Hello folks , it's time for the convention report . I missed the opening day on Friday ( it was our regular Friday night game ) . On Saturday , I took the bus to the far end of the city and found the Marpole Curling Club with little difficulty , but found the map instructions terrible and the online Bus route just as bad . I made a few suggestions about giving directions to the Venue which were well recieved by the Vancouver Gaming Guild member running the Convention .

The Venue was small with Gaming tables set up in the Lobby , upstairs Lounge , the Change , and Conference rooms . The Bar was open , serving pop chocolate bars , and chips . A McDonald's( ugh ) was across the parking lot . Everything else you had to travel for .

Saturday for me meant bribing ;) my way into the Block 2 - Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Anita Blake game run by Katheryn in the Womens Change room at 1430hrs . ( any game with Vampires aught to have roses for the ladies ) . Katheryn was a role playing Director( BtVS version of a GM ) and played fast and loose with the rules . The group was fun and everyone got to play there schtick . Three of the player were framiliar with the rules helped out the GM . A lot of in character interaction and some combat . I enjoyed it . The BtVS system uses a mechanic called Fate points that was interesting , but could get abusive in another setting .

Block 3 - Feng Shui by Warren was cancelled when only two players showed up . Argh ... after seeing the various converions and listening to several gamers talk about this game I didn't get a chance to play .

Sunday was much easier to get to the Convention on time .
Block - 1 was Godlike - Donar's Hammer was run by Dennis Detwiller one of the design contributors to the game . It was very cool . Dennis was a good GM and explained the quickly and mechanics well . We were the only group to survive :) and the only group not to lose anybody . Hurrah !!!

Block-2 was Shadowrun - Lions Tigers . and *&^^*#%$ oh Drek ! . The GM was more framiliar with Hack and Slash style groups and ours turned out to be mostly role players and problem solvers . I think the GM needs some more experience outside his usual gaming groups . Good thing there are Gaming Conventions :) .

The Games Table - I managed to sell several GURPS books I decided I did not want anymore . Read once and then left to gather dust . There was a huge amount of WotC books and older D&D editions too , but no HERO books save a forlorn looking copy of C:NM ( mine ) , but it did not sell :( .

WotC sent some gaming stuff to give to GM's and for the raffle . The WizKids minis tournements were well attended and the Galactus vs three 600pt Groups of HEROes was fun to watch .

It was a small Convention ( about 90 people attended ) with a small out of the way venue , but fun . I hated to miss out on Feng Shui and Shadowrun was a bust . Godlike was cool and BtVS lots of fun .

Next VGG Convention in August , is more central , at a larger venue and more RPG's expected inclued a HERO System game I plan to run for it . See some of you then .

Cheers
