. "What? You would pay more for the company of Defender than that of LEI KUNG, MINISTER OF STORMS?!?"

Ghost: agree wholeheartedly, try to get #'s for as many of the superheroines as possible. If gets picked at auction, enjoy the date, try to make enjoyable for the winner. Try not to reveal that he's still a teenager.
