I've been trying to download the playtest of Millenium City for about a week now. Every time, I download the file, but when I open it I'm told that it's not a valid ZIP file.

Also, each time I went to the HERO games website for the first time today, I received a 500 Servlet Exception error. Reloading the page got me to the HERO website without further difficulties. This happened with three different web browsers (Opera 7, IE 6, Netscape 6.2).

If you are using XP winzip instead of regular Winzip you can experience problems opening the file.

As I said before though, make sure you are right-clicking and doing a Save As. If you just click on the link and try to save it from that link's Save command, it will not open properly after the download is done.

As far as the website goes, I think that has to do with the fact that it is currently bouncing between two servers. Sometimes when I click it on it, it comes up Herogames.com and other times it's coming up herogame.dans.cust,etc.

Actually, I am using XP WinZip...it's the only one I have.

I don't have any experience with XP Winzip, so I don't know if you can tweak something on it or not. However, can you try downloading a free trial version of a different unzipper and see if that works?

You can download the free version of WinZip (which does the same thing as the XP WinZip) from Winzip.com.

http://www.winzip.com/ddchomea.htm

That might fix your problem. It has fixed everyone else's problem who has reported it that I know of.

Well, I could do that, though there's a larger problem if Hero games can't get their ZIP downloads compatible with XP's WinZip.

Actually, its the otherway around IMHO, if XP can't get compatible with everyone else zip files. I know I've haven't had any problems with zip fies from hero on my linux box.

As much as I dislike Microsoft (I use Opera 7 as my main web browser), lack of compatability with Windows XP zip protocol should be a concern for DOJ. It's the system preinstalled on 90%+ of all new computers sold in the US, so it follows that DOJ should work to have their zipped downloads compatible with it.
