Need help with Installer Software.

Okay, buy Hero Designer-Windows for computer.

Download latest Java version.

Watch 'auto-self-extracting' installer icon sit on computer desktop like an unnamed lump, not able to extract itself or be opened by anything else I can find.

What am I doing wrong?

Nevermind.. ~doh~
I had to rename it and tell it it was an executable. NOW it runs.

Yup...that's a "Windows security thing."

Microsoft is "protecting" you from the evils of the web by stripping the extension from all .exe files.

The file is actually called (and set on the server) "setup.exe". Once you download it, you just need to put the .exe extension back onto it and you're in business (as you noted).

It seems to be a common problem for XP and Internet Explorer.

By the by...you didn't need to bother pulling Java down on your own....HD runs with it's own copy of Java (included in the installer).

Having another copy of Java on your system won't hurt anything, however.
