I purchased the Windows Executable but would like to be able to run this on my linux box as I make the transition. I've tried executing the jar file directly, but it just throws an exception.

Are the executables for linux available anywhere?

Well, since you purchased the Windows-only version, you're going to need to talk to Ben to find out what your options are. You cannot use the download that you have to install onto a Linux box. Hence the phrase "Windows-only"

The CD has all three of the currently available installers on it.

Fair enough. However, the main reason I chose the windows version was, aside from windows compatibility, that I could download it. I didn't want to wait for my CD to show up. Maybe an optional installer kit can be posted for $5, since that is the price difference. I would certainly pay that.

The vast majority of the download is the installer and the JVM, which is platform-dependent. HD itself is only about 2.5MB. The code is the same on all platforms.

The reason that HG posted downloadable installers is that most people will only be running on one platform. It is stated very clearly that the various downloads are specific to a given platform.
