I suspect I know what the answer will be, but I'm going to ask anyway.

In a few months I'm going to be leaving the shores of old England and heading for Kenya for a couple of years. What I take with me may well be limited.

What would Hero Games feel about me scanning my copy of 5ER (and possibly other Hero books) onto a laptop? The originals would remain in storage in the UK and would not be used while I was in Africa. The scans would not be distributed, or even printed out. It would just be a convenient way for me to take my favourite game to equatorial climes.

If, as I suspect, the answer is "No way, no how", I'll just do it the hard way and take the books instead of something else. Can't leave Hero behind...

I'd recommend buying the PDF version from the Online store instead.

If you're not distributing the scans to anybody else, then I can't see why we would care at all. Feel free. *Obligatory sales push*It seems to me like all the scanning would be a lot of work, especially compared to the cost of buying the book again as a PDF (either as a download or on CD.) */Obligatory sales push* But if it's worth it to you to do the work yourself (you already own a high-speed scanner or something), rock on. dw

Doh! I didn't even realise it was being sold as a PDF. Yes, that's definitely the way to go. I do have a high speed scanner, but even so, it would take hours to scan each page.

You own it, no one can tell you what to do with it. You just can not sell or give copies of it to other people. How you store the information is up to you.

Wow, I didn't realize 5th revised was available as a PDF!

I have a love/hate relationship with PDFs.

I love the fact that they are text searchable, they all fit on my laptop, and that I can often edit the text.

I hate the fact that almost every one I have ever seen is in the same multicolumn format that it was printed in, which requires repeatedly scrolling each page up and down in order to read it. Which KILLS the usability of them.

The only ones I have seen that are not like that are the text-only PDFs of the AD&D 2nd core rulebooks.

the pdf's are searchable. they are also locked you can not edit or copy and paste from them. Still an immensely useful thing to have handy. I have't tried to open one on my palm pda - yet.
