Imagine a Champs game where it's a new local/national holiday where the local superheroes are celebrated. I'm trying to brainstorm some events and strange features such a holiday would feature just to mess with my players minds. Kids in costumes, etc. The whole 9 yards. Ideas?

1. Parades.
2. School children reading their winning essays on "Why _____ is my favorite superhero"
3. Contests to see who can look the most like a certain hero or villain. Which of course will make things confusing if a villain decides to strike.
4. Exhibition matches or battles.

Perhaps around Dusk it would be traditional to give a moment of thought to the Superheroes who'd fallen before.

This'll screw with their heads:

In some cities like San Francisco and New York an "Exotic/Erotic Ball" tradition where people dress up like the super-heroes (especially the PCs) as a sexual fetish and cavort about in sex-clubs and fetish bars.

I can see the following observance happening in coastal cities (or places where they have a large body of water--like a lake):

"Superhero Day" Flugtag!

Crazy people doing nutty things, from dressing up as their fave flying heroes, to making flying machines that are patterned like their fave hero's costume, and then catapulting themselves off the pier in order to jump into the sky...and then go "flop!" into the water.

Good clean fun...right?

"If" a villain decides to strike?

Surely you mean "when"?

Surely the real tradition of Superhero Day is the epic battle with Foxbat and/or Pulsar. ;)

I can just see Foxbat showing up at a party and seeing everyone dressed like him.

To quote the Penguin from Batman Returns:

"I think the word you're looking for is AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!"

My apologies if the quote isn't totally accurate; it's been a while since I've
been able to watch that particular flick.

Now, if at no other time, is your chance to run a Legion Tryouts scenario.

Allow the superheroes to find out that their PR person (they do have a PR person to annoy them, don't they?) has told the local media that the superheroes will be holding tryouts. Thousands show up.

Cue Color Kid, Infectious Lass, Porcupine Pete, Arm-Fall-Off Boy, etc. Amuse yourself watching the superheroes trying to let down the hopefulls without crushing their hopes and dreams.

Even better, you can have one of the rejects come back in the future, gunning for revenge. "Oh, Infectious Lad wasn't good enough for you, was I? Well, let's see you rescue that bus of screaming schoolchildren plummeting off the bridge... while you have Montezuma's revenge!"

Yes, that is the classic scenario. Which is why you shouldn't do it. Your players will expect it, so you should throw them lots of red herrings, maybe allow them to freak out when the Foxbat Fanclub shows up looking for autographs, but allow them the anticlimax.

Then, next year's Superhero Day, have the real Foxbat show up... and wonder why the superheroes are convinced he's only there for their autograph.

I think my character may have killed the PR guy :stupid:

Actually it might be interesting to see how some of the heroes who areless people-friendly; you know the one who shy away from the limelight, who dont do it for publicity, just plain anti-social, etc. react.

I can see Superbadger now

"What, a superhero day? No way in hell, I am leaving my secret cave today, (folllowed be several obscenities). Luckily no one knows where his secret cave is outside the city (except for one fellow hero who is sworn to secrecy) so no worries of visitors.

Sounds like the good annual tradition for that city is the "hunt for the Secret Superbadger's Cave" where all the high school kids every year scour the local forests to find the cave.

Got to add to the Legend though. There was one teenager who (supposedly)actually found it 10 years ago........he was never heard from again. Then add a loud BOO! :) :)

Alternately, it could be added that Cerebus the three-headed guard dog of Hades watches over the cave. You got to scare these kids, you know. :stupid:

In any case my characters are usually poster-childs for heros who dont want any extra attention.

Actually, my group used that (and Wildguard) as some inspiration ;)

if foxbat shows up... you have to have him lose the contest cause his outfit doesn't look 'legit' enough.

Old or new controversies would also get attention, with a few (or many) picketing or demonstrating.

Traditional dinner - whatever the favorite food of some past great or megastar current super enjoyed, probably. And it would include spinach because that makes you strong, obviously.

Supers have to be on the lookout for demented copycats/wannabes who might hurt themselves.

Superbattle reenactments! (Now there's plot possibilites - "Oh my God, that's the REAL Assassinator 5000 killing robot! NOOOOO!")
