While sifting through the threads in the Old Forum Archives, I came upon a post by our fellow member, the erudite Xandarr, in which he mentioned that he'd done extensive conversions of the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying Game into HERO System Fifth Edition, and offered to email the files to anyone who wanted them. (Those boards didn't offer the option of posting attachments.) Intrigued, I contacted Xandarr to ask if he still had those files and would be willing to send them to me. I also inquired as to whether he'd mind me making them accessible to the rest of our community. Xandarr was gracious enough to agree to all of the above. :)
I'm posting Xandarr's files in two .zipped attachments. The first one contains a series of text files comprising the bulk of the conversions from Warhammer: Characteristics and Skills, a list of character Careers, a more specialized list for Magical and Clerical Careers, Disadvantages, Languages, Martial Arts, Racial and Social Package Deals, Spell Colleges and Schools, and Armor and Weapons lists. There's also a very brief file describing Xandarr's House Rules for his campaign; the Packages were written to conform to them, and a few of the costs will seem a little off unless you read those house rules first. They're very easy to edit to taste, though.
That attachment also includes converted characters from several published Warhammer FRPG adventures. Not all of them are complete, and even the ones that are require the original adventures in order to run them. At the very least, though, they provide you with a flock of ready-made NPCs.
The second attachment is made up of text files with various optional house rules from Xandarr's campaign, dealing with a number of game mechanic issues: variants on Healing, Damage, Initiative, Attack Rolls, the effect of alcohol on characters, and approaches to speeding up combat. None of these options are necessary to use the conversion material, but they are at least interesting and thought-provoking, and some may find them useful.
Let me add this note from Xandarr:
Things to keep in mind: my campaigns tend to be very heroic, so point values run high. Combat skills are cheap, allowing even academic characters to defend themselves against the forces of Chaos without sacrificing too much in the way of their studies. As a result, characters and NPC's in my games tend to be high-end compared to some other games. Feel free to adjust to your personal tastes. With my conversion, it's easy to remove skills and disadvantages to tone down the careers if you wish.
If anyone has any questions or comments about these files that you'd like to direct to Xandarr, you can reach him via private message or email (through his discussion board profile). I'm sure he'd welcome your feedback.
My thanks again to Xandarr for all his fine work. You'll find the files attached below - I hope you enjoy them:
