Working on a character who was a Detroit firemen during the Battle of Detroit. He realized that a lot of people could have been saved if rescue personnel could have survived in some of the conditions the victims were trapped in (high radiation, intense heat, etc). So he goes to engineering school and comes up with a suit of powered armor (I love Comic Book Science!) that will allow a fireman to rescue someone in virtually any environment. I've been toying with ATLAS (All-Terrain L Armored System) but can't come up with anything for the 'L'. Also, I'm not set on the name and would be open to suggestions. Thanks in advance to the learned panel for the ideas.

Sometimes a cool name and acronym can come up just by putting down what the suit does. I was trying to come up with a cool new name for it but couldn't make it work. Then, I simply wrote down what your suit did and thought it was neat.

BTW, I did a thesaurus look for 'Rescue' and came up with Liberate for an L - so Liberating might work - although to me it sounds more like a power suit that has a little more room in the crotch. ;)

This reminds me of an essay on comics that I wrote a while back called "What's Wrong with Comics These Days." It was an ode to the classic stuff that's been done away with since the narrative deconstructionist movement in the 80s. Acronyms was one of the things no longer used. So I wrote a little dialogue.

"So, I ducked into an alleyway and recited my codeword: QUETZCOATL!"
"QUETZCOATL?"
"Yes. Quantum Universal Energy Transmogrative Zygomorphic Coaxial Omni Anthropomorphic Topographic Laser. It's my secret weapon against crime!"
"So... uh... you hit the thugs... while they're trying to figure out what the acronym means?"
"You just don't get it do you, Doug?"

Oh, and for your missing "L" word, "light" is all I can think of as well. But why are you stuck on "ATLAS"? "ATLAS" suggests strength and endurance, but not necessarily protection. What about making an acronym out of "GUARD" or "PROTECT" or something like that?

Interesting sidebar. Once in high school, when I was about to get into a fight, the other guy, mockingly said, "Any last words?" I said, "I do have a question." He asked what it was and I said, "If blue is actually black, how come frogs swim sideways?" He went "Wha????" and I sucker punched him. Still lost the fight, but it was worth it.
