Hey gang,

We've just sold out of our 4th printing of FREd. We're expecting to do a 5th of 5th hopefully in April. Until then, FREd will not be available in the Online Store. Distributors and retailers should still have it on their shelves and you can still buy some of the damaged copies that we have here in stock, so there is no need to panic. :)

Maybe you could consider putting the words "Don't Panic" on the cover in large, friendly letters...

Actually, I believe Ben's numbering is one off -- we just sold out of the third printing and are now going back for a fourth. But his warning is an appropriate one. ;)

I'm kinda curious.

How many books are in each print run?

Just wondering how many HEROphiles there are out there and this would give us a ballpark figure.

I'm sorry, but that's confidential business information that we don't release publicly.

That said (as much as you may wish I hadn't -- but be glad I don't live in Edinburgh), What I'm wondering is whether the errata from earlier printings are fixed in later ones. (I know Steve specified the answer somewhere along the way, but I don't remember.)

No, they're not. That's too expensive; it involves paying to print the entire book over again. Since none of the errata are really that significant, that's not money we're willing to spend.

I don't know about printing costs, but in terms of time -- too much. I can think of a zillion better things to add to Tina's and Ben's to-do lists. :)

That Mr. Canyon is perhaps the 2nd most asked question in Christendom! I could tell you but I would have to kill you...:D

p.s. The most asked question in Chistendom is, "Why did the Mullet of power choose Aglar?"

No-one knows for sure, but there as many theories as Aglar has fleas! ;)

For the benefit of anyone who hasn’t heard the etymology of the nickname “FREd” for the HERO System 5th Edition (or FRED or Fred, etc.), here’s the story…

As it became clear that DOJ was actually going to publish this book, a thread sprang up on the message boards at herogames.com concerning what its nickname should be (in the manner that "BBB" became the nickname for the 4th Edition Champions hardcover). Steve Long posted a reply at one point, offering his thoughts and then saying, "Heck, as long as you buy a copy, you can call it "Fred" as far as I'm concerned. :) "

The name stuck.

In an effort to tie the new nickname to the actual product, acronyms were retroactively applied. The two that appear to be the most popular are "Fifth Rules EDition" and "Fifth Revised EDition."

We'll reprint it later this spring, or early this summer, to have stock on hand when Fantasy Hero hits the shelves.
