The description of AVLD specifies "AVLD only costs +3/4 if the defense aganst it is...simply a limited form of the Power's standard defense." Yet the sidebar Power example is an EB AVLD vs. PD Force Field at +1 1/2. Assuming the EB in question does Physical damage (vs. Energy - the example does not specify), since Force Field normally protects against EBs, that would seem to be a +3/4 AVLD, not the listed +1 1/2. Is the example in error, or am I missing the intent of the phrase quoted above?

Similarly, if a Drain was bought AVLD vs. Resistant Power Defense, would that then be a +3/4 Advantage, since RPower Def would be a limited version of the Power's standard defense?

The question of which value applies is up to the GM.

In the first example you cite, your assumption is wrong -- acid (which is the special effect, indicated by the title of the power, "Corrosive Acid") works against Energy Defense (see, e.g., the Acid Powers section of the USPD). The example doesn't need to specify because the rules for Energy Blast assume ED applies unless the power description specifically indicates PD applies. Therefore the GM judges that making PD Force Field a defense instead is worth +1 1/2. If another GM thinks otherwise, he can allow +3/4 instead.

Whether your second example would qualify for +3/4 instead of +1 1/2 is, again, up to the GM.
