View Full Version : Question about "The Mystic World"

I'm curious if The Mystic World will include common spells of the Champions world (e.g., something like the Eleven Lights of Luathon and things like this). Any more detail on what this supplement will include would be awesome (other than what's listed in the product description). :) I'm looking forward to this supplement.

I too am very much looking forward to this book. For me, TMW is one of the three highlight of the 2004 product schedule (the other two being Galactic Champions and Vibora Bay).

Same here! I'm just as interested in those as well. I'm pretty excited about this year.

Dean just finished up TMW, in fact. It'll be a while before I get to it, though; too many other books come first in the editing queue. ;)

Yes, it will include common supermagic spells, such as the Eleven Lights of Luathon, as well as renowned supermagic items and what-all. By and large the book is, as the title indicates, a pretty thorough review of the mystic community in the Champions Universe. It's got a lot of new character writeups (such as the oft-requested Tyrannon), including some groups of villains (a revised Devil's Advocates, the Vandaleurs and Sylvestris, etc.), information about mystic organizations, and on and on. It has comparatively little info about things we'll be covering elsewhere (such as DEMON and Vibora Bay), for obvious reasons. Lastly, it's got a complete review of the Multiverse of the Hero Universe -- all that cool stuff from USM, but revised, rewritten, and improved.

In fact, Dean got so into the creation of cool mystic heroes and villains that he went way over on word count in places. I may have to trim bits of it and save them for DEMON or VB, but right now I'm thinking I can crowbar it all in somehow. ;)

I'm really looking forward to delving into this one, since the glimpses Dean's giving me during the writing process have been tantalizing, and his writing's normally a great read. Unfortunately I have to wait until TA, TUB, GC, and FHB are off my plate. ;)

Dean Shomshak going overboard on word count? Heavens, how unprecedented. ;)

Seriously, I'm a fan of Mr. Shomshak's writing, and of the supermagic sub-genre, so I'm psyched about this book. The cosmology of the .pdf Ultimate Super Mage was unique and fascinating, and I'm glad to see that it'll be disseminated to a wider audience.

One more minor question: will the "cool mystic heroes and villains" include some of the mystics from around the world mentioned in Champions Universe?

I'm just hoping there is a few pages on making super-mages as there was in Mystic Masters, or USM. I ESPESIALY WANT TO SEE:

Comments about how VarLim is a wonderful way to represent a character who has a focus that saves them end on spell casting (x2 END or OIF...See USM) and how OIHID makes PERFECT sense for a condiotion of VarLim...Ohh who am I kidding I want to see a one page right up on Variable Limitations

Awesome, Steve! Thanks very much. *does the Dance of Joy*

As an aside, the Mystic Masters supplement kicked all kinds of butt. It really captured the feel of comic-book magic IMO.

I believe what you're wanting to see will be covered in The Ultimate Mystic coming shortly after The Mystic World.

I also would like to chime in to say that I am also eagerly anticipating Mystic World, The USM, and Vibora Bay. Super-mages have always been among my favorite character archetypes.

Also, I really (no, I mean I really) enjoyed the USM pdf, and was one of the few pdfs that I printed out and put into a binder, it was that good. I can't wait to finally see it in actual print.

Just to be clear, Thomas -- you're not going to see USM in print.

By and large, the contents of USM have gotten divided up into TMW and Ult. Mystic -- but some parts have been left out as not appropriate or useful. Even the parts that are included have been rewritten by Dean to be better (since all authors learn more, the more they write), and of course to update it to 5E.

So the two books together will be even better than USM. ;)

:o

I knew that, yet I don't know why my brain didn't engage when I wrote that. Apparently, I had some kind of brain miasma, which explains the foul smell that permeated the air when I posted. :)

I'll just blame it on my general excitement for this year's schedule. :)

Nah, blame the media. That's all the fashion these days. :)
