One of my players wants to play a Silver Age manhunter/dark detective type who was tops in his day, but killed one of his Rogues, and hung up the cape. Events in the campaign will force him from retirement.
So I'm really trying to capture the Silver Age flavor, and went with kind of an Alex Toth type of look (The player is a huge fan of 60s H-B animation). I'm not sure on the name yet, but got a few good suggestions from Hermit & Lord Liaden (animal) and Kevin Scrivner (supernatural) from another thread.
OK, as an extension of CDF V, I'm taking a poll/suggestions for a name for this Silver Age throwback. His insignia has been modified from the final version in CDF V to make it look more like his hood and it lends itself to a cool 'batarang' style weapon. Thanks in advance!

With those colors, I voted for "Nightshade"
Possible quotes for Nightshade:
"Poison to crime"
"The shadow that never sleeps"
"I am the darkness that serves the light"
and I better stop now, or Darkwing Duck will possess me and take it from there :)

Of the names listed, I like "Nightshade" most. (And Hermit's "Poison to crime" line is cool.) "The Wraith" is good too.
Other possibilities:
Nightfall ( I have a character with this name, and he has a similar tragic past, which the name seems to suit)
Doctor Twilight
Midnight Avenger
For that true Silver Age feel, cheesier names are almost mandatory. The one-word, concept names (like Twilight) weren't as common in the Silver Age: writers seemed to feel the need to tack on "Doctor," "Captain," "Mister," "The Human," or something similar. Even using "The" seems to give it more of a dated sound.

Of the names presented, I agree that "Nightshade" suits the character best as he's now depicted. However, I agree with Uncle Shecky that a compound name is more Silver Age.
I actually like the previous chest design; not only was it more visually interesting, but I thought that it looked distinctly lupine, which would be a good image for a dark crimefighter. With that and the previous point in mind, I was going to suggest "Night Wolf", "Shadow Wolf" or "Ghost Wolf" as possible names.
I might point out that the previous insignia was very close to a "Y" shape, which is actually one of the most aerodynamically stable shapes for a throwing weapon, and can allow such a weapon to return in the manner of a boomerang.
But if you prefer the modified insignia, that is all moot. :(

The Purple Hood
Street Skulker
The Giggling Ghast
Crime Stalker
The Savage Street Stalker
The Purple Specter
Street Specter
The Creeper (yeah, I know it's been done before) but consider the tag line: "There is no den of evil where justice cannot creep!")

The Midnight Avenger: "I am The Midnight Avenger what Avenges at Midnight"
Actually I voted for The Wraith.

I personally like "I am the darkness that serves the light"
Name suggestion somehow incorprated into the final name -- Vamp. The insignia on the chest plate says "vamp" to me. It may be cheesy but that could be to its advantage.

Firstly, add some blue to that purple. Bring it closer to indigo. As it stands, the purple is a little bright for a "midnight avenger" type.
I voted for the Wraith. "Fear the Wrath of the Wraith!"

Well, the Wraith seems to be the easy leader...been toying with a combination of the two...The Nightwraith, but I have the funny feeling that that's already been taken.
Uncle Shecky: Yeah, I was thinking of the Dr. or Captain route as well, but couldn't come up with a good one.
Lord L: Sorry to disappoint. I think I can come up with something for the new logo.
Kevin: I was torn about using Purple in the name, but thought it was a little too SA.
Thirdbase: LOL, can't beat a good Tick reference.
Bazza: Vamp has female connotations IMHO.
Thag13: CDF V is another post: Costume Design Forum V. Acroyear started it so people could help him design costumes. I just ripped off his idea.
Pheemy: Already been tried. Liked this better.

I agree--make the purple more of a midnight blue and you'll really have something.
And here's your name--
Doctor Dark, The Midnight Avenger!
Gives your Silver Age character a little Golden Age flavor--how's that for "iconic?"

I was thinking of Dracula or some other vampire, yeah, point taken. Vamp: sinks his teeth into crime...and criminals" :)
Has anyone suggested "Knightshade" before?

Met with the player this evening and we decided on The Nightwraith...thanks to all for the input.
