Not necessarily your favorite to read about, nor the one you believe is most powerful or efficient, but...
Which one would you most enjoy playing for a a few hours at a con or other gaming event?

I'd have to play Kinetik, with my best "Booker T" impression. Just think what sort of Presence attack could result form a superspeed Spinaroonie!

Ironclad. I like to play Bricks, plus I live in North Carolina. The original ironclad (the Monitor) is just off the coast.

I'd have to say Nighthawk, because then I could role play him getting a new costume. Preferably something drawn by Storn Cook. :D
After that, the low power, martial arts gadgeteer is just a fun type to play.

Going by my normal method of selecting characters at convention runs, I'd probably play whoever was left over after all the other players made their choices. Especicially since none of the Champions really stand out to me.

Looks Like you'd be playing Witchcraft then...
I'm surprised she's so unloved. I went with KinetiK, but only because I have an old char named Winter Warlock who is perilously close to Witchcraft (apart from being a bit more Focus-oriented; wand, cloak etc..)

I actually preferred Solitaire over Witchcraft. Love that widget!

Witchcraft. A VPP goes along way towards covering up other players' fuck ups. (Which is all I seem to do at cons.) :(

None of the above!
Although Karas Foxbat Idea might be neat.
Foxbat teams up with the Champions.........lol

Among those listed I chose Defender. I've always liked PA characters.

Hold it? I get to play, in a face to face game... as a PLAYER???
Well.. first I'd faint... by the time I awoke I'd probably be playing Witchcraft as she'd be the only one left judging by the votes.
But seriously, any of them could be fun.

I'd have to go with Witchcraft because of her brains and beauty...and resist the temptation to have her wag a crumply ball of tinfoil around, talking to it. "What's that, Widget? Timmy fell in the well?" Plus, her versatility is nice.

Nighthawk. The only one of 'em worth a damn. The rest can fade into obscurity:p

Wow, I spoke too soon. Witchcraft certainly gained ground.

I voted for Kinetik. I've been a fan of the Flash since, err, the middle Silver Age.
I can't say I am desperately surprised by Sapphire lagging so far behind the others. I could see her being played very well by the right kind of player, but "right kind of players" aren't tremendously common.
Fundamentally, Sapphire reads like a really unpleasant person to have around. Her theoretical attractiveness is offset by her bleah personality.
Getting this blend right could be quite a bit of fun. Unfortunately, "over the top super-bimbo" isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I voted for the grim crime fighter with gizmos and MA...I play characters like that all the time...when I'm not playing egotistical bufoons or wild eyed swashbucklers....

One has to wonder which Champion is Steve or Darren's favorites? Steve made the first five, but Darren was the one who created Kinetik, so el Presidante might be a bit biased for the speedster :D

None of the above. I don't play pre-gens, and I don't play other people's characters. Not if I have any choice in the matter.
And, quite frankly, at a con game, I'd have that choice - I could, and would, walk away.
(Sounds rather sharp and nasty, doesn't it? Not intended to be - just me being uncompromising. :-) )

Close tossup between Defender and Witchcraft here. I finally voted for Witchcraft because when (not if, when) the con game gets bizarre it's the Team Leader who's got to drag everyone kicking and screaming back to the plot, with of course some help from the GM, and a more agressive personality would work better in that position.

Good for you. I'm more comprimising nowadays. I actually got to play Witchcraft at a con in Stev Long's game. It was fun.
I'd rather play my own characters as well, but I see the gamemaster's delima. Dereck had some good posts about that. Myself, I provide pregens, but allow people to bring in their own.

You're a lemming: You're supposed to follow along with what everyone else wants :)
This is where I make a confession that is sure to elicit gasps from the assembled posters... I have never played at a con.
Yup. Though I consider myself a game geek of the highest order, someone who fell in love with a friend's copy of the Monster Manual and began a 20+ year relationship with gaming, designated artist for both long-term gaming groups to which I've belonged, and proud owner of 1e champions (which I used the heck out of)... I have avoided gaming cons.
I guess there's the possibility of next con... but perhaps I'm too old to learn new tricks now.

That's not the lemming aspect I represent. I represent the falling off sharp dropoffs, myth it may be.

They're not for everyone. They can be fun and sometimes they're fun to talk about later if you're ever into talking about lasting scars.

In con games, my choice of character is usually based much more on the character's personality. how much fun the personality would be to play, and how well I think I could portray the personality. Frankly, the abilities of a character are secondary in my choice. Of course, I usually try to pick con games that are based much more on roleplaying than on combat (not that the two are distinct, but you know what I mean).
As for pre-gens versus bringing your own characters in con games, I will always choose con games with pre-gens over the alternative. This is because I have almost no interest in playing in a generic adventure that has been designed to be played with any group of characters. I would much rather play in a game that has been designed specifically for the given group of characters.

I chose Defender ... Nighthawk's boring, Ironclad's okay (my second choice), being a 300 pound bearded guy in RL I couldn't play Sapphire right, I'd twink out with Witchcraft's VPPs ('Strength Aid on Ironclad') knowing me, and I just don't know Kinetik (I'm guessing he's in Champions Universe? I don't have that one).
I'm also a fairly good leader/tactician sort, assuming other players will listen to me ... hrm. Makes me tempted to start a thread.

Yup, Kinetik is in Champions Universe, a fairly cool character in his own right and also a fine homage to the Flash. He's not OFFICIALLY a member, but has been offered it. He may yet join up full time.
And go ahead, start a thread :)

Yeah, storn drew a cool picture of NH about to get his butt creamed by Green Dragon.
Go Green Dragon!
(GD is a major NPC in my current storyline, and I'm playing him as a veteran type, been around since the early '80s, and has matured from the rash, egotistical spas the write up indicates, and is instead a more focused, deadly, battle scarred type who is something of a mentor to some new, young martial artists.)

... and I've been to Origins a couple of times, but I've never played in Con games. People keep saying I should (and in fact, that I should run a Con game) but it never appealed to me. I can't imagine running a game that doesn't take into account the player personalities. Unless Con gamers are a lot more passive than the guys I know, I can't imagine getting anything done.

I voted for Kinetik.
After all, cool powerset. And the only real hometown hero.
And why is that a rebuilt Detroit- Millennium City not have at least one black member officially!!!! Geez, I would think the pressure on Kinetik to join from the population of Southfield (suburb where this artist lives and did not get destroyed by Deystroyer) alone would get him to accept the membership offer.
And with the largest arab population in the states, some groups the largest in the world (like the Caledians) besides their home country... why doesnt this fair, new "shining city on the hill" (ok, ok, next to the Detroit river, across from Windsor, not a hill) have an arab/muslim member on the team?
And shucks, Canada is closer than Chicago. A canuck should be on the team. Just think of the political bickering between Windsor and Michigan... great stuff to mine for roleplaying. "But mayor of Windsor, there just isn't much crime for me to fight here... M.C. needs my powers, I must go!"
Listen, I'm not talking political correctness here... I'm talking demographics. White folk like me are a minority in this town. But somehow, the champions ends up with a majority of caucasians.
(I dislike the alien Ironclad and Obsidian before him.... I would have much prefered an illegal alien trying to get a green card through joining the Champions... Ironclad could be mexican or Sudanese or something and be SO much more interesting).
On the one minority, Sapphire.... well, I married a Puerto Rican...I lived in Spanish Harlem for 2 years.... she just doesn't seem to be very hispanic to me on paper. Not an easy thing to capture I grant you.

Well, if I recall the time line in CU, Nighthawk was born in Detroit. So that's two local boys :)

Technically speaking, Ironclad is an illegal alien. At least, unless they sorted something out with the INS after he crash-landed (now *that* would make some good fanfic).
I get the sense that in the case of characters such as Kinetik and Sapphire, DOJ is trying hard not to give them the kind of treatment that Black Vulcan, El Dorado, Samurai and Apache Chief got on the Superfriends. They'll indicate the ethnicity and maybe stress whether it is or isn't a big deal in the character's mind (yes for Kinetik, not really for Sapphire), but they don't, for example, have Sapphire injecting first-year Spanish words into every other sentence. That said, Sapphire's flamboyant love of life isn't exactly incongruous with Latin culture; they may colour it lightly, but probably because so many predecessors tipped over the paint-pot.

Ironclad, since I likes the bricks. I might be willing to play Defender or Nighthawk if sufficiently bribed.
