View Full Version : NukeCon Dinner

Howdy, folx!

As many of you already know, I'm scheduled to be a guest at NukeCon in Omaha, Nebraska on October 1-3. Since it appears there are going to be a lot of Hero fans from the boards in attendance, we're thinking about putting together a dinner on the night of Saturday, October 2.

We haven't worked out the specifics yet, since I don't have my full schedule for the convention and don't want to miss any panels or whatnot that the con wants me to participate in. However, at a guess I imagine we'll meet in the lobby of the hotel and then decide where we want to eat. That'll depend in part on how many people we've got and how many cars we've got access to. ;)

Hope to see you there!

Who-all's going?

Bill.

Well, I can't say for certain, other than Leah Watts who's associated with the convention. But the following persons have told me they are at least going to make a solid effort to be there:

Bill Keyes (i.e., you;))
Dale Robbins
George Van Meter

And I think several others as well. Those are just people who have mentioned their (possible) attendance to me. The dinner is yet another reason to attend, hopefully. :hex:

Yes, sounds like fun. Count me in (pending my GM'ing schedule, of course).

Geez, you had to go and confuse me by using real names instead of handles... ;)

Bill Keyes

Never heard of him. He's probably a real jerk.

;)

Dale Robbins

Crimsonhawk, if I recall...?

George Van Meter

Don't know if I know him.

Bill.
(Dinner with the message board krew... Dangit, now I *have* to go!) :hex:

Slight conflict here folks -- the convention board was planning to take Steve out for dinner Saturday night. How about a late lunch? Steve's Saturday GM slot gets done at 2. Unless something else is working it's way through the convention e-mail list, there's nothing else on the schedule until 5 or 5:30 when the person in charge of the miniatures contest would like Steve to pick his favorites.

Steve, I'll keep after them to get things settled. There's a meeting Tuesday night, with any luck I can get everything pulled together and off to you.

OK, that seems like a reasonable compromise, since I don't want to move it to Sunday (because some people are only attending for Saturday). We'll plan for a late lunch on Saturday beginning at 2:00.

Late lunch on Saturday sounds like a plan to me. After the lunch, I'll try to pull together an impromptu game for anyone interested and capable (i.e. isn't caught up in panels and functions requested of a guest of honor and so forth)

I've checked Greyhound prices... it's $57 round trip from KC to Omaha, so that'll be a cinch to cover. Now I just need to figure out where I'm staying and how I'm going to get there from the Greyhound station.... ;)

Oh I have been on the board for quite a while. Late lunch sounds good for me. Is it all right if my friend tag along Steve?

Sure, friends, spouses, pets, etc. are more than welcome, as long as they can tolerate Hero kibbitzing. ;)

Aw, man. Wish I could go kibbitz with some Hero Pets.

The game idea sounds good I would be willing.

Good question, the Greyhound station is downtown and the convention hotel is in southwest Omaha. I know you could take city buses at least part of the way, but I don't know if you could get all the way there.

The Days Inn has a discount rate for Nuke-Con, but there's some other hotels nearby that might be cheaper. Alas, I only have a one-bedroom apartment so hosting Hero attendees won't work out.

EDIT: I ran over to http://www.metroareatransit.com/html/Ride_MAT.html , and while there's a few buses that run past the con site most of them are flagged as express routes. I haven't ridden the buses routinely for years, but IIRC those may be weekday get-people-to-and-from-work routes with no buses running at other times. :(

If you have a bathtub you have an extra bed;) But seriously, Crimson are you going to be there all three day or just Saturday and that night? If so, coming from Iowa I could pick you up Saturday morning. If memory serves me right, Omaha does have taxis (though this could add an expense that one doesn't want to add).

I would probably show up at the Greyhound station Friday afternoon, work my way as close to the Day's Inn as possible via bus, then get a cab for the rest of the way. I would then stay for two nights (either at the Day's Inn assuming room is available or another nearby hotel/motel is room isn't) and return to Kansas City Sunday morning.

I've shunted an email to the main email address for the Help Desk at the NukeCon website. They were extremely helpful in answering my questions. I now know of several hotels/motels I can contact in case Day's Inn doesn't suit me for whatever reason. And I know of a Greyhound stop only 6.5 miles from the Day's Inn. If for nothing else, that's much less of a taxi fare than I'd anticipated.

I had made the comments above mostly as an indication that I needed to get myself motivated in arranging my own accomodations, as opposed to begging assistance in the matter. I do tend to come off wrong that way when I say things like that. ;) I did however find myself hoping people could offer hints that help me accomplish my tasks, though I didn't explicitly come right out and ask for such hints. :D

This will be an adventure for me, since I'm doing this purely on my own accord without dependence on a family member or roommate. The only other times I've done this was when I've gone to visit my daughter, so it should be interesting. ;)

Well, now I've gone and done it. I just registered myself and my wife for NukeCon. All that's left is to get a hotel room. No backing out now. :angst: ;)

I've also volunteered to run a couple of games, so hopefully I'll get a few takers. :)

See y'all there!

Bill.

I'll be running my "Star Trek: Another Twist of the Knife" game at NukeCon.

Well, I got my GM request in too late to be in the official program, but space permitting I'll try to run an Iron Age/Dark Champions pick-up game on Sunday if anyone's interested. :)

Current NukeCon plan: We'll be arriving sometime around midnight on Friday (and probably just toddle off to bed, unless one or more of y'all is planning to be up around then). We'll be there all day Saturday and all day Sunday, and leave Monday morning. Anyone staying past the Con's closing hour want to do a Dead Dog Party? :)

Bill.
(And I'm signed up for Steve's DC game!) :bmk: :D

I'll find out tomorrow when I pick up my paycheck (right before boarding the bus, too) if I'll stay Sunday night. But I'm definately there for Friday evening and all of Saturday, so see you guys there!

Well, I'm here now -- preparing for a brief field trip to the zoo before the con gets started. Don't know if I'll be up until midnight, but I'll definitely be around this afternoon and evening as the con gets started up. See y'all then!

(If anyone is still around to read this thread...) :)

We'll be staying at the Day's Inn Carlisle (the Con's hotel), so if you want to get together or say hi, leave a message at the front desk and they'll give it to us when we check in.

See y'all there!

Made it back from Nuke-con and it was a blast (and yes I didn't fall asleep on the way back and ended up in a ditch). BTW Steve I realized I didn't say good-bye until I was way over in Council Bluffs so very sorry (didn't want you to think I was snobbing you (bad idea to get a game designer on your bad side)). Hopefully I can make it back there next year.

Glad you made it home safely, George. NP on the goodbye -- in fact, I think I was out at dinner when you left anyway, so you wouldn't've been able to find me. Thanx again for the tarot cards!
