I noticed in Fantasy Hero Grimoire I, several spells had a -1/2 limitation called "Spell". This was not in every write up, but in many I looked at. I was wondering if anyone knew:
1) what did it signify?
2) why some spells had it and others didn't (for instance, it wasn't universal within a school)?

I'm pretty sure you'll only find that on attack spells. Spell is a combination of can't be spread and can't be bounced , if I remember correctly. It should be explained a little better at the beginning of the magic section.

Do you mean the magic section in FH? Because I couldn't find it mentioned in FH or Grimoire (not to say its not there, just I can't locate it).

FHGrimoire I, page 3, next to the last paragraph says Spell limitation is described in Fantasy Hero page 246. The Spell limitation is in the next to the last paragraph on page 246 (but read the entire 2nd column to understand it).

That said, some spells in FHG have the limitation and don't seem limited by it. The Undead Turning spell, for example - what does Spell prohibit that "attack PRE" could have done in any case?

Which spell do you mean exactly?

Here's the query I posed on the Rules Q board. I don't recall the spell, but I think it was in Turakian for use by priests of a deity who "dislikes" the Undead. It may have been in the "steal spells from the gods" school in FHG, though.

Thewre's likely an obvious answer I'm overlooking. I don't have the books with me, but the spell which gives rise to my question was Divine Magic in either in FHG I or Turakian Age, I think the latter. It was similar to the Turn Undead talent, adding +50 PRE only for PRE attacks against undead or infernal beings, with the usual slate of limitations. However, it included the Spell limitation.

I can't think of how one would use the combat maneuvers and modifiers prohibited by the Spell limitation with a PRE attack. Can you elaborate on what could be used without that limitation?

Hugh, I think you're referring to Repel the Undead on FHG page 250. Since this spell is considered an Attack Action it could be argued that without the Spell limitation it could be used as part of a Multiple Power Attack. I'm guessing that's why Spell is there.
