TURNING ON A POWER AS AN ABORT

I could not find an answer to this question, so I turn to you all the wise sages...

In last nights game a charater wanted to abort to d-solid...to avoid a grenade tossed at his feet. After reviewing the FAQ and 5th ed book It was ruled a dive-for-cover move...is this the what others would have done?

Any other suggestions?
