Hero Designer 2 Praise

I would have put this in the HD section, but it seemed like that was more for questions and bug reports.

Anyway, I downloaded v2 from the website a couple nights ago. I was able to install it, back it up, teach myself the program, make my first complete HERO character, and sample most of the export templates, all in under two hours. The folks who worked on this did a great job. It's a tremendously useful and easy to use tool.

Total agreement here. It is really useful, and fun to play with. I haven't gotten into developing export templates, I think that's where there is a lot of power and complexity.

The documentation and some of the exports were done by others, but by in large this is the work of one seriously dedicated programmer.

HDv2 does indeed rock! I think it's the most useful HERO System product besides the rulebook itself.

I recall on the NGD boards, Von D-man was describing his computer troubles (http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=474787&highlight=hero+designer#post474787), involving windows royally screwing him over. After seven days in the abyss, he recovered his data. Here's how he tells it:
Well, I recovered my data after several days, but Windows still blows. The profile was corrupted and had to be deleted, but the data was stored under a user name folder that I never created on this machine. Very weird. I found it by accident. I clicked on an image file in hero designer that shouldn't have been there all things considered and the dialogue that popped up had the path to the image in it (not where it was originally). I followed the path and found the data.

It's really too bad I've never managed to get the demo program to work on my machine. Oh well.
