Fear / Insanity

Well , I know that Fantasy Hero is just that , a fantasy but how do you guys out there take care of fear / insanity.

I mean you could let the players roleplay it but in the reral world if you come across a Giant Spider in the woods you (I) would immediately turn into a screaming illogical person trying to run away as far as possible - I wouldn't care if it was guard a box of gold bars or even my missus. In the real world your will cannot always over ride your fear.

I've tended t o use a EGO attack of a simple roll vs stat but should our heroes slowly build up insanity or fear points or earn the the right to be less fear ful after killing 3 giant spiders over several months?

I would just use the presence attack rules, and if any of the PCs fail badly by 30 points or more, then give him a psy limitation "fears giant spiders" starts at moderate and then builds up if he encounters them again (and fails another pre. roll), the PCs could buy off the Disadv(through experience) to reflect toughening of his will, and also purchase resistance against presence attacks.
give the spider +20 Pre (Offensive use only, Only to invoke Fear) plus situational modifiers should make for an interesting roleplaying time.
