Ok, a question mixed with a rant.
Does anyone else feel like the Golden Age is getting the shaft a bit? It was pushed to next year because of the books planned and now it's being pushed back to 2006. I get the feeling it'll be pushed back farther next year due to "lack of intrest"
Since it was annoucned for (late!) 2005 I've been salivating waiting for it to come out and now it's not due until 2006???
Sorry, but that just bites.

Well, the only reason it's being pushed back (and it's only to January or February '06, not much past where it's been all this time) is so that I can have time to write it properly. It won't get pushed back again (barring any completely unforeseen disasters), but since I have a full-time job running this company, I need AT LEAST 5-6 months to make sure it's the definitive word on the era. I'll start working on it next May after Champs Worldwide is done- believe me, we know there's plenty of interest in the title. I'm the biggest GA fanboy around- it's not being forgotten about. dw

Let me second that. Yes, it does bite. I really want to see it come out. Unfortunately, I suspect Hero may base it's printing schedule on what will make them the most money in the shortest time. Understandable, really, it's a business after all.
Maybe this is the thread to do something about it. How about everyone who reads this, and wants to see GAC in 2005 just hit the reply button and say 'me too!'
I think if we could show Mr. Long a thread with 200+ postings we might get his attention.

Nahh, we're already pretty sure that GAC will be a reasonably strong-selling title. There's no other reason for the scheduling except that I want to write it myself, and that's the earliest time it can come out if I do. RHIP and all that. dw

I'd love to see it earlier, but from Darren's comments, we're talking about a three month delay - not the end of the world. As well, I'd rather have it six months later, done right, than 3 months earlier, rushed out and not the top quality product I'm used to seeing from Hero.
Why is it delayed? Because Darren lacks the tim,e to do it justice any sooner. I'd rather see Darren (who has a track record and a love of the genre, from his comments) do this later, than subcontract it to someone who botches the job - we won't get "GAC: V2.0" any time soon. Plus, a good job on GAC may attract some interest that otherwise wouldn't be there, and see some further GA projects on the schedule down the road.

And this he can safely say without having seen my outline, which will probably cause him to tack a couple months onto his estimates. ;)

GAC v3.0, don't forget Firebird Ltd's run on it before it came fully over to Hero. And I'm just saying it bites. I know everyone is different and wants different items sooner, for me that's the item I'd rather see sooner then later and there are a number of books on the list that I have no intrest in.
And yes, I do know it depends ont he person. Some people don't care about GAC, some do.

I guess I just don't see a change from "late 2005" to "early 2006" as being a big delay. Plus, having it just a little longer after Pulp Hero will also allow Darren to take more of the stuff from Pulp Hero into account. Considering how much pulp adventure and early superheroics are related, that can probably only be a good thing. :)

I'm with Derek on this one. A few months is not a big delay. I think it is very safe to say that Darren will not allow it to get pushed too much further out. He has personally told me how much he is looking forward to writing this book. Things like genre and sub-genre books take a lot more time to research and write so Hero can really only do a couple of them a year.

I am eagerly awaiting this and Silver Age, but fully agree it should be done in good time and not rushed.
As I was VERY underwhelmed with the previous book on the subject (especially the characters and artwork) the new version by Darren should be a quantum leap in quantity as the whole 5th edition CU itself is built on the building blocks of his GA campaign.
Also agree that Pulp Hero being published will make GAC both easier to use and compliment it nicely.
Bottom line is do it right. Which with all the books I have bought so far for Hero 5th (and i have over 20+) has been the case so far.
