View Full Version : Brick Missile Reflection?

Steve,

I'm building a brick character, and as one of her "brick tricks" I want her to be able to catch large items thrown at her, and throw them back at the originating character (probably another brick, or high-level telekinetic).

The item would have to be large (at least the size of a big floor safe) in order to be caught, so bullets, energy blasts, and the like could not be reflected. Also, I thought to properly simulate force, the missile could only be deflected if the thrower's STR (either real or TK) was less than or equal to the reflecting brick's strength.

How much of a limitation would you give for Missile Reflection - Large Items Only, Attacker's STR must be less than or equal to PC's?

Thanks in advance!

John

Since this isn't really a rules question, I've moved it to "HERO System Discussion," so Herodom Assembled can offer its collective wisdom.

What do you think, Herodom Assembled?

Personally, I'd probably give it about a -1, but maybe less if there are lots of "bricks" in the campaign to toss around heavy objects.

In a normal Superhero game, most of the ranged attacks will probably be Energy blasts... made of energy. W/ guns and other small projectiles thrown in the mix. Since it has to be large, most villain's foci (boomerangs, shields, ping-pong gun of doom, etc) will be unaffected. I'd give it a -1. However, if your GM doesn't plan on using rules for throwing big items, it may justify up to a -3 (using the previous -1 and the big -2 uncontrolled as my math basis) b/c he may, or may not ever decide to use something you can affect. I'd ask my GM his feeling on his bricks tossing around an object.

I'd give it a -2 limitation. It has to be large, but not so large that it becomes area effect. Area effects can't be deflected. This limits the number of possible objects considerably.

Hmm, this brings up another point to this power. The special effects of the attack should be brought into the thought whether it could be deflected or not. If someone throws a hex sized boulder, that should be feasibly reflected by the power. I would probably require a +1/4 advantage since it's advantageous enough, but not a big deal.
And then I'd go ahead and give the person -1, but could be talken into a -2. Depends on how strong the character is compared to the campaign. In my campaign if he had a 60 STR, then it would be -2, if 80 STR, then -1 most likely.
