Costume design help...please?

Okay, I've got a bit of a problem. Now, due to my lack of esthetic sense, I've got a character whom I can't seem to come up with a costume with. He originally had a "flagsuit" design on his costume, but has since abandoned it and what I'm looking for is an "anti-flagsuit" look.

Originally I simply reversed the colors on the color wheel. I used heromachine to make the prototype, then edited a little bit. Unfotunately...well, you can see for yourself. Any suggestions on a better design/color scheme to convey the concept?

You might try reversing just one of the colors. Red, Black, and Blue, for instance. Go for deeper red and blue while you're at it, and you should get something that reminds you of the American flag gone bad.

Simplicity might work, black suit with blue boots, red gloves and a white star on one corner/side of the suit- not large but noticeable.

Jumpin' Jiminy! I'm assuming the visor is in case he wants to look in the mirror...

Too many stars. He's looking like the Riddler from Batman on TV (biff, pow, zam). Maybe keep the pants solid, and only have the shirt for a flag-motif.

And green and orange (?) is probably not the best color combo. I'd drop the green for a color from the flag.

i had a little play around with herodesigner version 2which is located here (http://www.ugo.com/channels/comics/heroMachine2/heromachine2.asp) i know the version I came up with is probably nothing like the actual character but heres the code so you can change the bits you don't want but its a nice colour combo dark greys and blood red.
