View Full Version : Custom Status? Custom User Text?

How do I change the "Status" on my posts? I resent being labelled an "Incompetent Normal." I assume that's what the "Custom Status" refers to. I read the FAQ, and it says to enter text into the "Custom User Text" field in my profile, but there does not appear to be any such field. At least there isn't one with that name. I've tried changing the Occupation, Interests, and other fields but none appears to correspond to "Custom User Text." Why is that?
I am guessing that this wouldn't have been necessary if I'd been allowed to keep the same registration I had on the old boards. But it wouldn't let me because my name is too long. I had to delete the space between my first and last names in order to register.
And I've looked all around these threads for the answer to this question, but I haven't found it yet.

It seems that for some reason, some people don't see the Custom User Text field. I don't know what causes it, but you're not the first person to report this phenomenon. Maybe Ben (or Dan) have some ideas.

This is purely an uneducated theory on my part...
Seeing as I still see a lot of "Incompetent Normals" out there, despite the fact that the Custom User Status feature is becoming more well known, it may very well be that the ability to assign a Custom User Status isn't awarded until you achieve the standard status just after Incompetent Normal (Competent Normal?). I know I was that far whenever I assigned my Custom User Status.
Just a thought.

I saw the field from my very first post. So if there's a configuration issue, it's probably not based on post count.
It's the last item in the second set of entries under 'Edit Profile'. If you're in the 'Additional Information' section you're too far down. Look up just above the 'Additional Information' bar; it's the last item under 'Optional Information'.

Well, It's there now! It was not there before. Maybe 10 posts is the threshhold. Maybe not from some other comments I've read. Who knows? Oh well. We need a  smiley.
I'll add an avatar when I get a round tuit. All the ones I have now are square.

Phil, I've been trying to figure this out in response to other people with the same problem, and had a tentative theory you could help me with: Between the time the Custom Text field wasn't appearing for you and when it was, did you log out of the Hero boards and then log in again? Maybe clear out you old Temp Internet files and cookies?

Just thought I would add a little data to this experiment. I checked the profile editing page when I had 9 posts, and I could not edit the custom text. I then made my 10th post, went to the profile page, and saw that the option was available. So, for me at least, there was simply a 10 post threshold, like Phil said.

Yet Dust Raven, who earlier inquired about this problem, has over 50 posts now, and still can't bring up the Custom User Text field. Hence the dilemma.

I'm wondering if it's based on time, rather than posts. Maybe you've got to be here two weeks before you can modify (or somesuch).

Let me see if I can add to your data, Lord Liaden. This is my first post (been lurking for years). Before this I cleared out my temp internet files and cookies, and checked my profile. No custom text field. I'll keep checking, before and after I log in and out, refresh the profile page, clear my caches, for the field to appear. I'll let you know when and if I ever see it.
In case it's a time thing, I'll try to keep track of that, too.
