Which of the following Champions character is your favorite?
I thought this had been asked before but search as I might I could not find the thread. I ask mainly out of curiosity it seems there has been a lot of talk lately about the old Champions compared to the new ones.
My poll, I get to vote first. My favorite is Solitaire.:)

Solitaire here as well, with nostalgia-value Seeker a comfortable 2nd and Jaguar 3rd.

Actually, Edsel, I'm not sure if a poll with 4th AND 5th options has been presented before. I'm going to have to think on this one.

Obsidian was the best character bar none. Even the "updated version" was cooler than anything.

Solitaire... definitely. Jaguar second.
Sol was a very effective character, and I like the blending of psi and magic. Very scary... perfect for an NPC.

The thunder from down under, Seeker!
Oh come on! You know it's more fun to do your croc-hunter impression during a game than anything!
"Ya see, tha trick is ta stay away from Grond's arms because that's how he traps his prey. If ya get cawt ya done for, mate."
I'd love to play him at a convention.

I, too, have thrown my hat into the ring for Solitaire. She had soul, she had a cool background that I could get into, and she had a pretty cool concept ("Widget") with a lot of story potential. (Since she got widget from the Vril Society, to whom was Widget loyal?)
I don't know: the 5th ed Champs lack... some je ne sais quois quality. It's hard for me to take Nighthawk seriously (I keep thinking of the chicken hawk from the Bugs Bunny cartoons due to both the name and the costume--sorry), Witchcraft lacks depth, Ironclad is such an obvious rip of Obsidian (although, in many ways, I prefer Ironclad--at least the Perseid Empire is a little more developed). The only two that I like from the new group is Sapphire (despite being a Hispanic stereotype) and Defender (gotta love the classics!).

My problem with Nighthawk is that he looks like he belongs in an episode of Battle of the Planets (or Gatchaman, if you prefer). I'd have preferred to see an updated Crusader in that slot, if you must have a brooding Dark Knight Detective character on your team.
I also voted for Solitaire as my favorite Champion. Obsidian is a very close second choice.

Solitaire is my hands down favorite. Jaguar is a second, and defender is a 3rd. Witchcraft is up there too, probaby 4th, right before obsidian.
Chickenhawk comes after Seeker, whose pretty low on my list.

Thinking on it, took awhile to decide... and this will likely change with time:
1) Defender- Both 4th and 5th editions were very cool. I like the 5th Edition touch of the destruction of Detroit being a catalyst for him becoming a super hero.
2) Solitaire- Darn it. I'm trying to get over the shy sexy lady, but I do miss her. Widget and all. The one 'flaw' in her by my thinking was the mix of Mystic/Mentalist was a bit much, but that's minor. I'd love to see her come back in 5th as a full mentalist.
3) Witchcraft- Redheads. I have a weakness. Her one flaw is she's too much like Solitaire in some ways, it makes her look like a purely mystic copy. However, on her own accord, she shines a lot more. We have the next possible arch-magi here, the story potiential in that alone is staggering! Please, Talisman is her evil Sister. I have a thing for evil sisters. ;)
4) Nighthawk- I look at this, and am surprised he's shot up so fast. He started out as my least favorite of the 5th Edition champions. I've been playing them as NPCs though, and I've come to realize, He's not as much of a Batman knock off as I thought. He's got a similar intensity, a frustration to him I enjoy. Weird, I know.
5) Ironclad- It's almost a tie with Obsidian, why does Ironclad win out? Well, a more developed background with hooks to certain villains. And the inner contrasts; Yes, he's a warrior, but he also went AWOL, he has an artistic side. He's not as simple as you think on first glance.
6) Obsidian- REAL close ... but Obsidian, for all his noblisse Oblige seemed lacking in leadership qualities. That aside though, the basic concept was kind of cool. Loved the star symbol on him.
7) Seeker- Sometimes I love him, sometimes he makes me groan. Over all, it's probably best he's not in the latest Champions crew. Seeker was trying to be too many things all at the same time. Ninja, swashbuckler, ladies man, philospher and bad a##, with the sad consequence of him often falling flat. When he did hit though, it was dead on.
8)Sapphire- A mutant without angst. That's my favorite part about her, which, in retrospect is why she's so far down the list. I sense a lot of potiential for development with her, but it feels like it would have to be forced more than any other. A shame really.
9)Quantum- "Lucy Van Pelt" aside, I never liked her. This woman was voted "Ms Anti-Morale of 91" and held the title for a decade.
10) Jaguar- I'm not as big a fan of the reluctant hero as some (Though I do love Spidey), and it seemed once you removed the struggle of 'oh, do I dare become the beast' both sides just lacked personality. I found him boring. Sorry to say it.

I voted Jaguar. I've always had a thing for lycanthropes, shapeshifters, and half-animal characters, so he had to get my vote. :)

Had to vote for Soli.
I likes me some Solitaire. Especailly the pic that Greg did for Ultimate Mentalist.
Rowr!
BTW, I've always wondered, how could Witchfire/Solitaire have the hots for Defender when he dismisses what they do and doesn't believe its what they call it.
"Oh, Magic. Right. Whatever crutch you need, dear."

As I stated before on the old boards, I created a character named Defender when I was seven or eight years old, so naturally I had a place already set in my heart for the original Defender and his 5th Ed. successor. The new armor suits him perfectly; I can't wait to see him throw a punch in it.
My least favorite would be Witchcraft--she seems like a watered-down, uninspired knock-off of Solitaire. I'd rather they built a character around Albert Deschesne's spellcastress drawing on pg. 192 of the FREDbook. She looks lke she could kick evil's heinie just by thinking about it.

Yawn.
Seeker, of course.
Just because he didn't have any resistant defences doesn't make him a bad character conception: it just means he was badly designed.
As for the swashbuckler thing: so he was trained by a ninja. It doesn't mean he considered himself to be one. Sheesh.
Personally, my main character these days is a grandkid of a member of the Australian WWII anti-ninja unit. It's just "commonsense" that the descendent of a member of such a unit could have any old powers you care to name. Sure, granddad was just a highly trained normal, but "obviously" he was exposed to anything you want to say he was. His descendants have any old powers you want to give them...
Anyway, the old Champions were almost, but not quite, as lame as the current lot. At least Seeker doesn't wear ruby slippers or a bird hat...

Had to vote for my mate, Seeker, but Soli comes a close second. I still think they make a great wandering couple, ever seeking the elusive Truth.
