You are creatures of Nightmare and horror. Parents tell tales of you to children, to scare them and to keep them in line. You ARE the creatures of myth and legends..... The Dark ones.
Gremlins?..... you. Trolls under bridges...... you! Headless horseman, and the riders of Armageddon.....you.
You are the monsters of myths and legends. The creatures that should be the main baddies in any number of books and movies. The human-hunting soul-stealing fiends of hell.
Unfortunately you are no longer the bad guy ... and probably are not quite happy about it.
Here's the problem. You are fed by the world's belief in you. and who believes in you? That's right. The humans you hunt...or did ... or still do on occasion. Its a harmony of sorts. They feed you and keep you strong and you get to keep hunting and scaring them. Works well for all concerned. They get motivated and devise ways to ensure survival and safety and you get to ... well, BE!
Unfortunately, something has changed. It seems that some creatures have grown beyond the normal limitations of your kind. They no longer need human belief. They want nothing more than to destroy humans and humanity as a whole. This didn't bother you too much, it was the goal of many such as you. Then something happened to make you look again at these new type of monsters. There was this place called Roanoke. A small Island community back around the colonial times. A Nightmare called Croatan, visited this little place. In his wake, not a person was left alive and not one was found. This in itself was not too concerning, but then, something unexpected happened. The creatures that were fed by these people ceased to be. They just disappeared returning to the nothing that they come from.
Than it came to light that Croatan, and others like him, became stronger with each death. That each time they destroyed a center of belief, their power grew.
This is the World you are entering. It looks like ours for the most part. It could be ours, It might be. Everything is darker. There is an underlining dread about everything. Though this is a superhero game it is also a Horror game. You are Dark heros. Nightmares who should be hunting and preying upon the belevers. Unfortunately, nothing is simple.

... There is a war on my friends, and Its not the war you think. No, we are not at war with the waking world. The dreamers and the feeble minded are not our enemies. ..... NO!!..... Humans are not the nemesis. Think my friends, think for yourselves. They are not the enemies, they need us, as we need them. No ... we DO need them, if not for them than we would not be here.
Look at it this way, they feed us. Keep us strong. We would be nothing without their superstitions. Their denied fears.... Think ... we are the things that give them pause. We are the little fears, the sounds behind the door. The monster under the bed. We are the stuff of nightmares and dark fantasy. We are the Bogey men, the barely held in fears of a frightened little child. They write homages to us and make the moving pictures to tell our stories..... Know that they need us as much as we need them. Without us, without the horror that we represent, they would have never evolved. We give them drive and motivation. They give us life and strength..... No, my friends THEY are not our enemies....
Who? You ask. Who IS our enemies..... We are..... What did you expect? Some of us have grown too strong. They have forgotten where they come from. Forgotten that they are not all powerful. Its not totally their fault, they have just been fed to the point of..... well, to the point where they may no Longer need the humans to feed them. They can now feed themselves they are so strong. Too strong, they would destroy the very thing that gave them life. It will be the death of us all ... unless that is, we stop them!
No not here, they are too strong. Out there in the waking world.... No listen ... they are strong, but they are still bound by the same rules. they cannot endure the daylight. They too are bound to the night and dark shadows. Here we cannot hope to defeat them. Out there, things are a little more even. They are strong, but together we are stronger. We cannot allow them to continue as they are. For to do so is to condemn ourselves to nonexsistence..... We would cease to be... goodbye.... just another faded memory to those who once believed.
We MUST act my friends, we cannot allow this to continue when we have the ability to stop it. Remember ... out there they are susceptible to us. Just as we are to them. They think they are above us and the mortals. We must remind them, show them, that they are not omnipotent. They are not more than they were..... We must show them ... and if they refuse to see? Than we must stop them... Anyway possible. Our very lives depend on this ... as does those in the waking world...
So now to save yourself and humanity, you must find these creatures and stop them..... At any cost!
Yep, thats it. Sounds easy dosent it? guess again. While you hunt these other Nightmares, who is contributing to your belief? What happens if someone sees you fighting these others and your myth changes because of it? What would it be like to be a creautue of horror and fear when,with the setting of the next days sun, you are now a creature of light? Dosent sound too bad? Just remember The light the belivers talk about is the very light that hurts you. But remember without you stopping these others, the world will cease to be.
