Okay, apologies for the site not getting an update recently. The day job has gotten "interesting", the part-time job doing freelance RPG writing has picked up, I've suddenly acquired a social life on Saturday nights, and I've been in a tizzy since I found out that Robin Laws (who I know!!!) is writing IRON MAN for the moment.
I've got a draft of the Mark V armor that needs tweaking (Rivet-head), and then I'll be doing the Classic armor up... which is going to be the most complicated conversion. I'll likely post a draft of that here, for comments and help working out some of the bugs.
And if you haven't picked it up, IRON MAN #65 was actually pretty good. Manages to work in just about everything you'd want from Iron Man short of a battle with an armor-clad Communist. :)

At the risk of posting these all over the place, have you seen this?
MSHRPG Weapon Locker PDF (http://www.heroplay.com/features/rules/msh/pdf/weaponslocker.pdf)
It's a PDF of the old Marvel Superhero RPG Weapon Locker book. It have a variety of Shellhead's armors, Iron Monger, Crimson Dynamo, Guardsman... etc...
It mightbe of help... or it might be redundant.

Yeah, I snagged it from your other post of it. It's relevant, though I also have the old binder-ready Marvel SuperHeroes stuff, plus the Marvel SAGA Avengers book and the Handbook and Deluxe Handbook entries to look at.
I just need to dig up a copy of the Iron Manual, and they need to put out a 2nd volume of the Essential Iron Man...

Ah... But wasn't there a time (Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Dick Ayers, Gene Colan, David Micheline, John Romita jr., Bob Layton) that ALL Iron Man comics were essential? *sigh*

An IRON-MAN movie in 2005 :) It's a wonderous world after all.

I hope the Iron Man movie is wondrous but I'm not going to hold my breath.
I've always thought Tony Stark was a character in need of one of those legendary collaborative teams to get on the title.
I just don't think he's ever been written close to his potential.

I dunno. David Micheline, John Romita jr. and Bob Layton were a pretty amazing team.
The whole Justin Hammer Storyline, the Alchoholism Storyline, Tony and Doom in King Arthur's Court... Great days.
Of course J. Michael Strazynski or maybe Kevin Smith would be my dream team.

Sorry to tell you this Mister Vimes, but Whedon dropped out of the project back in November. It was dead in the water for a while but now is being looked at by the people who did Blade over at New Line Cinema.
Go to www.superherohype.com for more information.

The difficult part will be when you get to the War Machine armor. Not the varient that Rhodey used, but Tony's. According to The Iron Manual it was equipted with a tac Nuke level missile! The Imperial Khan did create this armor for 4th Ed. just the nuke alone came to 1909 points! Created according to the information on nuclear weapons from Hero System Almanac II it pushed Iron man's cost well over 3000 pts.
Of course as Tony never actually used it you could always just ignore it.

Just buy the nuke as 50 points of PRE for threatening purposes. Does almost the same job because, really, I can't imagine very many times when it would be used at times other than a bluff (and you're GM will be happier) You can further bring the cost down by putting it on 1 charge so you don't go around threatening everyone with a nuke (even if you're not tempted to be a monger like that, it should be reserved for special circumstances).

True enough. I haven't seen Blade II, but I've seen the first one and thought it was pretty good.
Still I wish it were being done by the folks who did Spider-man, or myself for that matter. I worry about what someone else might do to the Armor.

And Bruce Campbell for the title role! ;)

Blade II had some problems. I was in a pretty good frame of mind for seeing it so I was able to look past them. I think there were two serious logic problems, but it's certainly worth renting. (But I should warn you, I rented The Punisher as well...)
I really wanted the one actor who had played Cat on Red Dwarf to do something like "This is mine, and this is mine..." or "I'm going to get you little fishy" oh well.:D

Actually... I pictured Timothy Dalton (with an American Accent)... probably because Alex Ross' illo seemed to be modeled on him.

Not on your life!
I big part of the casting will depend on the script being written and who the villian is.
But I actually liked Tom Cruise for the part. Put a moustache on him and he comes pretty close. I wish he were taller but you can't have everthing. And he's already expressed interest in the role.
But that's an interesting question - How do you see in the Armor of Iron Man?

eh... Tom Cruise... not my favorite actor. But after Minority report I might be able to handle it.... afterall I found Michael Keaton credible as Batman.

WORSE. I saw the bootleg of the Fantastic Four...
The Thing was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and Dr. Doom got his butt kicked by Reed's stretch punch...
*Picture this*... Camera angel from behind reed. *SPROING* his fist slowly covers the five feet to Doom's chin. Doom's head snaps back... Repeat 8 times... *SHUDDER*

I am really, Really, REALLY glad that I didn't see this!!!
Dr. Doom is The Imperial Khan's Hero you know.
After Iron Man of course.
Actually I got the idea for character of the Imperial Khan from a re-imagining of Dr. Doom that some guys at marvel were toying with a few years ago. I just wish I could find the damned picture somewhere.

Yeah, he was still called Doom. The basic idea was kind of a "What if" scenario. The what if being what if you were creating these classic characters today for the first time? What would they be like?
Doom was a desert warlord in the Middle East rather than a Dictator of a tiny eastern European nation. His Armor was bigger and heavier looking and he carried a scimitar as well.
They showed some artwork in the back of their existing titles for a few months but that's all that came of it.
I know I've got the issues around here some place. The problem is finding them.

Okay, this is my first pass at the Classic Armor. The VPP takes care of some of the one off things Iron Man does (mirror images, sonic disruptions... that stuff).

I really like the way you lumoed the Rogues Gallery into a hunted. That's a very classy way to do that for someone like Shellhead, Batman or Flash

I don't know. I think that The Mandarin should be a seperate hunted. The others, sure put them together, but Mandy has always been Iron Man's Arch-Foe, I just don't think he should be bunched up with the rest.
And Jason don't you mean the Mk IV armor?

I like the design philosophy but I think this Iron Man is underpowred compared to what I have read in the comics.

Nope, Mark IV is rivet-head, which admittedly isn't much different from Point-Head, but does have some improvements.
As for Mandarin not being separate... he could be, but he doesn't make enough appearances to justify it, I don't think. Of course, at this point, the 20 pts he'd represent as a Hunted is secondary.
As for the power level, I'm trying to fit him into the Champions Universe model, and I think he's still working around 'Standard Hero' power levels in the early days of the Iron Man comic (which is what this tries to reflect).
Around the time of the Silver Centurion Armor we'll see a -significant- bump in all the power levels, probably into the 15DC for the blasts and his STR gets to 55 with a boost into the 60-65 range.
But Iron Man's strength is more his adaptabilty and skill at finding a technical solution to the problem, rather than blasting it to bits. So raw power is less important than the other stuff, I think.

I just don't like the philosophy of constraining the Marvel and DC Icons to fit the "expectations" set in Champions. I know I am in the minority there.
I really do like the design of the character though.
As for Mandarin, he may be THE archenemy but he doesn't really show up that much more than some of those other guys.

Gah, that was fast!
I think the CU provides a nice base-line, though thinking about it, I probably should step back and perhaps move Iron Man and his Classic Armor up from Standard Hero to Powerful Hero levels. And, around the time of Silver Centurion, up to Very Powerful levels.
Something to ponder over the weekend.
Thanks!

to make IronMan, then I could see Ramis suggesting the part to Bruce Campbell. Although he is often waaay too animated, I have seen the possibility of Stark in some of his more subdued moments.
As for the armor, I don't know. I have been REALLY impressed with the lastest movies (Spiderman, Daredevil) keeping extremely close to the original design. It would depend upon how dark of a world they want to create. Go into Batman or X-man type, then you'll get the ol' War Machine. If it is a bit brighter, like Spiderman and you might just get the Red & Gold. I personally would like to see the eariler versions (before his first change to silver and red - I believe it was the Mark 4 armor). Of course, having a lovely series of armors set up along the wall will look cool too. ;)

The problem is that Iron Man's armors may not look good or realistic in the screen. I expect that they will have to work it a lot to make acceptable. A main problem is the articulations, which were treated somewhat lousily in the comics. Still, I imagine that they will design a new armor that will be evocative of the classic/current model. I, as a Iron Man fan, woudl be satisfied with that.

I like the "feel" of the Green Goblin Armor in Spiderman. I think Iron Man's Armor can be done. If there is a problem, I think it will be the helmet. I always thought the helmet was a little too form-fitting to be realistic in the comics - but it sure looked cool!

It might not be as hard as you think. The various powerranger shows use a helmet design that has about the right feel. If you put a hollywood budget behind it you can probably get a good looking IM helmet, it would be at least as form fitting as the silver centurian model.

Hmmm. Another nice writeup there. I have one quibble, though. Reduced Penetration on his Repulsors makes no sense. That really hampers his effectiveness for dealing out the structural damage. There's no way he should be unable to blow holes in a brick wall or shoot down hovercraft with his weapon of choice. This means he does more body damage with his unibeam against tougher targets and that's just wierd.

Agreed about 'Reduced Penetration'. It's a hold over from the first model Repulsors, and will be removed for this version. I was trying to reflect that IM usually uses both hands for the blasts, but I'm figuring that by the point of the Classic Armor, he's just good enough with them that the RP limitation doesn't apply anymore.

Just to keep it straight:
Grey Armor - MkI
Gold Armor - MkII
Pointy Red and Gold Armor - MkIII
Rivet Head - MkIV
Shell Head - MKV
Silver Sphynx - MkVI
Is that right? I'm a bit unsure without documentation in front of me....

Yep.
Mark I - The Original Armor
Mark II - The Golden Avenger
Mark III - Pointy-Head Armor
Mark IV - Proto-Classic Armor (Rivet-head)
Mark V - Classic Armor
I'm using the Advanced Iron naming convention, so I think we'll get the Stealth and Space armors as Marks before the Silver Centurion armor makes its appearance.

Ah, Mark V, my favorite. I never could understand why they acted like the later armors were improvements when the technology they used to explain the Mark V armor would have to be vastly superior to some of the later concepts.

Iron Man is definately one of my all time favorites. I hope they can make good movie out of it. I'd hate to see another "Captain America" or "Punisher" out there. As far as doing a Champions conversion, I've tried to convert some of my favorites. It just never quite works out. I've decided instead to use them as inspirations on my Champions characters. I'm currently playing Man-O-War. An Iron Man inspiration.

Figured that was the case. 12d sounds about right for a standard dose of Repulsor Ray and he can always Haymaker to represent that really effective double dose he was fond of for the tougher targets. He usually had the luxury of pulling that one off at range to minimize interference while blowing up steel walls or whatnot.

That makes the dice range a little more palatable.

At what point does Tony get a heart transplant and lose the dependence on the chestplate? I know he no longer needs it by the time Stane takes over Stark International.
For that matter, is it appropriate to substitute the chest plate for Alchaholism or a Rivalry with other industrialists like Stane and Hammer?

I'm using the DNPC Stark International to reflect the rivalry with folks like Stane. I think when Tony gets the heart transplant... I dunno if I'll replace the points with something else. In a game-sense, that heart operation feels a lot like someone buying off a disadvantage, after all.

Silver Centurion... why did I think it was Silver Sphynx? ANYWAY... here's a link that might be of use to us all in keeping the armor straight:

Once again, really clever use of the disadvantage to define the effect. I think we get so used to defining power SFX that we forget we can do the same thing with Disads...

I'm working from this list on Advanced Iron (http://www.advancediron.com), mostly, as my standard. Look under armor specs. Figure there's about 21 Marks (not including minor upgrades) and about 10 specialty armors.
Lots of work ahead of me. :)
