Just saw Revised on the floor of my FLGS, about to be put out on the new game rack. Congratulations on the release. "World's Largest Dunegon" is no longer the biggest book in the game store.

Of course, having just got the 53Original, without having had a chance to play it yet, I'm not the target audience (especially what with me not being able to luck 90% of my game books to New Zealand when I move... )

Thanx!

WBD is actually significantly more pages than 5ER -- by several hundred, IIRC. It's just that it's printed on fancier paper, which may make it deceptively slender. Since I don't have one at hand, I can't measure 'em up.

Overall I like the book. The pages seem pretty tough despite their light weight. I notice that the pages are much less bright than the earlier books so I hope that the paper will age well.

The only gripe I can find is that I use fabric book covers on all my hardback game books. My cover does not like the way the frontispiece is attached to the book and has crinkled it a bit.

I noticed this too. I am a little worried that 5thR will be very yellow very quickly. But then I don't know much about paper so maybe I am worrying too much.

And it is an understatement to say that it is a bit bigger. 5th was already the thickest book in my RPG library and 5thRev is at least 25% thicker!

You have indeed constructed a RPG of incredible proportions.
You have my gratitude.

I'm merely waiting for my friend that sells at Cons to get me a copy, of course, knowing him that might not be for 2 months. He can be slow sometimes when he's not busy.

Hmmm... maybe I can use all those hands as material components for a necromancy spell.... ;)

Well I just got my copy...or I should say copies (2). Apparently when the online store was acting up, I ordered 2 instead of 1.
And I see that my questions to Steve about HA were addressed handily. Yay!

HERO 5th Edition Revised has finally made its way to the bottom of the world.

Today is Christmas.

I picked up my copy of 5ER (bblackmoor will be happy to hear that I've decided against calling it ReFREd) a few hours ago. I've been paging through it while watching my recording of the Earthsea mini-series. I'm enjoying both of them. Kudos to Steve and DoJ on the new book.

Finally! At last I can brag about having had 5ER for a week.
I gave my 3 players their surprise Christmas copies (yes, I bought 4 total) at our game last night.

We all like the new book. The darker paper doesn't bother any of us. The improved layout, examples, sample characters, and cross-referencing blew everybody away.
I expect it won't be long before my players know the game better than I do.

Thanks to Underground Games (Pineville, NC) for running the Christmas sale. Now our whole group can be on the same page.

Finally, I have it! It looks great, and I have to say the paper looks to be of pretty high quality, actually. Due to all the controversy about it I had a look through my book collection to see what the closest type of paper I could find was, and discovered that it's nearly identical in colour and texture to a 1969 edition of The Hobbit which I own. This book, despite being 35 years old, has pages which are still in pristine condition and are not in the least bit discoloured, not even at the edges. If 5ER's paper is as much like that paper as it seems to be, I have no qualms at all about its quality and durability.

H5ER made it to Canada already! Beauty, eh?

I picked a couple copies up at lunch today.

A multitude of THANKS to the whole HERO crew for getting it out in time for the holidays -- you guys rock some serious arse!

discoloration would be caused by the acid content of the paper. I have my copy of the phone book... uh revised. First glance it looks well worth the effort put in and the money getting paid out. well done. now if I can just get my d20 zombie friends as hooked on this as we are on World of Warcraft it will all be well... except for the lack of sleep etc.

At last, it's here in Western Canada! It's so very large, and my wife has been eyeing it with strange looks.

I feel...inadequate.

It's not the size, but what you do with it.

I'm using mine as a shield.

My copy arrived yesterday and, while I've not had a chance to read much, it really does look great and a considerable improvement on the original 5E version. In particular, my cursory glance revealed that the layout and art is much better.

The only thing I wasn't too sure about was the paper, which looked slightly yellow, but it felt...nice.

Great job.

I 've already teased Steve that the reason for the extra pages was because a .357 could still penetrate the old rule book.

Kidding aside, I really like the tabbing effect on the side. I haven't had a chance to review it in any real depth yet.

At least you HAVE the tome in question....

I hear that...hopefully, it has now arrived since my FLC&GS is having a "50% off everything" boxing day sale (and the owner practically wouldn't allowme to purchase the contents of my file last week - I'm under orders to leave everything until the Boxing Day sale).

One game book, one Archive Edition and the weekly comics run (plus whatever came in since the 15th).
