Just what it says, sorta...
How many think they might have the time make a mod of an existing HERO creature/npc over the next say month? Should it be 2 months? Should we go with the idea of two categories, Painted Mods and Painted Minis? Just post your answers to the silly repetitive questionaire below and we can get this sucker rolling.
EDIT: Feel free to answer the questions even if you have no intention of ever entering. The goal is to customize the contest more for the HERO boards after all. :)
Questions:
1) Would you probably be able to enter the contest if it started in the next 2 weeks?
2) How long should the contest run?
3) Should we have more than one category?
4) What categories should we have?
5) Which would you enter?
6) Should there be a tighter theme other than "The subject matter must come from a HERO product"?

What about rules? Can you cobble something together from existing products(i.e. action figures, heroclix, etc) or do all parts have to be made by the contestants? Of course, I'm not sure how you would enforce such a rule...unless it was painfully obvious what someone had done.

Well, so far the rules will in general follow the ones for the first contest:

We're in the main, looking for figures that could be easily used on the tabletop. Though if you think an action figure sized category would work, suggest it. ;)

1. I'd be interested. However, I'd hate it if other people didn't want to enter because I was entering. :( If that was the case, I might recuse myself. Maybe volunteer as a judge? :)
2. 1 month or more. Give people time to get their mods finished.
3-4. Mod & Non-Mod seems good. If we get a ton of entries (you never know, it could happen!) we could divide it up...
5. Mod, if I entered.
6. I wouldn't think so. Anything published in a Hero-related book should work.

Questions:
1) Would you probably be able to enter the contest if it started in the next 2 weeks?
It would depend on how long it ran, I'd probably need a month.
2) How long should the contest run?
A month would be to my preference.
3) Should we have more than one category?
Atleast there should be a painted miniature and Mod category. Beyond that... I'm always happy to look at mods of any kind so if someone wanted to enter a action figure mod I have no problem. If there were several I'd prefer it had it's own category.
4) What categories should we have?
Mods
Un-modded painted minis
5) Which would you enter?
Mods, I alter almost everyything, If people wanted to enter both I'd have no problem.
6) Should there be a tighter theme other than "The subject matter must come from a HERO product"?
The open possibilties appeals to me but I only have the Full line of Champs and Star Hero. I might not recognize a really great Fanasy Hero piece.

1) Would you probably be able to enter the contest if it started in the next 2 weeks?
Yeh, probably. Just need an idea.
2) How long should the contest run?
Probably not more than a month. But I see no problem with extensions if there's either not enough submissions or more interest than expected.
3) Should we have more than one category?
I think one is fine.
4) What categories should we have?
If there were categories, it could be a male and a female mini. It could be by genre. It could be by 5th ed v. Other. It could be by percentage of figure changed (Someone just doing a paintjob and adding a weapon might be in a different category than someone who changed the head and hands and added a cape). Could be "best paint job", which a figure could win in addition to the "best mod", if it was just painted that darn well. But like I said, I think one category could be good enough.
5) Which would you enter?
Since I'm working on minis for an older adventure it would be any straight up "champions mod" or an "other than 5th edition" category.
6) Should there be a tighter theme other than "The subject matter must come from a HERO product"?[/QUOTE]
I don't see why. That's pretty much what we're angling at. Mind you, someone who painted a dwarf to look like a dwarf from a fantasy hero book drawing would not get my vote as much as someone who actually did some serious editing of a fig

Forgot to add, there could be a category for "context". I know some of you are talking dioramas. And in the last one Black Harlequin had his very cool toys in addition to the figure himself. Some of you do some extras with the bases.
Personally, other than the figure itself and *maybe* transplanting to a hexagonal base, I don't do that myself. But I like everyone else's work in that regard.

Answers:
1) Would you probably be able to enter the contest if it started in the next 2 weeks?
Yes, depending on the length of the contest (I work nutty hours, and was the cause for some of the extensions last time).
2) How long should the contest run?
More than a month - again, I'm a slow worker, and would love to enter.
3) Should we have more than one category?
It has been suggested in the past, but may complicate things. Some times KISS theory needs to be adhered to (Keep It Simple Stupid).
4) What categories should we have?
If there are other categories, I'd like to see something like Best Mod (for the ability to capture the physical likeness best), Best Painted (so guys like Bill can show off properly), Most Original or Most Unusual (to encourage selection of some of the mroe obscure Hero villains and heroes).
5) Which would you enter?
I think entries could be considered for each category, and that the category is one of award, not entry.
6) Should there be a tighter theme other than "The subject matter must come from a HERO product"?
I don't think so, unless you make a category distinct for Best Hero and Best Villain, which personally I don't think is necessary. The goal of the previous contest was just to encourage folks to try their miniature skills on the Hero line of products to see what we could come up with (given that there aren't any official Hero minis these days).
Just my two cents.

1) Yes
2) 30 days seems reasonable. I'd say all of April.
3) Maybe...more than one chance of winning may increase participation.
4) Hero, Villian, Team? Maybe a wildcard catergory of original characters.
5) Dr. D, the Crowns o' Krimm? I promised to mod 12 CU figs for someone so I'm sure I'll have a few to choose from.
6) Not with only 2 weeks notice. Most of us are gainfully employed and I for one do not relish explaining to the wife why I burned my vacation time painting "little men". If you have a "Foxbat at the beach" theme I'll need a month lead time.
I misread the thead title at first and thought this was about tenticle feelers. I don't think I'd be comfortable with a Hentai theme.

Hurm...
I'm gonna bump this and see if it gets some more responses. The earliest this will probably start is April at this rate. Run until May 1, and then be done. If the schedule changes too much beyond that, I'm going to have problems unfortunately.

I am interested, being new to the mod scene I think this will be a good showcase of my skills (or lack there-of)
1) Starting April 1st is fine with me.
2) To May 1st should be good IMO.
3) Just the 2 categories as stated above Mods and Minis.
4) see 3 above...
5) Mods certainly, maybe Minis too but that will be up to getting a sudden inspiration.
6) Being new to the HERO Universe alone (AND new to modding period) makes me say 'nay' to themes. Though, given enough interest there could be 2 categories with 2 sub-categories each. Themed Mods and Minis, un-Themed Mods and Minis... Perhaps that is too much...
Just a clarification on what is included in 'Hero' product. I take it you mean the books only, not websites and the like. I look forward to this! *rubs his hands together, eager to get started... then stops, frowns and begins scarping pennies together...* Hope I have enough to buy some Clix-fodder...

1) Would you probably be able to enter the contest if it started in the next 2 weeks?
No, need time to come up with CU figure idea.
2) How long should the contest run?
about 30-40 days
3) Should we have more than one category?
yes, atleast 2.
4) What categories should we have?
a) Best Male/Best Female.
b) Best Paint Job
c) Best Hero Best Villain
d) Best Mod.
5) Which would you enter?
not sure, but probably a) b) C)
6) Should there be a tighter theme other than "The subject matter must come from a HERO product"?
I would perfer to stick to Champions and Dark Champions as I am not that familiar with the other hero books and the characters in them, like Fantasy Hero and Star Hero.
If strickly Champions and Dark Champions I wouldn't limit it to any edition, Imagine an old Pile driver fig with the brick hand, or even the Raven from Hudson City.

I have a couple character ideas and may have the parts within the next week. Been looking through Night Raven's books for inspiration and may have found a couple do-able minis. Looks like I may be in the contest within 2 weeks or so. How are you guys doing? Any specific rules yet? Other than has to be an existing Hero character that is. Oh yeah, can we enter more than once?

Lack of scanner and limited funds puts me out of this.
Maybe later I can start modding figs from this line

So what's the verdict? Will there be another mod challenge?

I think I'm leaning pretty heavily towards "Yes!" with the proviso that I have to figure out some RL stuff (Life, place to live, buying a car...) first. Theoretically, that'll be sorted by May at the latest....
If it sorts earlier, I'll kick it off earlier. If it looks like I can get a good timeline figured out, I might start it a little earlier (Mid April perhaps?).
So that's about it update wise. ;)

I know the feeling Prod. I'm going to be in the same boat in a few months. Then also add in getting married, my fiance finishing her dissertation and graduating with her PhD, and a few other factors...
Take your time. :) Hope you get it sorted out well. :)
