So you had to get a new version of XP even though it was already installed on your harddrive?

Sounds like he bought a whole new system.

I always BYO anymore. That way I've got original disks for everything, OS included. Anything goes out, and it's easy to replace (but actually, I've never had a problem, so knock on wood).

That's what I was told. New MoBo, new copy of XP. I would have loved to find another work around - but by the time it came to this, i was pretty desperate to get my machine back up and spending the $200 seemed like a better deal than being down another day while i argued/pled with Microsoft.

That's today's lesson in econ101 ... microsoft wins.
