Has anyone done anything with the David Brin Startide/Uplift Universe?

Other than curse at it over the quality of the last book or two? :)

Heaven's Reach in particular, I believe, was the one that made me no longer care about the "uplift mystery". Did not like it one bit.

The only Uplift book I've read was Sundiver, which I thought was excellent. Are there any others in the series which you would reocmmend?

For myself, I highly recommend Startide Rising and Uplift War, both excellent books. The next trilogy (actually, now being billed as books 4-6 of The Uplift Series) starts out good but IMO sucks big time at the end. Thus, the above two books will ask some questions and start some long-term plotlines that may force you to read the other books; but you were warned. :)

I picked this one up. I have to admit, it definitely removed some of the alienness of the alien races for me. I like it when the author tries to remove aliens from the group of easily identified stereotypes; this book, in describing them and, even worse, showing you line drawings, puts the aliens right back into the stereotypes again.

Read them a loved them. GURPS did an Uplift sourcebook that I have found easy to adapt/convert to HERO. The best part is a play-by-play process to uplift a race... very nicely done.
