View Full Version : Lopsided Teams

There's a lack of new posts running around today so I thought I'd toss out a new question.
Do any of you belong to/GM a team that is woefully underqualified in some specific area. If so, which one? I'll even include a little poll above.
Since Energy Projectors are the most common, I'll skip them.

I have never been on a team nor GMed one that had a straight up mentalist played. One game I GMed had an NPC mentalist, but that's it.

New team has no real shape yet so I'll not comment.
Last team however was teamwork and non-combat skills. They were all there to crush the security officers when they showed up, rather than disable the system and avoid them all together.

In their defense, 4 out of 5 of my players are new to Hero/Champions (and 3 of those are new to the comicbook genre), but of the above list, they've got...
...a brick. And he's being played by the experienced Hero/Champions gamer.

Actually the team I'm GMing is actually a little shy on the energy projection measure! Yes, 3 of them have energy projection but in 2 cases it's relatively weak and in the case where it's decent it's nothing amazing. But they make up in versatility anyway.

Well, the Champions 2018 campaign is "high power" (450 total points), so there was no excuse to lack NC skills or even "multiclass" to some degree.
For instance, many of the more advanced and esoteric "ninja powers" from UMA are Mentalist effects. So, a "high-powered" ninja can be built as a perfectly capable 350-point Martial Artist with a "Mentalist package" glued on.

The team I GM for is way, way too focused, so they are missing almost everything in the list...
There are no real bricks, the 2 closest characters are the power-armor guy Captain Havoc, and the Dragon. Both of which focus more on energy projection, and both of which cap out at 60 Str in a campaign with 40+ DC attacks flying around.
The closest thing to a mentalist is the half-alien with mind link, TK, and a single-command mind control (sleep).
There is no speedster and no team work ( yet ).
But there are 3 mystic types...
One a mystic gadgeteer, one a mystic martial artist, and one a mystic metamorph.
And the last two guys are a martial artist with a BFG, and a wolverine clone.

I only have a group of 4, so something is ALWAYS missing, but Bricks surely seem on the top list. I think they just find the other archetypes more exciting, but of course, I also make NPCs to help, so usually 'I' play the Brick if I feel one is needed. (Sort of sad really, barring PBEMs and Blue moons, this is the only way I get to be a player).

I GM a group of six(seven sometimes), only two of whom are worth a damn outside of combat. The team on a whole wouldn't know teamwork if it came up a bit them on the face.

In my campaign no PC has ANY type of serious movement power! The fastest PC can run 16". No flight. No TP. No nothin' fancy. It makes for some interesting scenes.
They also show no team work but the campaign is fairly new...I restarted an older camapign and added a twist...so I don't expect too much yet.
[Edit] Forgot...there is not a brick either but one of the PC is really tough and has TK. Same thing. ;)

One team one of my characters was on only had one person who could fly. Me! And the others had maybe 8" running at most.

Gadgeteer? What's that?
We've got more bricks than we know what to do with. Bricks, in fact, are our most common choice. Actually, what we call "Flying Omni-Bricks" are most common.
We've got more team speed than we know what to do with. When the average speed is 7+, you're not slow. :D
