Okay, here's the scenario. You're at your local con and signed up for the SuperFriends RPG. Unfortunately, the Sailor Moon RPG ran overtime and by the time you get to the game, everybody else grabbed up all the good characters. You have these choices.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I choose Gleek after all he has a real superpower his tail:D

El Dorado. Because nobody knew what powers he had, not even he did.

"I'll swirl my cape thingy and use my Mind Control Powers."

(My wife is convinced that it's because All Poorly Drawn Mexicans look alike. This week Jose is out with back strain, so Jesus comes in. Now, they look alike, thanks to crappy Superfriends artwork, so nobody knows the difference. And this time El Dorado uses his fire vision powers. Next time Enrique is in the costume, and he's got mental powers. Next time, Jose's back, and he's pretty good in a fight, but has no real powers.)

I went with Apache Chief. Growing bricks are neat.

However any of the others would be okay...
except Gleek.
I would play any of the other characters with the express goal of killing that monkey. I hated Gleek.
If I were playing:
Apache Chief : "Ooops.. I seem to have a blue smear on the bottom of my moccasin."
Samuraii: "Nee Haikuu... my whirl wind seems to have sent Gleek back into space. Good, he will be happier there."
Black Vulcan: (Look left, look right, then barbecue him) "He must have stuck his tail in an outlet."
El Dorado: (run cape over him and banish him forever)"Now for my next magical trick."
Aquaman: "Go on Gleek, play with the jelly fish.... go ahead. They don't bite."

I hate Gleek.

I chose Samurai because none of the writers seemed to remember from week to week what his powers were. He could turn into living flame, go invisable, turn into a hurricane, fly, and lots of other cute one shot power tricks. So either he had a VPP or several thousand points worth of every power in the book.

Besides at least he is not Gleek.

Yeah, I had fantasies as a child of Marvin, Wendy, Kairo, the Twins, Wonderdog, and Gleek all tied together and thrown into a volcano. I always wanted to scream at the TV, "If I wanted to see children acting stupid, I'll hang out with my friends." I wasn't watching SFs to see the sidekicks, so why did they waste so much screen time on them.

Even at 8, I can remember the whole thing being insulting. I always wondered why Superman just didn't use his heat vision to burn the villains head off. It's so much more expediant.

Okay, okay. Gleek is fried (space) monkey meat. I also don't see anything wrong with him opening up the full spectrum of heat vision on Bizarro, Brainiac, and Solomon Grundy. It would probably be wrong, albiet merciful, to do to somebody like King Plasto or the Riddler.

I chose Gleek becase since Hermit and I were late to the game anyway, we wouldn't need to demand the attention of the GameMaster. I'd eek about and be generally annoying, and Hermit would keep trying to connect with the Pushed Haymaker.

Hours of fun right there!

That, and Gleek would use his prehensile tail to snap Wonder Woman's bra.

I went with Gleek before I read through the thread and learned I might be spending the entire evening dodging Apache Chief :). I might have gone with him even if "Better" characters had been available. Not having played in a con game in more than a decade and apparently just coming from a Sailor moon game a background/comic relief character seemed like a good idea.

Because The Riddler's gunning for "Most Useless Character in the DC 'Verse", and Gleek is standing in his way.

And as for me? I'd take Apache Chief as well. So what if he makes himself an easy target? The fact that he could wield a Saturn V rocket in HTH combat more than makes up for that.

How can you not love Samurai? He's an air elemental with untapped power resources like invisibility and flames. He's also a tactical genius who measures up to Superman's Kryptonian intelligence (in chess at least). ;)

Wiki:
In addition to controlling wind, Samurai can also call upon other abilities he learned during his years of training in the ancient arts. He invokes them by speaking a phrase in Japanese:
Kaze no Yō ni Hayaku — The most frequently used of Samurai's powers, all of Samurai's body (except sometimes his head) becomes a powerful tornado of wind that allows him to travel at superspeed and use his winds to pick up objects or blow them around. In later episodes of the series, he would frequently appear with only his lower body transformed into a tornado. (The phrase translates to "Swift as the wind")
Tōmei Ningen — The second-most frequently used of Samurai's power, used twice, this allows Samurai to turn invisible. (The phrase translates to "transparent man/human")
Igo Moen — Only used once or twice throughout the series, Samurai engulfs himself in flames. (The first half of the phrase is not proper Japanese, but the second half can be read as 'great fire/flame'.)

Origin:
Samuri's real name is Toshio Eto, and he was an history professor prior to becoming a superhero. One day, Eto was struck by a beam of light sent by the New Gods of New Genesis, who were trying to create more superheroes to defend the world from Darkseid. Although Eto briefly ran wild with his new powers, the New Gods explained their intent to him and he vowed to become a superhero.

Apache Chief, Black Vulcan and El Dorado come in tied for a close second.

I particularly enjoyed their mose recent adaptations in Justice League Unlimited as the Ultimen:

Wiki:
Wind Dragon – The leader of the Ultimen, who had the power to control the wind and later on create ice. (Based on Samurai)
Long Shadow - Has the powers to expand his body mass, growing into a massive giant. Also demonstrates enhanced hearing. Has a crush on Wonder Woman, much to Batman’s chagrin. (Based on Apache Chief)
Downpour - Shifter’s brother, can turn into any form of water, whether liquid, gaseous (steam), or solid (ice), including ice constructs. (Based on Zan of the Wonder Twins)
Shifter – Downpour’s sister, can turn into any animal, even extinct ones, though she always has white skin, fur, scales, etc. (Based on Jayna of the Wonder Twins)
Juice – Can generate and control electricity. Water is his weakness and causes his powers to short out. (based on Black Vulcan, who is in turn based on the character Black Lightning)

Given the limitations of being a Superfriends game, what would any of the readers do to make Aquaman a viable character without wrecking TSF as we know it?

A few months ago I took my granddaughter to Monkey Jungle here in Florida and I was informed that monkey bites are some of the nastiest bites of most animals. So if Gleek ever actually got pissed enough and close enough some the less resistant villians like Riddler, Toyman, Lex Luthor and the like could be in for a nasty surprise.

Luthor: "Hah, ha ha!, superfriends, Luthor gloated as the stood over the more powerful Superfriends, I have defeated your more powerful heroes. You have no chance fools. Ha ha ha ha ha!"

Gleek: "Screeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!" Chomp!

Luthor: "Ahhhhhh!!!!!! Get it off! Get it off!!"
