Comic Book Legal Defense Fund characters?

So, months ago I used the link in the store to donate to the comic legal defence fund, but never heard anything about getting a character name in the book. Did it happen, or did that idea just kind of fall apart?

I know, I should be happy that I helped a good cause, and I am, but I am a greedy person, and want to see my name or a name I provided in print. :thumbup:

I unfortunately wasn't able to use as many names from the CBLDF program in Galactic Champs as I planned, since it turned out I needed relatively few human names and a lot of alien ones. So I skipped around a bit on the list to take anything that could sort of be alien, and a few people will have to wait to appear in Vibora Bay, where I have many more spaces to fill. dw

I thought there was a box where you could put in the name as it should appear? I remember leaving it blank, and so they used my handle.

No, they used my real name, Zachary Stewart. I know there wasn't a box to put the name in when I did it, I would have used my middle name as well. (I always do).

They used Zornwil - there was a box for a name, but I left it blank, thinking I would just be left out, as I didn't originally intend the donation for the explicit purpose of inclusion, though I also didn't say not to. Now I admit I'm glad I was included.

Anyway, the point is they used my handle instead of my name. Maybe they decide case-by-case?

I'll put a link in NGD since so many people go there. I'll put one in HERO Rules, as well, and between those it should cover most HEROphiles, others can spread the word from there.

Approximately how long is it from the order until the e-mail is sent? I recieved an e-mail confirmation of the two donations but it did not ask for me to send back the names. I don't mind waiting of course, but since I purchased one of the two names as a Christmas present for a friend, I do want to make sure I get to pick them.

Also, do we get any sort of notification about which book our names are put in? I do buy most of the books eventually, but I'd hate missing the ones with our names in them.

When it comes time for your name to be put into a book, Darren or Steve or whoever is writing the book that your name will be in, will email you to find out what the exact name you want is. At that time you'll also be told in which book your name is being used.

I do understand that it is important to be patient and that there are probably many gamers waiting to have their names put into a book. Still I'm starting to get a bit concerned. I placed my initial order back in September. It is now Feburary and I still haven't received an e-mail. Christmas of course has come and gone, but I still would like to give my GM her present one of these days. (And of course see my name in print as well.) Could you give me an approximate time frame?

However, the book I'm working on now (Champions Worldwide) will have a big heaping pile of names needed, and as I get to naming them I'll be checking in with everybody on my list. You might get deluged with that, Darren; I think I am still waiting for my last one to be used yet -- Dr. Anomaly didn't quite make it into the 'end of magic' timeline event -- and I don't think he's been used elsewhere yet. If he has, for gosh sakes let me know so I can buy several copies of the book! :D

I think it was something like a year between the time I placed an order and had my name show up in a book. Maybe more.

For me, it was more about supporting the CBLDF than seeing my name in print so the wait wasn't a concern.

As always, if you'd like to get slotted into something I'm writing -- such as a Dark Champions book or FH setting -- let me know, though with such things there's a greater attendant risk of your being turned into a scumbag in print, or having your name mangled in Fantasy fashion. ;)
