Hey all! I'm pleased as punch to announce that 5ER is officially all gone as of this afternoon. For those of you who don't have one yet, never fear- a reprint is already in the works. (It probably won't be available until mid-January, though.) There are, of course, still a bunch out in stores, but from all reports they're flying off the shelves so don't delay in getting yours! dw

All told, 23 days from ship drop. Of course, there was shipping, etc. in that time. We wound up preselling about 80% of the print run, which is pretty good for us but not a record. The other 20% went faster than anything since the original 5th has. dw

I realize this is probably a business issue that you can't comment on, but I hope the printer is giving you a sincere promise that the missing-pages and binding quality issues from the first print run won't be repeated in the second... :)

Yeah, it's come up. Fortunately, despite the prominence of the discussions here, it doesn't seem to be pervasive across the first run- the total number of actual claims we've gotten has been somewhat higher than average, but as a percentage of the run hasn't been completely out of hand or anything. That said, it's still too many, and we are definitely taking steps to try to stamp it out entirely. dw

Congratulations on selling the whole print run.
I'm not sure how to ask without igniting a flamewar, so I'll just ask, and hope that no one takes it as a declaration of war or anything (please don't):
Will the reprint have the same cover and paper as the first run?

Cool! It's a best seller! Now let's get the trade paperback version, and then start negotiating for the movie rights.
If it's not a trade secret or something, would you mind telling us how many copies made up the First Printing?

I have a couple of ideas for the Champions movie. The opening scene is a 70's swinging lovefest party at the mansion, with the Flaming Lips playing live music in the background. And for some reason, there's a Yeti walking around in a tuxedo asking if anyone has seen his alarm clock. And that was the more rational script. :D
Wait a minute, this isn't NGD...

I misread Flaming Lips as Flaming Lisp, and now have a character concept working out in my brain.

You'd better duck when he says his magic words, "Sassafras of Sisyphus"!
Whoops, there goes the neighbourhood.

So there is zero chance we'll see the high quality yellow squeaky paper exchanged for the cheap white silent paper? (yes I know this is a repeat question... maybe print run three??)
As much as I hate the grain of it, image is everything in marketing. The truth (HQ paper) is usually lost.

The choice is actually between "high quality yellow squeaky paper" and obscenely expensive bright white, lower quality (read survivability) silent paper.
Darren, Steve and Tina (IIRC) have mentioned time and again that this is the paper that is going to be used. Period.
So your premise is that people will choose not to play Hero and buy Hero products because the paper the main book is on is not bright white and thicker than a baby's arm? Puh-lease. I've seen roleplayers happy to buy a book that was 50 sheets of paper with a pink cover page (all regular 20# paper) and two staples along the left edge.
BBB, GURPS and countless others have run into printing, binding and production issues in books and each and every one of these games have survived (or, at least if they didn't survive it had little to do with production quality). CONTENT is what is important.

Ahh.. and it is so cold here today too... Thanks for the heat!
This is my sentence...

This is what you read...

So, where did all those extra words come from?
I'm thinking your own noggin.
Got conscience?
Get defensive much?

While checking for the absence of the older errata, I noticed some of Steve's all new errata in my copy. Serious question: Will some of the newer errata be corrected for the second printing?
Derek Hiemforth
Dec 23rd, '04, 07:49 PM
Errata is never corrected between printings. If you change the text, then it's no longer just another print run. It's a whole 'nother edition. It's just as expensive as making a completely new book.

Ah, well. I shall have to put a sticky note in my copy, informing players that Early Percussion Firearms is not a weapon group.Otherwise, my players have a tendency to be annoying with that kind of stuff... ;)

There are missing pages and binding issues with Fred Revised?
Well, I was just wondering what to spend some Christmas $$$ on. It will be Hero stuff that I don't have but I think I might wait on a new rulebook.

Please read the relevent posts carefully first. My binding is fine; there are no missing pages in anybody but one person's copy AFAIK. There is a lot of flak over a few people complaining about some very minor <I>perceived</i> flaws.
Some people don't like the darker paper. Some people have some oddness in the way their books open and close. Look at the book in the store. Open it and look through it. Then make your decision.

I always do. I am just a little shy about spending $50 on a rulebook that COULD do an imitation of my hardback BBB. :)

I am just a little shy about spending $50 on a rulebook that COULD do an imitation of my hardback BBB. :)While I haven't had any problems myself, and I don't foresee a problem on the scale of the infamous BBB disintegrations, you're probably just as well served to wait for one of the second printing batch (assuming you're not too anxious to get it). I'd expect the printers will be extra careful with that print run. ;)

No, Derek, I am not too anxious to get it. I have everything the book is going to give me already. I would be getting it to just keep current and give me an extra big book to go along with my three sidekicks.
