So, almost two months ago GRG comes out and sez we have no money. No San Angelo, no Sengoku. I'd guess that San Angelo was the best selling GRG book they'd published with Sengoku second. Instead of getting out 2nd edition Sengoku and SA they publish- Zorro, War of the Worlds and some Western Game...yeah, right...AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!! Man...I just gotta rant! :angst:

Say it isn't so Tclynch. I am a big fan of their Sengoku stuff and I have the main book (1st edition), Shiki, Shinobi and Shinobi Ryu. I was hoping for more book about Japan in that time period. It is a terrible thing when a company can't continue especially when they make such cool stuff. But when you have no money, you have no money. I wish the best for Mr. Arsenault and gang.

Actually, I imagine what they published was "what was already in the pipeline and ready to go". After all, virtually anything that you can put on market "right now" is going to make more money for you "right now" than something that may or may not sell better later.

Hopefully, these products will do well enough for them financially to allow them to put out 2nd edition San Angelo some time soon.

And Dragon's Gate, despite having added sales potential by being multistatted lost them a lot of money, as I understand it.

Well, that's not exactly what I said but I won't pick nits.

No San Angelo, no Sengoku.

For the moment. Not necessarily forever.

If you're going to report on news from GRG, you could at least report it accurately. ;)

Here's a link to the open letter to our fans (http://www.goldrushgames.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=384) for folks to read what I posted.

You'd guess wrong.

Instead of getting out 2nd edition Sengoku and SA they publish- Zorro,

Um, what does a book published more than 2 years ago have to do with what we did or did not publish in the last few months?

War of the Worlds

Published last Fall.

and some Western Game

That would be Gunslingers (http://www.goldrushgames.com/gunslingers.html), a genre/campaign book.

So why just rant here? I'm hurt that you didn't also rant in the GRG forums. :(

And Dragon's Gate, despite having added sales potential by being multistatted lost them a lot of money, as I understand it.

We sold less than 300 copies total.. through direct sales and through distribution. So with the production costs (writing, editing, art, layout, printing, etc.), yes, we lost a tremendous amount of money on that book.

Multiply those losses over a handful of books in the last 6 months and you could say that GRG is hurting financially.

I'm working on a few things outside of the pen-and-paper RPG market that (if they pan out) will significantly improve our ability to develop and produce new books. We'll see how things go.

In the meantime, however, I'm not going string anyone along and promise folks the moon if we're not in a position to deliver. And I we are certainly not in the position to develop SACoH 2nd Edition right now, unfortunately.

Well I am glad to see you guys are not disappearing quite yet, and I willing to wait until summer of next year for Sengoku 2nd edition.

I'm sorry to hear about all the problems, RPM. I haven't even had the opportunity to use SA, but I bought the 1.5 release and Dragon's Gate, because I like to support as many HERO System based products as I can.

Yeah I'd seen what you had said on the GRG boards, and mailing lists, but didn't want to spread the message of doom. 300?!?! Ouch. It's sad to think that I personally sold 1% of the sales there in my store (and 3 is a pretty good number for our store, we do some RPGs but not much).

I sit and keep my fingers crossed. I hope things turn around for ya. San Angelo is still the best superhero setting out there. Bar none.

I've copied this here as I feel it needs to be here rather than elsewhere on the boards-

We didn't "do next to nothing" with SACoH. We picked up the line where (the old) Hero Games dropped it... with The Dragon's Gate. We delivered on a promise made several years ago by publishing that book. We even added M&M and Action! stats to the book in an attempt to increase awareness of the SACoH line by introducing it to fans of other systems. Unfortunately, Dragon's Gate didn't sell well.

I don't understand your apparent need to gripe about a product that was published more than two years ago (here and in another thread). The Legacy of Zorro has scant to do with what's happened with GRG in the last 6-12 months.

What it has to do with what has happened over the last 6-12 months is...well, Over the last few years the material GRG HAS released has been of questionable value (come on, a War of the Wolrds rpg???), IMHO. Just having been in the hobby/ industry on Many levels, I believe I have a valid perspective.
I feel GRG waisted some money, over time, on some properties/ books that could have been put to better use. Now, I don't have your #s on the books I would have questioned publishing, but I would be...shocked to hear that say Zorro was a big seller or that WotW made any money. Frankly, I'm stunned to hear Dragon's Gate sold only 300 copies, but I think that may be because of a general peception buy some of the questionable material that came before it.
Hope I haven't offended you. Me, I'd most likely have published a few bombs as well (Game Show the RPG, anyone?) had I been in your shoes. :-)
