I've noticed a small problem with DEX and SPD.
1. Create a new character.
2. Select the Characteristics tab.
3. Click on the value box for DEX.
4. Type "18" as the value for DEX.
SPD becomes 1 with a point value of -18. If DEX is then adjusted with the arrows, SPD stays 1 below calculated and -10 points unless you manually adjust it.

I'm not getting that behavior when I change the DEX. Regardless of whether I type in the value manually or use the arrow buttons, it works fine.

I think I see what is happening. Just changing the Dex isn't enough, you then have to sell back your speed to One.
If you buy up your Dex, HD is treating you as though you have a fractional speed for all purposes. You are only supposed to be treated as though you have a fractional speed when buying it up.
In this example, when you do you sell back 10 points of speed as well as the 8 points of "partial speed".
According to the rules FAQ this isn't how it is supposed to work.
Speed
Q: If a character ends up with a fractional remainder for SPD (for example, he has DEX 24, yielding a SPD of 3.4, and chooses not to buy it up to 4), may he sell back the fractional remainder?
A: No. The character you describe doesn’t have a “SPD 3.4” — he has SPD 3, and thus nothing to sell back. A “fractional result” for SPD only comes into play, and only benefits the character, if he chooses to buy his SPD up to the next whole number.

That's correct, as far as it goes. But we're talking about a slightly different case. What is being done here is that the SPD is being sold off from 2.8 to 1.0. Not from 2.8 to 2.0.
I just talked to Steve about this and he agrees with the way HD is doing things. If you actively sell off your SPD (making it the one Figured Characteristic that you've sold off), then you get the points back, in the same manner as you would be spending them to buy your SPD back up.
He will be making an addendum to the Rules FAQ to highlight this.

It seems to be an intermitant problem when I run the program. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.
So it's probably a glitch in my system. ( I really need better than 333 MHz and 64 MB).

Yes, you do. Especially considering that the published minimum system requirements for HD include 128MB of RAM.

Steve has had a Change of Heart™. He does not want fractional SPD ever being sold back.
So...there will be a new update coming out shortly with the fix for this (later today)
