I have just recently discovered Champions. Actually all I have read is the Millenium City Sourcebook and I loved it!

My question is, why isn't there a Champions Comic Book? I that Image has a great deal that minimizes the initial investment. I think it is something that could be done as a series of mini-series, similar to Hellboy.

So if it happened, who would everybody like to see writing and drawing?

Personally, I would like to see Mark Waid or Fabian Nicieza writing. As for artist, I think that Tom Grummett or Jerry Ordway.

What do you guys think?

What do you guys think?Back in the eighties there was a Champions comic book. You might find them in the back issue collection of your local comic book store. Many of those characters are not used any more for legal reasons as the game has changed ownership since then. I assume the reason that there isn't a Champions comic book now is that they don't believe that it is worth the time to explore the option or believe they won't make money with it. If they tried to use the Champions team from the Champions Universe Book I doubt it would run long.

Been done-long aGO and far away (during 3rd edition, I think), there was a Champions comic and a Flare comic put put by *dum da dum dum dum!) Hero Comics. Some one on these boards posted a link to a site with the old comics on it and now that you've mentioned this topic, someone will most likely repost that link. By the by, if there were to be a Champions comic, I'd want it written by Aaron Allston or Scott Bennie and drawn by Glenn Johnston (whatever happened to him, BTW?!)

Aaron Alston, Scott Bennie, and Glen Johnston? I 've been reading comics for like 25 years or more and I have never heard of these guys. Can you tell me something they have done?

I don't remember Johnston but I guess he's done some Champions art and I'm probably familiar with it and don't have the name connected to it.

Both Alston & Bennie have contributed a lot of source material to champions. I'll have to look up Johnston.

I picked Johnston because I liked his art and he's worked with both writers in the past- he did the lion's share of art in Strike Force, all the art in Villiany Unbound and some art in other books like the Blood art in Blood and Dr. McQuark's.

Actually, the old Champions comic is coming back under the moniker of League of Champions IIRC ... Look up Heroic Publishing on Google and you can find the page :)
Personally, if they did a new Champions line of comics, I'd rather see a Champions Monthly comic that had a rotating cast. Kinda like the Legends of the DC Universe comic or the short-lived relaunch of Epic Illustrated. This was there could be different art teams and writers working on their strengths and such. I know that if I had to choose some mainstream comic artists, I would look at Grummet, Perez, McDaniels, Kitson, Turner, Booth, and Ramos. For mainstream writers, I'd look at people like Waid, Grayson, Loeb, and Johns. As a special bonus, I'd love to see some stories written by Steve and Darren, as well as a few stories drawn by Storn ;)

The original left a bad taste in my mouth so I'd rather not seen it happen.

I suppose if a Champions comic series were ever to happen, it would have to feature characters from the current CU, especially since they're the ones DOJ has the rights to. I don't think that the current Champions lineup has the pizzaz to carry a comic series, not as they're presently constituted. IMHO they would need to be thought out more as characters rather than illustrative archetypes.

OTOH I'd be willing to put down good money for a well-done Star*Guard series. They have some of the style and class of the late, lamented Green Lantern Corps (especially the Galactic Champions version), with their own distinctive flavor.

I could've sworn that Dennis Loubet did the bulk of the art for Strike Force. IIRC, he was in Allston's gaming group.

Johnston did have a comic book out at one point. I found three issues in a used bookstore. I don't remember the company but it was called Fist of the Shou Lin, it was a martaial arts comic about humanized personifications of various animal Kung Fu styles...Tiger, Dragon, Crane, Bear, Rat, Monkey, Snake...etc. It was very cool and I almost bought them but I was broke at the time....*Sigh* I really wish I had. He also did the art work for the Coreolis Effect and his art was indeed featured in Strikeforce. IIRC Dennis Lubet did the art for Bolo who was his own character.

As mentioned by Enforcer, LOubet did the artwork for his own character and few others, but Johnston did the bulk of the work- most of Strikefore, most of the Shadow Warriors, many of the vilains, etc. What ever happened to him, does anyone (and by that I guess I mean Scott or Aaron or someone else that worked with Glenn) know? :hail:

I picked up the 2nd issue of that from a used bin yeaarrrs ago. Never could find any others though. The story and art both were wonderful. Even though I had missed out on the 1st issue the characters were REAL to me, you wanted to know them and what they were about.
