I've downloaded the latest update.jar to my Program Files\HeroDesigner directory but HD version is still 1.0. Am I missing a step?

More than likely you're saving it as "update.jar.zip" -- It's a WinZip thing....WinZip likes to think that everything belongs to it and slaps a ".zip" extension onto the jar file. Don't let it.

If you've done this, just rename the file, removing the .zip extension.

The update file does not have .zip extension. Thanks for the quick reply though.

Please make sure of that....it's likely that your system is set to hide the extensions, in which case, the file will appear as "update.jar". In this case, there will be another file called simply "update", which is the actual update file (the program installs with a file called "update.jar" which you overwrite during the update process).

I made sure the "Hide file extensions for known file types" was off. Explorer identifies it as a JAR File. I even looked at it using MS-DOS prompt.

It's in the same directory as HeroDesigner.exe and Hero Designer.jar.

Then you didn't download the update.

To be, perhaps, a little clearer:

The update process is rather simple. The file "update.jar" contains all updated classes since v1.0

If you're still showing v1.0, then you have not replaced the file update.jar.

Normally, this is due to the file being named "update.jar.zip" during download, which does not replace the existing update.jar and is not recognized by HD.

Occasionally it's because people make the process more difficult than it needs to be and try to "unzip" the update file.

And sometimes it's because people don't put the update.jar file into their install directory, once again, failing to replace the existing update.jar.

I had originally downloaded the file through Netscape and it didn't have zip extension. Your reply prompted me to try IE and the zip extension was added. Removed the extension, restarted HD and it now shows as v 1.22. Thanks for your help.
