Busy starting up a new Champions game, and the titular team is appearing as NPCs. So, I'm making minis. :)

Got two ones converted and painted so far. I have minis for the others, but so far the only ones that look the part are Nighthawk and Sapphire.

Bleah. Close-up photography really brings home the weaknesses in my painting. Missing bits, some chipped areas revealing the colour underneath, and some serious lumpiness going on with Nighthawk. And Sapphire's too dark, colour-wise. Too much dark blue, not enough electric blue. Still, the pic of her on the cover of Champions seems to indicate that she wears dark-ish clothing, and it's mainly her forcefield that glows brightly...

Anyway, both were originally Heroclix minis. Nighthawk began life as the Hobgoblin - I chopped him off his glider, cut off his hand, replacing it with one from Clayface (it was about the right size, and had separatable fingers, allowing me to glue in the bottom bit of Robin's staff). Sapphire was a plain old Rogue, with no fancy conversions, just painting.

All in all, I don't think it's too bad for my first conversion effort. :) They definitely serve well enough in the game.

Anyway - has anyone else made miniatures of the Chamions? Or even just their own characters? Let's see some convert & paint jobs going on here. :bounce:

These are great! You have a real knack for this.

I tried modding some existing figs once. Came out more like cthulhu horrors than heroes when I was done.

Nice work, getting a good shot of a convesion is an ordeal I know.

Proditor, Tom Mc Carthy/Meat Maki, I, and a few others have posted pics.

Prod did Ironclad and Nighthawk and is working on the rest of the Champions, Tom/Meat did Foxbat and a Grond I think, and on the Amateur Champs link below there is a dynamite Grond, an ok Ironclad and another Rogue-Saphire.

Nice work. Given my utter lack of artistic talent I just can't bring myself to maim my Heroclix figures though.

Thanks guys! :) It's always good getting positive comments. I know my stuff is fairly beginner, but I'm still proud of it in that context. ;)

Anyway, one reason I started this thread (aside from showing off my stuff and a blatant plug for Rep), I was also trying to turn this into a thread for other people to show off their minis. Anyone else done miniatures for the Champions? Or even their own superhero characters?

Show us your stuff!

I would LOVE to, however, while a buddy recently gave me a decent digital camera where I can finally take pics of my minis, I still don't have the hardware to transfer those pics to my computer. :(

I need a Compactflash Card reader. *Sigh* I hate being unemployed... can't afford anything!

Is there a photo place near you that can do that stuff? There are a few here that can take flash cards and turn them into pictures, even transfer them to CD as image files. That might be an alternative. Costs money, though. Everything costs money. >.<

Still, when you do get pics, post 'em on here. :) Thread'll remain open. (Or start your own :)

All right guys, I just bought a Compactflash Card reader, so here are a couple of practice shots from my camera's memory. I just snapped these with the flash, so pardon if the light is too bright. I'll take better pictures after I figure out how this camera works. :)

This first one is a generic MA, no name. We used him to represent Fiacho the night I took this pic.

These three are, from left to right, M.O.D. (that stands for Method Of Destruction), Chronamancer and Steel.

Once again, I apologize for the flash.

M.O.D. is a cyborg, light brick with a ray-rifle which was cropped off in this pic.
Chronamancer is a martial artist with temporal powers.
Steel is a brick. I haven't built her yet or played her though. ;)

Darn it, now I have to go take pics of my team(s). :)

I've got some good pics of Sapphire, but I don't know if I can post them (I used her in a Digital Hero article, and I'm not sure if I can/should put those pics up here). I'm working on Grond and a squad of UNTIL agents right now; I'll probably do a squad or two of VIPER goons soon, and I've got a commissioned Harbinger of Justice to get done soon. :)

Ah, here's a few. Some bad guys... I'll try to take some shots of my heroes soon. :D

And just so you know, the shot with the three gals above, that's not a team pic. The minis just happened to be sitting on the shelf right above my computer when I tested out my new camera (well, new to me!). Notice the piled up gold necklace and the dragon pic? Totally random. Not staged at all.

Heh. Turned out ok, even with the too-bright light from the flash.

Yeah, I'm having a heckuva time getting the lighting right. The flash is too bright and with these extreme close-ups it washes out the minis. But if I cover the flash, then the pics come out too dark. What a bother. :straight:

Try putting them against a white background, both beneath and behind them. Lay out a sheet or pillowcase, use some printer paper or comic backing boards, etc. Drag an extra lamp over and try to get more direct light in. Do 'em during the day if you can, and get actual sunlight in.

To actually see the figs, yeah, I think so. Now, I think the darker background is better "mood" for guys like that demon, but to see the fig, details, etc. I think lighter backgrounds work better.

Thank you! I've been doing this for a while. :) To do the lighting, I use 3 100-watt daylight lamps (one on the left, one on the right, and one directly above and kinda behind. No flash, since that makes the figs look washed out.

They're not touched up, except that I went into Photoshop and deleted the backgrounds. I put the figs on a blue background (just a sheet of cloth supported from behind), then I use Photoshop to wipe out the blue. Then I crop 'em to size.

Here's some more. Our current supers team consists of Myrmidon, Celestica, Blur!!!, le Chevalier, and T'ien Lung...

Thanx! :) Yep, River is the water sorceress from Reaper. Tigress is also a Reaper fig. Hardcase and Hummingbird are from i-Kore (now Urban Mammoth)'s VOID line. Hummingbird has some minor conversions -- I removed the guns in her hands, reposed her, and changed the wings around a little bit.

The ones I posted today... Myrmidon is from the Reaper CAV line, major modifications (the legs of one model, the torso from another, the rocket launchers from a third, and the arms are from a GW Terminator). Celestica and Blur are both from i-Kore/Urban Mammoth's VOID line, with some minor conversions. T'ien Lung is a very old Ral Partha vampire figure, and Chevalier is a Reaper swordsister fig with both arms removed and replaced, and a thin-gauge wire whip placed in her right hand.

The UNTIL agents are from some crappy tabletop wargame who's name I've forgotten. The figs are actually really bad, but they look OK with a good paint job. :)

Those pics are looking real good, Mags! The white background helps, and it looks like you're getting used to the focus on your camera. Have you tried using multiple lights -- one on each side of the figure? That way the lighting will be more even, and there'll be less shadow. :)

Wow, wish I could get pictures that clear with my digital. They're always fuzzy that close up, dang autofocus. It's just as well; I don't have any modified ones worth posting.

A few camera tricks worth trying:

Many cameras have a "focus lock" feature. It's activated by pressing the shutter release button half-way and holding it. Even if you move the camera around, the focus stays locked at the same distance. Point the camera at something that's easy to focus on, lock the focus, repoint the camera at the mini, then press the button the rest of the way to get your picture.

There might be a minimum focus distance. If your camera has an optical zoom, try standing a bit further away and zooming. Some cameras have a macro mode, too, made specifically for taking very close photos.

Good question. Two things:

First, I had to keep her attached to the base. I tried to make her look like she's running right off the edge of the base -- the tip of her toe is the only thing touching. If you look closely, you can see a tiny metal pin going from the base to her leg. I drilled a hole in her leg (maybe 1-2 mm deep) and glued the pin into the hole; then I drilled a hole in the base and glued the pin in there.

To keep the base from toppling over, I filled the inside of the base with "brown stuff" epoxy putty, then glued a 1" metal washer to the bottom of the base. So the base is much heavier than the mini, and she doesn't tip over. She's actually very stable. :)

My plans for the full web page treatment fell apart due to me lazing about all day and packing at the last minute for a one week business trip, so all I have is seom group shots for now. But, we have 3 groups. Two from the CU and the PC group from my on going campaign. A big thanks to Redmenace for two superb recipes, one for Scorpia and the other for Sapphire.

Eurostar: Left to Right; Scorpia, Fiacho, Fuermacher (Yes, it's just Human Torch), Durak, Mentalla and Le Sone.

Justice Incorporated: Left to Right; Paragon, Titan, Sabre, Sentinel, Mach, Ultraviolet and Mystic

Heh...I actually keep them on the HC bases since I use mostly square maps and a tape measure. ;) The main advantage to the clunky base is that no fig converted so far has ever required counterweight. With the slottabases, I have a few rounds ones worth at least a nickle since one is crazy glued to the bottom, etc.

Recipes: Short form for now, more when I get back home Friday...

Defender: Reposed SHIELD Mandroid, putty head. Yup, that was it.

Sentinel: Crimson Dynamo (Lower torso/legs), Avalance (Upper Torso), Blizzard (arms). Everything else was Putty, putty, putty. :)

Question answering: Yes, I'm a big V&V fan as my avatar shows. Manta Man is still one of the best heroes in the world to me, though the Jeff Dee art has a lot to do with that. ;)

Here are a few more pics of some really lousy old minis I decided to "Silk purse from a sow's ear". Semi-successfully I think, but I'm biased. Once I have some real time, I'll be updating my page with a ton more pics.

New guys are Banzai, Masterman and Overlord (All by the now defunct Castle Creations) and the team pic is what I came up with for the Corlios Effect. The fire and earth elementals are very old Heritage minis from their superheros and supervillains set, the air emelental is from the DC Outsiders enemies pack by Grenadier and the water elemental is juat a Mage Knight fig.

The first picture is what the figure looked like when I got him (with some notes as to what I was planning to change).
The second is the design of the base (this Harbinger's for display, not for play, so Steve told me to go crazy on the base). :)
The next three are the finished product.

Nice!! I like the diorama base a lot. Cool conversion, I can only assume you dremmeled the purity seals off. If you hand sanded them...well, you are a braver man than I. ;)

Yep, the dremmel is my friend. ;)

Someone asked me in PM how I did the base, so I figured I'd just say it here in case anyone else is interested.

The concrete sidewalk on which Harbinger is standing is 1mm cardstock. I used a circle cutter (you can get them at Michael's) to cut it in the half-circle shape. I used an X-acto knife to cut the edge of the sidewalk to look like it's crumbling. I used a triangular file to cut the "blocks" (the squares in the sidewalk... dunno what they're called), and carved out the cracks with a knife.

I used a bunch of brown stuff modeling epoxy to make the hill. Just built it up slowly. When I was happy with the height, I stuck the sidewalk on it. I cut off a straw from a juice box to make the pipe sticking out into the ditch.

The uneven ground in the ditch is just several layers of tallus glued on top of each other. The grass is static grass. The empty coke cans are itty bitty plastic tubing cut to the right size. The bullet casings on the sidewalk are the same thing, just thinner gauge and cut smaller.

The wanted posters are just pieces of paper cut to size, painted to look dirty, then written on with a teensy pen (.35 mm is the size of the pen, I think). They didn't turn out as well as I hoped; I guess my hand was shaking as I tried to write. :(

The water is superglue. When it dried, I painted it with a glossy sealer. It actually looks pretty good -- very muddy and gross-looking.

The dead guy is from a cheap, crappy wargame (same game as those UNTIL figs I posted earlier). I chopped off his arms, legs, and head, and reglued them to make him look dead. I thought about drilling holes in his torso for the bullet wounds, but decided that would look cheesy. ;)

All made with pieces of styrofoam packing material, cut and sculpted with a hot knife and with little streams (in some kind of shiny blue resin-like substance). Movement was all via tapemeasure.

I need to empty one of my rooms and commit the whole thing to projects like this. Miniatures and Terrain!

I need to empty one of my rooms and commit the whole thing to projects like this. Miniatures and Terrain!

I actually did this once. :D I had the non-hex Geohex terrain, which was ultra cool. We used tape measures to figure out the distances. It was wonderful for running outdoor battles. I also was into making the little buildings, fences, etc. using the Warhammer-style building templates. Trees bushes, the whole schmoo. ;)
Got hard up for money unfortunately and sold it all. Wish I hadn't.

I was sorting some of my miniatures today. Took a quick pic and thought I'd share:

Love your new Grond version! All of the other Gronds I've seen have been based on the Abomination. This new one looks like it was based on one of the Hulk heroclix, yes? What did you use for the head, a Lizardman with horns taken from the Rhino or soemthing?

Any recipe info would be wonderful! (that goes for anyone else who posts some of their work... if at all possible, please share the wealth!).

Thanks, guys. You make me blush!

He is a Heroclix Hulk, as Myrlyn guessed (actually, he's two Hulks -- I got them at "Free Comic Day" a couple of years ago, and they've been sitting in my box ever since).

I cut the arms off one, and the head off the other. I cut big chunks out of headless's shoulders to fit the new arms on, then filled in the gaps with green stuff. I also cut one finger off each hand (Grond's description says he's got only 3 fingers per hand), then filed the hand/wrist down to look right.

Since Hulk was wearing a torn-up shirt, I trimmed all the shirt bits off using a sharp X-acto knife and a very small file. This was the hardest part! (and I still don't think I got it quite right...)

The head came from a Reaper Lizardman Tyrant. I had to cut Hulk's neck down a little to make it fit properly.

The horns are (believe it or not) actually the tips of a couple of toothpicks! I filed the lizardman's head flat in those two places, then glued them on.

The only thing wrong with him is that he doesn't have the big flappy reptilian ears. But other than that, I think he turned out pretty good. Glad y'all like him. :D

I got three of those promo Hulks, and gave one away to a buddy. Still have the other two, but I haven't considered cutting them up.

Introducing: Zadyn (from Galactic Champions)! I was thinking of entering him into Proditor's modding contest, but I liked the Monster better.

He has the body of a VOID Black Legionaire, the arms of a VOID Sytha Tactical Androsynth, and the head of an old Ral Partha Tengu. The shoulder wings/spikes are cut down from a GW Swooping Hawk's wings. The lighting on the pictures don't really show the distinction betwen the red parts of his armor and the gold, but if you look close you can see them.

There's more to come, when I have some time to paint. Hope you like him! =:)

Thanks guys! Whoops, sorry Myrlyn. Bluejay's recipe:

She has the body of a Heroclix Queen Bee.
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=4869

The head is Superfigs Flyer 3 (Blackbird).
www.superfigs.net/catalog.html

The wings are from a VOID Archangel.
http://www.i-kore.com/um/html/v_mingal_va.htm

I drilled a hole in the bottom of the Archangel wings and attached the support wire there (the wings alone weigh about 4x as much as the plastic Queen Bee fig, so there wasn't much point in supporting her w/o supporting the wings). I had to attach 3 (three!!!) steel washers to the base to support her weight (I dunno if you can tell from the picture, she's mostly hovering over/off the backside of the base, which makes her really unbalanced -- but with the washers, she's quite stable). Bluejay herself is pretty simple, but you need the support wire. :D

You can't really see in the picture, but there's a jay-like crest on her head, which is just putty.

The base: I blended a few shades of pale blue, then added gray/white blotches for clouds. I topped it with some cotton to make it look wispy, and coiled some more cotton up the support wire (both to disguise it and to give her more of an action pose.

Though her description says her wings are all blue, I decided to go with blue and white because the pictures of bluejays I found on the web indicate that many of them have white pinfeathers. Plus, it made her look more colorful. :)

And here I thought *I* was devoting too much time to this hobby, with my regular miniature painting and my cardboard house building :)

Of course this week we changed up games again (so we did not get to use the infamous Castle Velcro I mentioned in another thread), but a player showed up with a house that he had cast in plaster! It had a removeable roof, square grid inside, a removeable second floor (so you could see the first floor) and a tiny little LED light attached to the underside of the second floor so when everything was replaced and the light was turned on, an eerie blue-white glow emanated from the inside windows.

Now the whole thing was only about 1' x 1', by 8", but still what a helluva lot of work!

And you guys are no better! You and yer modified, customezed miniatures. Yer making' me look bad!

I tried that custom mini thing before. The effects were terrifying, but not in a good way. Realizing I'd ruined the cheezy heroclix that I'd started with (One of the Solomon Grundy miniatures that showed up in great numbers in the packs), I wound up just slapping "green stuff" on it and using a comb-like effect to give it a fur texture. In the end he wound up looking like some freakish 3-horned sasquatch.

Apparently I'm better "free form" at this than when I work toward a specific goal, because they will NEVER turn out how I intended.

Just a quick FYI guys, I was able to get confirmation on the SuperFigs blow out. John Lauck from discounthobby.com sent me the following e-mail today in response to an inquiry I made:

Yes, we will begin the sale on November 5th and eliminate all remaining stock of Superfigs. Cleaning out inventory due to an increase in our manufacturing output. I love this line of figures, but sales have been slow. Watch DiscountHobby.com on November 5th and the products will have a new link to them in the new releases column on that date.

In addition, I found this info on their website (took a little hunting):

Liquidation Items
Starting in November we will be eliminating the following products from our site.
NOVEMBER 5th SUPERFIGS liquidation at 40% off
NOVEMBER 12th CONFRONTATION at 30% off
NOVEMBER 19th Misc Items 40% off

These companies have been performing poorly for us and we are removing them from inventory to make space for other products.

BIG giveaways month of November
When you spend $30.00 or more during the month of November you will receive $20 worth of BOB OLLEY Mega Miniatures figures. That is NOT a typo, you are reading it correctly. $20 worth of FREE figures for a $30 purchase of ANYTHING on the site. The 4 giveaway figures Minotaur, Titan Orc, Dwarf & Ghoul worth $20 will be displayed on the site November 1st 2004. There will be NO GODS figure in the month of November. Expect to see Blackbeard GOD-K on December 1st.

My local hobby store has some superfigs but they never get NEW ones. If I buy some, they reorder the ones that were bought and never get anything new. They've done this for over a year, so I have to go to online sites to get anything newer than 14-16 Months ago.

Click User CP, then "Attachments" in the lower left column. At the top of the screen should be how much space you've used. (I have 237 attachments and have used less than 11mb, so I'm not sure what the problem would be in your case).

Definetly like. Did you coat the mini in sand for the texture?

Specifically: I cut off the pointy elf eartips, topknot, blades and pommels; carved out the crotch, brushed on glue, rolled her in sand and primed her in white.

It was at that point I realized she still looked male from several feet away (like on a gaming mat) so I added more 'breast' to her and re-applied sand. Scraped sand away from areas where I knew her costume would be; primed fig in white, painted red, drybrushed black (to represent the cooling lava) and then painted the costume in the group colors of blue and white and painted the eyes yellow to represent the heat within. Sprayed flat coat twice, touched up the eyes with pot gloss. Standard for bases (back then): Painted the base green. Glued on flock, inked for shadow and drybrushed the 'grass'.

It was a fun project. I had it all planned ahead of time (except for the slight setback with her chest) in my head and I still feel it came out great. It made playing her all the more fun having this minature of Magmarock. :)

She's really good, Blue. I'd try to put some separation between the shorts and her legs, though. I suggest either a gray line to define the edge, which you can then make extremely thin again by painting on more white over the gray, or by making her skin a darker shade of tan. Right now, she kinda looks nekkid from the hips down and that she seriously needs to hit a tanning booth, you know? ;)

I really like the mask.

Thank you Mags and RM.

Any nakedness is more a photographic issue. It doesn't look that way at all in person.

I planned to do one of the earlier costumes, but with most I couldn't figure out a way to make the psuedo-coat thing she wears. At least not do it well.

LOL! I only painted it, I didn't sculpt it! Actually, this fig came from a fantasy (D&D like) slave set that was rated for ages 17+ because all the women were naked. In addition to the human females, this are two dwarven wenches, two halflings, a catlady (or tiefling, maybe), and a mutant gal with four breasts (haven't figured out what to do with that one).

Anyway, all I had to do to prep this fig was file away the nipples and, erm, the "bushy' crotch area. :nonp:

I rest my wrist on the edge of the table when doing the finer work, but seriously, eyes aren't all that tough. What you see around the eyes on my figs is merely illusion. I really didn't paint a thin line. I did paint a thick line which defined the edges of the eyes (top and bottom) and then after that dried, I repeated the process with the flesh color which only left a thin line visible.

It's the same process I described for leaving a thin line along the border of Teen Anthem's shorts, you know, for definition. ;)

OK, I just finished her. She's got nothing to do with Champions per se, but I think she's my finest work yet. The face is beautiful, and the skin tones are just perfect (it helps that the miniature is superlative, too).

She's Elise the Witch (by Reaper) with a Ral Partha Crucible Pumpkin Head Scarecrow coming up from the ground behind her. A couple of the pumpkins are Pumpkin Heads with their heads cut off; the rest are putty. The vines are floral wire; the leaves are bits of paper cut out with a hole puncher.

In City of Heroes, I've got Teen Anthem, the online version of my character Anthem. Eventually you can buy multiple versions of your uniforms. Well, I liked this one enough that I'll likely use it in my campaign when we reconvene.

Blue, she looks great, but can I give you a piece of friendly painting advice? :) It looks to me like your paints are too thick. Add about 3-6 drops* of clean water (from an eyedropper if you've got one) to your paints, especially the flesh color you're using. This will thin them out a little and make them easier to work with; the final result won't look as lumpy. If it's still too thick, add a couple of more drops at a time, stir/shake the paint really well, and test it again. You won't regret it!

Bill.
* If you're using 1/2 oz paint bottles... if your bottles are larger, you may need more water. :)

Thanks, RM. Looking at the picture, I actually don't like the face that much. It's too... mannish? Angular? Old-looking? Not sure... I think it has something to do with the mod, when I carved her "crown" off. I guess I got spoiled working on that beautiful Werner Klocke witch figure and her incredible face.

It's Havok (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figuregallery.asp?unitid=6267) from Mutant Mayhem. I shortened the length of the shoulderpads by trimming and filing, then I took tiny rolls of greenstuff and inserted it into the weird raised "ribbed" areas on his head to make the half-helmet effect. I used a little bit of Green Putty filler to fill out the eyes so I could paint goggles on. The rest is the paint job.

My attempt at the point tops of the boots and gloves (as shown in the book) weren't very good and I wound up peeling them off and repainting them.

Just thought I'd post this because it's cool (not because it's finished).

I decided my minis probably would look a little less lumpy if I followed Myrlyn's advice and stripped the paint off with acetone. So the first one I tried this with was Wonderman from the Mutan Mayhem set.

Hiya Blue, glad to see you're giving the stripping of the paint a try! I was initially surprised by this fact you've uncovered as well until I thought about it a little more. If memory serves me, there is an LE version of Wonderman that shows him in his ionic energy form. I'm sure their manufacturing process is similar for each version, and one they cover in paint, and the other they probably just glaze purple. What do you think?

Maybe you could do something similar? I've gotten a couple of figures I might not use as well. If you've got extras, let me know, and maybe we can work out some trades for other figures you might need.

On a different note, I've got a new favorite figure for a base for different heros. The Skrull Commando (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/images/figures/Rotating/HMCT/HMCT_016_rot03.jpg). Once you clip off the head, you've got a really easy base figure for making all sorts of new heroes.

Part of the fun of this has been figuring out what to do with the duplicates. So I've been doing all kinds of funny things with the extras. But we shall see.

My table in the kitchen looks like a vivesection lab for tiny little people. Body parts everywhere! (Muahahahahaha!)

Frankly I'm not sure which are the uniques. I've been looking at them all as parts, since I don't plan to resell them and I don't play the clix game itself.

Uniques have a Silver ring, and LEs (also in the set) have a Gold ring.

DO NOT DESTROY THESE! You can usually trade them in for an unopened booster 1 for 1. (minimum!)

If you are only getting 1 booster you need to take a haggling class!! You should at least be getting 2 boosters. More, depending on the fig.

I admit I have LOTS of clix. If you guys are looking to swap some out, let me know what you are looking for. I've got a spreadsheet! :)

Well, some may have been sacrificed. Frankly, I wasn't checking and couldn't tell ya.

What I can say is that among the figs I have laying around right now that have a silver ring are Loki (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figuregallery.asp?unitid=6277), Donald Pierce (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figuregallery.asp?unitid=6253), Dormammu (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figuregallery.asp?unitid=4536), Batman (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=2438), and Amazo (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/figuregallery.asp?unitid=3399). But fret not, frankly they are too cool to cut up. Even Dormamu with his Oogie Boogie (http://glitch.illogic.net/pics/nbx/nbx_31.jpg) facial expression. The metallic green paint on Amazo is particularly cool.

Though it's hard not to use Donald Pierce for "Maestro" since aside from the color scheme the outfit is perfect.

Thanx guys. Prod -- I actually painted all those guys about... 2-3 years ago. I use them whenever I run a Con game.

(Yes, that's right, the Colorado Crusade are fully play-tested!) ;)

Secret recipes:
Blizzard is a VOID militia fig with another militia fig's arm.
Charcoal is a VOID Archangel.
Justice is a VOID figure also... can't remember which one. Those guys with the big tridents (which I carefully removed from his outstretched hand).
Lionheart is a Reaper Black Templar with his sword removed and replaced with the quarterstaff (just a length of brass tubing) and his other arm replaced with some old generic knight figure I had laying around.
Loup is a Reaper werewolf.
Phantom is a Reaper vampiress with a different Reaper vampiress' candlestick-holding hand.

BTW, I got some Heroclix as an early Christmas present. Anyone interested in trading for a rare, silver-edged Witchblade? I've got no use for her, but it looks like she sells for $12-14 on E-bay...

Okay, let's see if I can get this to work.

This is a picture of one of my players former shapeshifted form. I painted it from a Togashi Hoshi Clan War figure.

The player has since discarded this form due to a Radiation Accident and assumed a much more humanoid dragon form.

red_eagle123
Dec 26th, '04, 07:54 AM
Here is the now dragon form of the player mentioned in my previous post.

This is a reaper figure that I did a little bit of modification to the back. The original figure had a slot where it's wings were supposed to go, so I had to green stuff that. The finish coat for some reason came out with a hazy look, so I had to discard that can.

red_eagle123
Dec 26th, '04, 07:56 AM
And finally, here is the Human form of the Chan-Li, Mr. Martial artist turns into Dragon.

The figure is a Reaper Monk.

red_eagle123
Dec 26th, '04, 07:58 AM
This is another player character named Shockwave. The concept is that of a walking humanoid energy field.

The figure is a painted Superfigs flyer.

red_eagle123
Dec 26th, '04, 08:00 AM
This character is Celteen. She's the ancestor of one of the Fae, and has control over the four elements. This includes the ability to alter her own form into that of the four elements.

The figure it a Superfigs Chakti figure, at the time I painted it her character concept was still a little in flux, so I wasn't sure how to paint it.

red_eagle123
Dec 26th, '04, 08:03 AM
This character is Glitter (Or Glitterman). I swear I did not come up with that name! The concept is a dock worker infused with nanites that grant him cyperpath powers, as well as limited ability to alter his body (Create finger claws, steel like skin etc). The player only gave me the 'I want to be like wolverine, or colossus' spiel with no other details. So I decided to meld them together.

The figure is a Superfigs brawler, the hardest part was creating the metallic sheen for his skin. It's hard to tell here, but the skin tone is flesh, with a metallic sheen to it.

red_eagle123
Dec 26th, '04, 08:05 AM
This is Rainbow. She's a multi-billionare business owner who part times as a eco-terrorist before being found by the FBI and joining the side of good alongside the other heroes. As of yet the other heroes don't know her background. Her powers are that she's a geokinetic, able to control earth.

This figure is my first kitbash ever. It's a Heroclix Luthor Bodyguard upper torso, with the hands of a Heroclix Blizzard, on the torso of a Superfigs flyer.

red_eagle123
Dec 26th, '04, 08:09 AM
This is the last figure for the players that I personally paint (and thus have immediately available). This is Red Bear, aka Bjorn. He was found on a backwards time jaunt to ancient sweden. He's basically a brick with a magic sword and magically enchanted chainmail armor.

The figure is a modified Superfigs Perun figure. The figure originally came with a giant hammer which I snipped off and used greenstuff to form into a sword. I also covered the upper torso in green stuff to make a chainmail effect. I'm not really happy with either effect, but since it was my first time using the green stuff for this kind of effect I can't complain. The figure was coated at the same time as Chan-Li's dragon form (above) and thus has that same milky white haze effect in the glaze.

Enjoy!

PS: I noticed something while painting him... I don't know who does the models for HeroClix, but the guy's got a serious lip fetish. I noticed it while painting my Cheshire Cat (using a Hydra guy's head), but it didn't occur to me that this might be endemic. Look at the size of Cap's lips! It's freaky! He's got that bee-stung, Alicia Silverstone look goin' on. Wierd.

Very cool Blue! I'm actually going to be running the same story arc for my group. If you would like to collaborate on the character updates for fifth edition, etc. let me know! My own thought for the Claw was to actually make some minor alterations to the character concept, and use the Crimson Cowl (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/figuregallery.asp?unitid=5507) figure from Marvel Heroclix:

So for your campaign the Crimson Cowl traded X and Y chromosones? That's cool. I've made too many female characters already to do that in my campaign.

I did a strict update to 5th on my lunch hour over a couple days, with no serious tweaking. I intend to give them a more serious going over when I've got the time. Right now I'm fooling with the minis. Sure, that's less important than a sound character, but it's where my head is right now :)

Blue
Jan 23rd, '05, 06:05 PM
Rather than do a strict recreation of 4th edition Brother Basilisk (from the Great Supervillain Contest), I looked at all the available minis I had and decided I wanted him to probably look more like a monk. Couldn't quite reach that, but this does look interesting. It's based on a MageKnight Grave Robber (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/images/figures/Rotating/MKRE/MKRE_032.gif).

Thanks. Funny you should mention that. This is paintjob #3 :)

The Great Superviallain Contest makes no mention of colors on any of the characters. Only thing I knew was that I wanted him to be gray in complexion.

#1 was predominately dark red and black. Too dark.
#2 was reddish brown with touches of green. Still didn't say "basilisk" to me.

Acetone comes in pretty handy.

How are you planning on handling the other characters Blue? Is it possible to make a self respecting villain named Wee Willie?

Blue
Jan 24th, '05, 09:28 AM
Hehe. I think having villains with no self-respect pop up out of nowhere is part of the charm. They all want a piece of the action. I like the idea that the heroes are scratching their heads and asking, "What on Earth made these guys think they could take on us?"

I'm also trying to figure out a good way to get the players involved on the villain side. I've got one hero who is practically a villain already (the other players just don't know it). But I'm deciding if I want them to make low-level villains to take on a few heroes or if I want divide up the group (say, have four heroees at one scene when a handful of villains pop up) and have the other players play the villain NPCs. If I do this last part it won't be until after the plot has been somewhat exposed.

While Laid up due to surgery, here are a few of the miniatures I'm working on:

First up in one of three villains for a group I'm going to toss at my players soon. They're the Acolytes of Apocalypse. This is War, the axe and shield transform the bearer into a host for the Asgardian Tyr, god of War.

The figure is from the Reaper Acolyte of War, and one of my best jobs thus far (IMO).

red_eagle123
Jan 24th, '05, 10:19 AM
This is Famine, the second of my Acolytes of Apocalypse. I haven't come up with a definitive background for him yet, but the bow turns the human host into Famine. I tried to paint the figure as a Native American, not sure how well it came out.

The figure is Reaper's Acolyte of Famine.

red_eagle123
Jan 24th, '05, 10:27 AM
This is the last of my Triad of Acolytes. This is Death. His powers come from the upper half of the scythe. One of the players has a Museum Curator secret ID and is currently examining a skull with a spine fused to it. She's determined it's magical but that's it. My idea is that when attacked to a stick, the mouth emits an energy blade in the form of a scythe.

That's why the blade is red, I was trying to show that it's an energy blade. The rest of the outfit is just a costume, so you can see a peek of skin on his arms behind the gloves.

The figure is a Reaper Acolyte of Death figure.

Since I haven't yet figured out what I'm going to do for a fourth Acolyte of Apocalypse, I'm also working on some other villains. This is the leader of a team I'm going to call the Elementals.

One of the subplots I've got going is that someone is attacking companies that are polluting the environment. Since one of the players has a history of eco-terrorism (before becoming a hero), and has been missing, the initial blame is being focussed on her for now.

The character pictured here is a Summoner, summoning spirits of the elements to serve him. The figure is a Reaper figure, an Earth Wizard. The little hand came with the figure.

red_eagle123
Jan 24th, '05, 10:31 AM

red_eagle123
Jan 24th, '05, 10:33 AM
This is the last of the Elementals, Air. Still a Reaper figure.

I like Reaper figures, since they have a lot of detail on them. Problem is they're more suited for a fantasy D&D game than Champions.

red_eagle123
Jan 24th, '05, 10:35 AM
This is a Reaper Troll that I'm going to use as a Mad Scientists genetic abomination. I've got a couple other figures that will also have been created by this same mad scientist, but they're not near enough complete to take pictures of.

red_eagle123
Jan 24th, '05, 10:37 AM
These last two are figures that can easily be used in a Super Hero setting, but as of yet I haven't come up with any campaign use for them yet. The strong man is finished, and is painted from a Reaper Flesh Golem. I'm debating whether to add some tatoo's or something to him, since he's kinda bland at the moment.

The Martial artist isn't complete yet. I still have to do the hair and the gauntlets on his arms. Everything else is done. I'm still debating on a hair color, although I'm leaning towards a sandy brown color (Yellow base, brown drybrush highlights). This is a Reaper Monk figure.
