View Full Version : How To Switch T-Port/X-tra D Destination?

Any ideas on how to change the intended destination of a Teleport or Extradimensional Movement?
This is for a supermage campaign, which will involve lots of dimension-hopping, so I'd like to have a spell that could make an attempted escape go awry. And I'd like to give the PCs the chance to use it too, so it can't be just by GM fiat.
I'd thought a triggered, UVO Extradimensional Movement might work -- but the defense for such would ordinarily be having X-tra D Movement anyway, right? That sort of negates the whole point. Maybe make it NND?
Any other suggestions?

Defense is 'Beating the opposing mage on a contest of Magic skill rolls?'
That way, when a mage tries to hijack the t-port of another mage, it turns into an instant wizard's duel of knowledge and power.

In your campaign, do mages have established dimensional travel routes? If so, a contest of wills would probably work when the target enters the route. If not, you might consider requiring a Mind Scan or Clairsentience lock-on to see where they start their travel from and then snatch them to the new location.

Hmm... Re-reading "Usable As Attack" reveals that my brain may be clogged with stuff from 4th ed. I'd thought that if you have Teleport, you can't get tagged by Teleport UVO.
Reading more, though, I think I might just go with Chuckg's dueling Magic skills idea. It'll give another reason for supermages to pick up Analyze: Magic, too (bonuses on the opposed skill roll).
And my campaign is your typical supermage stuff. Muck like Dr. Strange or Dr. Fate, the supermages just open up gates and portals at a moment's notice. So while there are established dimensions, there is no need for travel routes (for the supermages, at least).

With NND you still have to specify a defense.
The defense isn't just having the Power. You have to be actively using the Power to resist.

Mind Control and Mental Illusions could work. You could also try a dispel teleport with a teleport used as an attack linked to it.
