Knew spin on the JLA heroes.

Batman : He looks like that monster from Marnau's Nosferatua. Tall, thin, dressed in black. Downright creepy. His bald somewhat misshapen pointed head, on his hunched up shoulders, this Batman is a real vampire. A strange unliving creature, a ghoul, who has amazing classic vampire powers, great strength, change to shadow, change to bat, hypnotism, invisible in shadows, control of shadows, and of course all the constraints : needs blood, vulnerability to daylight, holy signs, holy water, silver... He has vowed to fight evil in all it's forms to atone for his own damned soul.

Superman : Dr. Kent is a well known scientist who has patented a thousand inventions. He is a gadget man wearing his Super steel grip gloves, his Super x-ray goggles, his super jumping boots, his super cold wave blast gun, his super
(well the list is endless) to help stop crime.

Wonderwoman : She has the wonder touch as she calls it. WW is simply a miracle worker. She's able to fix most anything with her but a touch, from a broken heart to a nuclear reactor melting down. She is a healer. Somewhat innocent perhaps but incredibly powerful. She can see the future and past, cosmic stuff.

Aquaman : Aquaman was once an engineer working in a high-tech underwater nuclear facility when an incredible accident transformed him into a living liquid monstrosity. Instead of losing his humanity he actually became one of humakind's most ardent defenders. He has weird powers, and when near water is simply one of the strongest creatures on earth.

The Martian Manhunter : A team of Finnish scientist found him in a glacier. A perfectly preserved 4 foot tall green Martian. He was equipped with a series of strange weapons (what looked like a spoon with worms all over it, a small silver egg, a bizarre looking gun, a jet pack...) he said his name was J'onn. He was slightly shocked when they told him the date, he had been trapped in ice for the last 50,000 years. He said Martians used to come over to earth all the time to hunt their favorite game, wild man. Now however he laconically notes that man has somewhat evolved to a higher more developed species. Since he is stuck here he has shown benevolence and has decided to help humanity instead of hunting it, all though his first highly publicized interviews will always haunt him and the name Manhunter is stuck to him whether he likes it or not.

The Flash : Wilma West was a photo journalist working on a scope. Dr. Engles an old acquaintance had just perfected an amazing camera which could photograph souls, no less. As the Dr. Was giving a demonstration to a handful of journalist the doors to his lab burst open, in walked several highly trained ghost men! They wanted the camera! The scene broke out into confusion and somehow Jenny ended up with the camera and running for her life. She eventually understood some of the fundamental workings of the camera and managed to stop the ghost guys. The powerful camera has a high array of strange powers, from telepathic imprints to stealing powers! Shrinking targets (and powers) teleportation into camera netherworld, besides a dazzling flash, or energy blast from the camera's phantom zone.

Green Lantern : A strange guide, and kung fu master, leading people to enlightenment and knowledge with his magic green lantern. An old looking chinese lantern attached to a long pole.

Plastic Man : bizarre 8 foot tall android made from indestructible rigid red plastic.

Timeline

The 40's
Justice League members : Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman

The Batman was first seen during WWII as a terrifying figure helping the allies while thwarting the Germans, mostly in eastern Europe. Due to his condition he made little contact with those he helped and it remained very unclear why this bizarre creature was aiding the allies. Dr. Kent, was already a known crime fighter affectionately called Superman by the public, due to his outlandish "super gadgets", had volunteered for the army. His goal was to use the army's structure and resources to help perfect and massively produce his better known gadgets for the war effort. His gadgets, which although brilliant proved just too expensive to mass produce. After several prototypes of some of his best "trademark" inventions ( the super steel grip gloves, the super "bouncing" boots, super bullet proof vest, latter to become a shirt,) the program was canceled. He was however in top physical condition and eventually volunteered to train as a special solo operative with his gear. During these covert missions he not only approached but became good friends with the estranged creature frighteningly known as the Batman.
During one of the wars worst battles, a young English nurse was suddenly "touched" as she later put it. She was healing the wounded just by touching them. She could also see things, important movements beyond time, hear snatches of conversation from the enemy (and understand them!). Dr Kent, hearing of the girl's amazing powers managed to recruit her for his small coverts team. Dubbed Wonder Woman, the young nurse at first reticent to work alongside the strange vampiric creature quickly overcame her doubts when she witnessed the Batman's humanity and strong character again and again. She wanted so badly to heal the poor fellow, but her touch had no effect on the creature. The Batman calmly told her it must be the price he had to pay for an unspeakable past. It was in this way that the young woman secretly fell in love with the misbegotten creature. Dr. Kent ever in his books, tools and plans saw none of this of course. And the three fought and won many battles for the allies. Thus was born the Justice League.

The 50's
Justice League Roster : Superman, Auqaman, Martian Manhunter, Batman,
Honorary Members : Wonder Woman II

After the war, there alliance came to an end. Wonder Woman confessed her love to the creature, he loved her too but couldn't bring himself to "soil that good lady" as he later explained to Dr. Kent before simply vanishing into the night. Wonder Woman was crushed. She decided to give up being a hero and went back to England to her family and her old life. Dr. Kent more laconic then ever wished her the best, packed his super gear in 15 huge trunks and headed for the states to continue his research and fight against crime. One of the very first things to happen was his chance meeting Dr. Author Mann. A brilliant young engineer working in the use of hydrogen in atomics. Unfortunately for the man a freak accident transformed him into a sentient being composed entirely of living liquid. Somehow the young man retained his sanity as well as his humanity. He quickly became an obvious replacement for Superman's late team mates. Auqaman was born. For the next few years the partners cleaned up crime in several cities, stopped a couple of alien invasions, and curbed several natural disasters. It was at this time that the Newly found Martian Manhunter, with his strange alien customs and stature, not to mention weapons, confronted the two heroes. A huge battle ensued and for once Superman and Aquaman were hard put to defeat the petit bonhomme, he was that tough! Yet somehow they finally realized that they had made a mistake, the Manhunter was trying to help humans, not hunt them anymore. Dr Kent lauded the Manhunter's strange yet effective gear and the two quickly became fast friends. The MM decided the best way to help the human race was to work with the two heroes, thus the Second Justice League was born. It was about this time that the strange creature Batman surprised them in the night bringing ominous news about a cove of witches and a vampire plague getting all out of control in New England. When the mission was successfully completed Dr Kent actually managed to "cure" the Batman for a spell. He was human again, after hundreds of years! He wasted no time in trying to find the nurse he once loved. Alas she was already married with two kids living peacefully in England, once more she had lost her Wonder powers. It seemed once she was back from the war and living a "normal" life, the powers quickly faded away. They learned however that the wonder power seemed to be on the Reds side, a young farm girl living in Siberia. The cold war. Sometimes she fought with the League (world threatening events) most of the time against, The Specials (communist super group).

The 60's
Justice League Roster : Super Man II, Batman, Auqaman, Martian Manhunter, The Flash,
Honorary Members : Wonder Woman II, Dr. Clark Kent

Bruce Wayne's health was rapidly deteriorating and there was only one solution. He must return to his former state as the Batman. Dr. Kent inoculated him with the bad blood, the transformation occured and he was once again a creature of the night, stronger and more powerful then ever. Dr. Kent however was starting to get a little old. He was in his mid fifties and actively looking for a replacement, besides he likeed the family life (remember Lois, they have a girl, Kara). He finds a young athletic man named Jimmy Olsen to take his place...
Through the sixties there are confrontations with many supervillans, who have formed groups to combat the League. There are huge monsters and strange ghost men. They are sometimes hard pressed. They find an unexpected new member with Jimmy Olsen's young photographer friend. Calling herself the Flash, Wilma West becomes a very much needed "bizarre and psychic power" of the team. She will spend the next decade trying to figure out what her special camera can actually do.
The team was solid and saving lives, respected the world over, even Wonder Woman (the Russian one) came more often on several occasions, then America went to war again in Vietnam. There was an inherent split as to how the group should handle the war, go in on missions or stay at home. The old guard : Batman, Dr. Kent, Aquaman voted to work as much as possible with the army, the new members : Olsen and Wilma refused to be a part of it. The Martian Manhunter wished to stay uninvolved in a war, but he was an honorary American citizen so he would go if the majority voted yes. It was a tough time for the group and it looked like there would be an eventual split. Wilma decided she would go, but only as a news correspondent taking pictures (and saving lives) with her fantastic camera, also it would allow her to be close to Olsen who absolutely didn't want to give up the Superman gear. The two were married.

The 70's
Justice League Roster : Super Woman, Batman, Auqaman, Martian Manhunter, The Flash, Wonder Woman III, The Green Lantern,
Honorary Members : Dr. Clark Kent

The war eventual wound down and there were scars and wounds that needed mending, especially hearts, Jimmy Olsen, died while trying to save a village from a friendly fire attack. Wilma instead of blaming her elders on the team became a silent driving force for the League. She was also pregnant.
It's a sad time for the League, a time to rebuild and move on. Kara, Dr. Kent's girl, now in her very early twenties takes her father's gear to everyone's astonishment. She names herself Superwoman. Another surprise, they find the wonder power endowed to a slightly spaced out antiwar activist in San Francisco. Although the old guard is opposed, they make her a part of the team. They find much of their work they spent thirty years building has toppled in the time they spent in the war. Several of their arch foes are loose again, and many local heroes couldn't keep up with the increase in supercrime. The seventies keep the League very busy. They find themselves fighting not only local crime but uncovering plots on a worldwide scale.
Wilma West has her baby a little boy named Alan. She decides to retire from the team. She is replaced by a mysterious wandering kung fu master, the Green Lantern, who escaped communist China. Although he is wise and spiritually learned, (he can do amazing Zen tricks like levitation, stop his heart rate, incapacitate opponents with the slightest touch etc...) he is still very lost in the Western World. Wonder Woman, with her "far-out" ideas and fascination with anything eastern and spiritual takes to him instantly. The two make an ideal if somewhat disconnected couple. Meanwhile, Kara falls in love with a well known rock guitarist : Dick Grayson (from the band the Robins). They are married, and soon Clark (named after Kara's father) is born.

The 80's
Justice League Roster : Super Woman, Batman, Auqaman, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman III, The Green Lantern, Plastic Man
Honorary Members : The Flash, Dr. Clark Kent

The eighties find the League battling mostly supervillians and otherworldly menaces, like the Martian Manhunter's own people who have evolved during the last 50,000 years into degenerate war mongers. Wilma West still an honorary member makes several appearances. There are three critical events towards the end of the eighties. The team battle a super android constructed by one of their arch foes. An eight foot tall ridged yet powerful Plastic Man, made from near indestructible red colored plastic. Luckily old Dr Kent finds a way to reprogram the unstoppable machine, thwarting the villain and gaining a new member in the process. Also Wonder Woman, now pregnant, slowly begins to loose her powers. The Batman, ever a mysterious figure vanishes without a trace from the team.

The 90's
Justice League Roster : Super Woman, Auqaman, Martian Manhunter, The Green Lantern, Plastic Man
Honorary Members : The Flash, Dr. Clark Kent, Wonder Woman III (sans powers)

The Justice League find themselves battling cosmically spawned Demi gods, as well as globally organized crime. The team have near legendary status and the very mention of the League's name strikes fear in most villains and crime lords throughout the world. They help in the Gulf War, although at this time Wonder Woman is without powers, she stays an active part of the team, doing research and helping at the base of operations. She and The Green Lantern have twins. The Plastic Man continues to learn what it is like to be "human". Tragedy strikes the Kent family however towards the end of the nineties. The League's arch foe : Lex Luthor, a one time astronaut endowed with amazing cosmically spawned powers kills SuperWoman and "scatters" Auqaman crippling him in a colossal battle.

2000
Justice League Roster : Superman III, Batman, Wonder Woman IV, Auqaman, Martian Manhunter, The Green Lantern, Plastic Man, The Flash II
Honorary Members : Dr. Clark Kent, Wonder Woman III (sans powers)

With the millenium comes changes, first a young Mexican Nun contacts the Justice League. She is endowed with a pumped up version of the Wonder Power. She first heals Auqaman bringing him back to full power. Next she guides the team on a quest to find the Batman and stop a coming Apocalypse. Along on the trip to complete the team are two of it's youngest members : Alan West (the new Flash) and Clark Kent (the new Super Man). This new Wonder Woman leads the League to England where they find the Batman's crypt. They revive the Batman who had been killed (stake through the heart). Also Wonder Woman guides the team in order to fight a host of demons and other foul monsters due to a dimensional breach with hell itself. Wonder Woman in her purity confronts Satan. The team seal the breach thus saving the planet, reality and billions of souls!!!! Both Clark and Alan are head over heels in love with the young beautiful Mexican Nun!!!!
Now the team is back in America with it's full lineup and strength : The Batman, Auqaman, The Martian Manhunter, The Green Lantern, Plastic Man, SuperMan (III) The Flash (II), and Wonder Woman(IV) - The Justice League of the New Millenium!

Haven't read the history or the writeups yet, but the basic character ideas are an interesting different take.

Cool ideas. Some are better than the Tangent line of comics that came out about 5-10 years back.

Thanks, I'm still writing them up, I have some of the power structures and stats but i've given up trying to make it work out point wise. I'll try to post them soon.

Nucleon thinks that the Martian Manhunter' revised origin -and appearance- is a lot better than the original. What a confused character, that MH.

On the other hand, He thinks the new Superman has a little bit of déja-vu.

This looks like a great campaign.

Wonderwoman : She has the wonder touch

I'll bet she does...

All kidding aside, this is a great idea. Dovetailing new creations off of such well known names is an amazing challenge. Very well done.

Hawkman: A British flying ace had just dispatched a few Fokkers over Normandy when his plane was struck by an experimental Nazi weapon, the magneto-cannon. He was tossed around but recovered and escaped. The cannon exploded and the Nazis subsequently abandoned the project; but it had given the pilot strange magnetic powers. Now he can magnetically control his fighter plane, and any aircraft, with an impossible degree of maneuverability. Enemy fire is flung aside by his magnetic field, while he can bring down other planes with a wave of his hand. More astonishingly, he wears a harness with steel plates on the front and back, that allows him to fly via magnetic force without need of an aircraft.

hi again
had an idea for hawkman,
he's an american native who has trained a score of hawks, he is a hunter, normal athletic human but it's his hawks that might have crazy gadgets or strange yet belevable powers. Remember, this concept is to totally add a new spin on these heroes so a guy with wings is not going to work. Otherwise I was thinking hawkman (as in hawking a luggi) but i'm trying to be at least half serious with this concept. Now for write ups

What about "The Flash" ? I assume he is NOT a guy in a trenchcoat ! Hmm! Barry Allen, police photographer, is struck by lightning while photographing a crime scene. He gains the power to generate a bright flash of light or sound and can teleport short distances (only to places that he can see)

st barbara
Mar 12th, '06, 09:28 PM
Oh you did "The Flash", a better version than I came up with. Hmm, have to think of another "JL" character ! Sorry

st barbara
Mar 12th, '06, 09:38 PM
Okay How about "The Huntress". Helena Wayne was born in Africa to anthropologist parents and grew up with the native people and the animals there. When she was sixteen her parents were murdered by poachers and she was taken in by a local tribal shaman. She burned for revenge and two years later, in a secret ceremony, she was imbued with the power of the animals that she grew up with. She can run as fast as a cheetah, leap like a gazelle, has the strrenth of a lioness and can track anything that moves as well as see in the dark. Now she has returned to her home town, to hunt those who would break the law and endanger the lives of innocents !

Remember, this concept is to totally add a new spin on these heroes so a guy with wings is not going to work.I disagree. A guy with artificial wings and an anti-gravity belt shouldn't work, but real wings could, in my opinion.

Carter Hall and his wife Sheera were in Greece on an archaeological dig. They had uncovered the sight of a battle and it was one that the history books never mentioned. This could possibly be the greatest find of their time if the Greeks.

Carter and Sheera spent that night on the town touring the city they were in. After a few too many drinks, they realized they were lost. They tried finding a familiar building but it was not to be. The people following the Halls used this to their advantage and abducted them, rendering them unconscious while doing so.

When Carter and Sheera came to, they were both strapped naked inside separate cages hanging from the ceiling of the cave they were in. The sorcerer below them cackled as he performed a ritual to change these two into his servants, but ones straight out of Greek mythology itself. With them under his control, he would eliminate his fellow rivals and increase his standings and profit from DEMON.

The ritual worked for the most part, changing the Halls into what looked like harpies: large wings, clawed hands, feathered legs ending in taloned feet. The part that didn't work was Carter and Sheera being his slaves; their wills were their own. Their strength had been increased greatly and they easily broke free from their cages.

In a nearly bloodlust rage, Sheera swooped down and tore asunder the sorcer with her claws, Carter right behind her, unable to control his anger. In less than a minute the sorcerer was dead, shredded into smaller parts. Once he was dead, their bloodlust went away.

The Halls discovered that the sorcerer's death did not let them revert back to normal. Nothing probably would. Not wanting to give the sorcerer any sort of victory, the Halls called themselves Hawkman and Hawkwoman. They have since been hunting down evil mystics, earning the wrath of DEMON after destroying several meeting locations. Friendly mystics have learned to steer clear of them, as Hawkman and Hawkwoman have an innate ability to detect magic, which usually drives them into a rage. Usually.

You origin is very coll but what I was trying to do was put a new spin on the character based on the name, The real JLA hawkman already has wings and looks like a hawk , so I was trying to make my guy totally different while being true top the name, hence Hawkman, a normal person with trained hawks, I know it doesn't sound glamorous but I think I prefer this concept for this group, thanks anyway or if you like you could make your own JLA rip off group like I did :)

Wow, did I write that badly:doi:
sorry Kirby please forgive me. Did you make up your new spin JLA? I'd like to see it. Thanks for the input.
I had an idea for GREEN ARROW, a pilote driving the Green Arrow experimental motorcycle. Like a speed racer type character. Here's the recap:

Batman : Monster, vampire

Superman : Gadgeteer, super bouncing boots, super grip gloves, super xray goggles, super laser gun, super cold wave bazooka, etc...

Wonder Woman : Strange cosmic and mystical powers (like the Specter)

The Flash : Experimental camera with various powers, drains, flashes, teleports, images, etc...

The Martian ManHunter : 4ft green martian with funky 50's style gadgets

Auqaman : man made of water, ec water control, probably the most powerful super when near large amounts of water

Plastic Man an 8ft tall robot made of indestructible red plastic

Hawkman : an American Native hunter with a score of trained hawks

Green Arrow : a young pilote from Germany testing the experimental Green Arrow motorcycle

ok now on to my IX MEN PROJECT...

Nah, dude, nothing to forgive, I was being silly on that part. :) Sorry I didn't make it clearer. :o

Did you make up your new spin JLA? I'd like to see it.
Well, I could make the basics of characters, but I'm too lazy to write them up just for the heck of it (though I may be tempted to add them into my CU campaign later).

I already did Hawkman/Hawkwoman, here are some others (with much less detail):

Instead of Green Arrow, how about Green Eros - Creates jealous lovers.

Green Lantern - Either an Irish-themed pub, or the actual HQ.

Wonder Woman - Mentalist; powerful Mind Scan and Telepathy.

Batman - (villain) Scientist who attaches small, incendiary devices to bats. Drops them from 'bomb cages' in the daytime so that they'll fly into homes and try to sleep until night. Incendiary devices go off after 30-60 minutes, killing the bats and catching homes and buildings on fire. (Actual WW2 concept.)

Flash - Detective with photographic memory and the ability to teleport. Instead of in a 'bampf' he's gone in a 'flash.'

Superman - a clone of Telios. Was used to attempt certain actions Telios didn't wish to risk, but was sure he would be able to complete; Wonder Woman managed to give him free will. He has become a good guy and hopes to right all wrongs done by Telios.

The Atom - can change lead into gold! Actually has the Transform, Major power, able to change anything into anything else. (Put him in the military and call him Captain Atom.) Second possibility, he changes anything into basic elements (not compounds), so he might change a brick wall into helium, or perhaps he breaks compounds down into their elements (water into hydrogen and oxygen) as well as able to stabalize radioactive elements.

Plastic Man - celebrity known for his numerous "cosmetic surgery enhancements." Due to upsetting Dr. Fate, he's been changed into a person who's unable to display his emotions, as well as having eternal youth. Pays for all purchases via credit card.

Aquaman - grown up version of the water boy. Decided to stick with the team instead of going to college. Now, he gets the team refreshments when they return from outings.

Dr. Fate - Has retrocognition. Any time something good or bad happens to someone around him, he has the ability to explain "this is what you get for..." and relate it to something in their past. He loves to quote sayings.

Martian Manhunter. - John Jones is determined to prove that aliens really exist. He uses his great detective skills to find evidence of the secret alien invasion, and since he has no powers just phenomimal luck (avoiding getting hurt), he has enlisted the Justice League to help him. (His version.)

Hey these are really funny. I really like the Idea of the HQ being an Irish Pub. I also really like the Atom's power he would be the heavywieght of the team. I'm not sure who Telios is, can you give me more info?

I'm not sure who Telios is, can you give me more info?Telios is "The Perfect Man" (self-titled). His stats from STR to COM are 30, with an INT of 50. He's the background master villain who is responsible for creating tons of clones and genetically manipulating many creatures to create super-monsters. He has about 75 pts worth of skills and is based off 763 points. You can find him in Champions Universe (not to be confused with Champions like I did when starting 5E) detailed on p.134 and extra info on him going through 138.

As an aside, his background states his clones have been purchased by Eurostar, ARGENT, VIPER, and Emperor Palpatine. Okay, maybe not Emperor Palpatine.

My versions:

Superman: A medical geneticist who was working on transgenics when a group of neo-Nazis, offended by his gross tainting of the purity of humanity, broke in and injected him with all of the formulae. He now has the powers of multiple animals, and calls himself Superman just to tweak his nose at the neo-Nazis' quasi-Nietchean philosophies.

Batman: A zoologist who grew up with an unusual affinity for bats. He can communicate with them, call them, and to a degree even control them. He has extended-range hearing, and his costume gives him minor bat-like abilities such as gliding (to simulate flight).

Robin the Boy Wonder: The youngest person ever to win an Olympic gold medal in archery, Robin went on to become a famous circus performer using a variety of trick arrows. (This goes back to Robin's conceptual origin, with Robin Hood.)

Wonder Woman: The world's most successful woman, she's reached the pinnacle in not only the business world but also in numerous intellectual and athletic pursuits, including several martial arts. (Think a female "Mr. Terrific.")

The Flash: A martial artist who following a lightning strike at a nuclear waste dump, can teleport himself to any location he can see, -- an ability accompanied by a blinding flash of light at the starting point.

Green Lantern: A mysterious man who walks the city's back streets, dressed in green Victorian-era clothing and carrying what looks like a green gas lantern -- which is actually a mystical device with a variety of powers.

Firestorm: A firefighter who was rescuing two kids from inside a burning chemical factory when an explosion gave him the ability to generate and absorb flame.

Sgt. Rock: A retired Marine drill sergeant whose body was transmuted to a rock-like substance after exposure to a mysterious glowing meteorite.

Just jump in and start tinkering. Eventually, you figure out what each of the Portuguese words mean (more-or-less) and all you really need to know is stuff like where the feet are or how to add color and shading to your selections. After that, all you need to know is how to use a screen capture to save the image and how to use MSPaint Or another graphics program to alter the image.

You also might want to view Fabrique du Herois with Babelfish (http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_url?doit=done&tt=url&intl=1&fr=bf-home&trurl=http%3A%2F%2Ffabricadeherois.blogspot.com%2F&lp=en_pt&btnTrUrl=Translate) and look at this other thread featuring characters people are creating with that utility. (http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64971) There's a lot of useful information to be found on how to use it, and loads of examples of what you can do with it.

Green Lantern of Earth

The Green Lanterns of this particular universe have a variety of powers that vary from one to the next according to disposition and native understanding of the nature of the power source. All green lanterns can fly in space, travelling from planet to planet, however the Green Lantern of Earth is the most powerful Green Lantern in the history of the corps. While he does not have a conscious understanding of the lantern he carries (disguised as a belt buckle) his subconscious mind seems to have an affinity for the eldritch energy provided by the ring. As a result, he is empowered with a comprehensive suite of powers that include super strength, super endurance, super durability, the ability to survive in extreme environments without permanent harm, etc. If someone else didn't already use the name, he might have called himself "Superman".

Barbara Wayne was eight years old when a man tried to lure herself and a friend into his car. Barbara ran away, but her friend didn't. She was the last one to see her. Barbara was overwhelmed with survivor's guilt. With the help of counselling, she was able to recover, but she vowed to become a force against evil when she grew up. It's now twenty-five years later, and Barbara Wayne is "just another air-headed heiress" doing the club circuit, or at least that's what the public believes. In reality she has become the dark avenger of the night: The Batwoman. Using a combination of intelligence, skills, physical prowess, and equipment, Batwoman wages a never-ending battle against the forces of evil.

Biff and Barf: Man's best friend and his pet.

Biff Rhawh'ch-h was a scientist and explorer from a distant Galaxy. His experimental spaceship's hyperwarp drive was operating perfectly when it struck an umapped section of tanglespace, throwing him wildly off course. When he finally managed to drop the vessel back into N-space, he discovered he was so far from home that no navigational beacons could be detected. He set a course for the nearest Galaxy and, using the ship's probability predictors, located the planet most likely to be similar to home in this galaxy. Upon arrival, he discovered, much to his amusement, that the primary sapient species closely resembled the creatures his kind kept for pets. He was less amused to discover that the creatures kept by these "humans" as pets closely resembled his species! Once he landed, he found himself the object of much interest from the humans, who captured his pet Barf and incarcerated it, all the while ignoring the "dog" in their midst. Only Green Lantern and the Batwoman seemed to be able to understand his early attempts at speech. When they realized the "captured alien pilot" was in reality a household pet, and the canine struggling to speak with them was the real pilot, they decided to help him retrieve his pet and recover his craft. Soon after he got Barf back, Biff left Earth to explore this Galaxy.

Months later, he returned to Earth with a warning of impending invasion. Contacting Green Lantern and Batwoman, they gathered Earth's mightiest heroes to defend their planet. Once the battle was won, Biff realized he was kind of fond of these humans, and that he and Barf might as well make their temporary home on this planet as any other -- at least until Biff can find a way to plot a course home.

Biff and Barf are not so much master and slave as owner and pet. Biff is a genius inventor of supra-human ability, having designed and built (with Barf's assistance) his own spacecraft, which some humans have dubbed "the C-57d" due to its resemblance to a fictional craft from some human entertainment or another. Biff is also something of a mentalist, though he's still learning how to affect and connect with human minds. Barf is a second set of eyes and ears for Biff, who maintains a low-level telepathic link with him. Barf seems human, but only possesses animal intelligence. Barfkind were bred to serve Biffkind since they have superior manual dexterity and eyesight (compared to biffkind) plus they are taller and can see over obstructions better.

Mhar-Vann Mhar-Tschian
Pronounced "Marvin Martian"

Earth seemed like a ripe fruit ready to be plucked by the Mhar-Tschian empire, a bluegreen prize ready for assimilation. The people of the planet had only progressed to atomic weaponry, projectile weapons, and primitive rocketry and should have been push-overs. They weren't.

When the order to retreat came, Mhar-Vann's teleporter belt malfunctioned, leaving him stranded on this primitive planet. As a prisoner of war, he learned that although technologically and socially primitive, the Earthlings were a kind and gentle people. When the war was over, Mhar-Vann's people refused to acknowledge that any one of them could have possibly been captured. When the humans offered to repatriate Mhar-Vann, they were told that there must be some sort of mistake as all of the invading forces had been accounted for.

Mhar-Vann was stranded for good. Since he was to remain on Earth, he asked to become a member of the "Earth Defense Force" that had so easily halted the invasion. When told that there was no such group, that an ad-hoc coalition of superbeings had come together spontaneously to help defend Earth, he insisted that he be taken to their leader (which to his dismay seemed to amuse them almost as much as his name had when he had been captured). He explained that it might be a good idea to find these superbeings and form a permanent organization to help defend the planet. Mhar-Vann realized that his new home might be vulnerable to further incursions and he would rather be ready to defend his new home than not. With the assistance of Biff and Barf, Mhar-Vann managed to pull together the core team of the American Justice Squad.

More to come!

Superman

The Greek gods awoke one morning to find that, during their drunken debauch, they had lost track of several millennia. That Bacchus really knew how to throw one! Upon viewing the World of Men from their pocket-dimension of Olympus, they discovered that mankind had largely forgotten them. Not only that, but many humans had luxuries and conveniences that made all the gods wonder if they had become obsolete?

Finally, one god spoke: "Well, I've been right all along! the People have been pursuing knowledge and now they rival us. You all laughed at old Hephaestus when he started building forges and making artifices. Now look at man! They rival all the gods but one: Me!"

Zeus spoke: "Have a care, Hephaestus! You are still the weakest of the gods. I'd hurl a thunderbolt at you but right now I don't think My poor head can take it!"

Ares: "Have you seen their weapons? They shoot thunderbolts tipped with little suns to destroy their enemies! I think Hephaestus is right, at least so far as might is concerned. Any one of us could crush one of these people like a grape but then they might send their thunderbolts against us, and then we'd share the fate of the titans!"

Athena: "I have noticed that they have many champions who right wrongs and mete justice. I propose we send an emmissary among them to let them know we still live and crave their attention."

Zeus: "And I suppose you would suggest yourself for the task? Daughter, If I have learned anything I have learned not to trust an Olympian any farther than I can hurl a thunderbolt!"

Hephaestus: "Might I make a suggestion?"

The other gods remained silent. As much as they teased lame Hephaestus they really did like him, even if he was an old stick-in-the-mud.

"I propose to make an artificial man in my forge who we can send in our stead."

"So he would be your agent?" interjected Hera.

"Hear me out. Each of us could grant this homunculus a portion of our power. Athena her wisdom, Heracles his strength, Hermes' fleetness, Apollo's fierce heat, and so forth."

The gods were boggled by the prospect. Finally Zeus spoke. "All right, we'll do it only under the following condition: we'll get the fates to measure the abilities we give this new being so that no one of us is over-represented. The People will have an avatar of the Olympians once more. Hephaestus? Get on it right now. Meanwhile, has anyone seen Chiron? I need something to settle My stomach."

Shortly thereafter, a lone stranger appeared out of nowhere. Claiming to represent the gods of the ancient Greek Pantheon, this Superman aids humanity and spreads the news that Olympus still lives.

Russel "Rusty" Stover was a genetic engineer for a large biotechnology company. He had been assigned the task of designing hypothetical "designer genes" to enhance human performance, "purely for the scientific value". Happy to be given an opportunity to show his skills on such a difficult task, Rusty quickly came up with formulae which would enhance the speed at which nerve impulses could travel, the power and speed of muscle cells, and the efficiency of the metabolism, and the ability to use oxygen and process fatigue poisons.

Less than a month after he'd been given the assignment, he presented his results to his supervisor, and was surprised to find himself being ordered to turn over his notes and any samples he may have made. The government had gotten wind of his project and it had been classified out of his hands. At least that's what he had been told. In fact, his superior's superior had ordered these formulae as a "side Job" from Intercrime.

Shortly thereafter Rusty was fired for wasting corporate time and money on his "pet project". His former supervisors told a tale of a man who ignored their commands to produce a more nutritious variety of potato in order to pursue his own "crackpot" theories. Rusty knew now that he had been set up. Working at home, he was able to reconstitute his formulae and was preparing to take these new samples to the head of the corporation to insist his former supervisor be fired when his house exploded.

Two mysterious men watched from more than a mile away. "Oh, too bad! It looks like the perfessor had a gas leak!"

"Yeah, maybe he shood'na have lighted a match, huh?"

The two men laughed, got into their car and drove away.

The explosion shattered the containers of formula and made a fine aerosol mist of them, propelling the mist right into Rusty's skin. Time literally froze. At that moment, the trauma of the explosion, the infusion of chemicals, and possibly some other unaccounted-for effect combined to make Rusty Stover stronger, more durable and faster -- much faster, than almost anyone alive. The shockwave had less of an effect on Rusty, with his perception sped up so much. The debris he could not dodge he gently nudged out of his way as he raced the flame front out of his house. When he stopped running, Rusty realized he was in Overton, nearly 300 miles distant from his home. For days of subjective time, Rusty struggled to slow down enough to interact with "realtime", stopping anywhere he could to eat or drink enough to keep away starvation and dehydration. Finally, after seeming months of living in "overtime" as he dubbed it, Rusty was finally able to slow down to normal. Realizing someone had tried to kill him (and probably thought they succeeded) Rusty went underground to discover who had ordered the blast which had "killed" him and bring him (or them) to justice, appearing in public only as "Marathon, the Fastest Man Alive!"

Green Canary

When one of the primitive planets on the border of the Avian Empire was invaded, the Avians were caught off guard. When the primitive natives threw back the assault unaided, the Imperial Defense force was astonished. At their recommendation, the Empress ordered one of the Imperial Diplomat-Police to establish a station on this border world to study the natives and prepare them for eventual induction into the empire as an allied planet. She would, as necessary, assist these primitives against further incursions, and learn of their technology and culture.

Agent Grhein'k Nairrhee is one of the best Agents of the Avian Empire's Police-Diplomacy corps. Like all of her kind, she has a knack for languages, can fly, and carries various devices concealed under her feathers which provide life support, defense (force field), and an offense that consists primarily of modulating her amplified voice to a precise frequency and focussing it in a narrow beam. Several effects are possible, ranging from a sonic stun to an armor-piercing shriek. Green Canary has a soothing, melodious voice and can't understand why humans persist in pronouncing her name wrong.

Wonder Man

Brock Kentman was a frail, sickly child who grew into a frail, sickly teenager. One day in 1937, he was introduced to Joseph L. Greenstein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Greenstein). Taking pity on the boy, Joseph shared his secret regimen of diet and exercise that had rendered him such a remarkable specimin of physical perfection. Brock immediately began training according to Greenstein's regimen, and over the course of several months became as hale and healthy as anyone who had walked the planet. Furthermore, he continued gaining strength. First he could lift an anvil. Next he could lift one end of a car by its bumper. Then he could lift the car.

One day Brock walked into a bank during a stickup. One of the gangsters turned and shot him in the head. To Brock's amazement, the flattened bullet bounced off without leaving a mark. He quickly subdued the gangsters, tying them up with their own guns, then left before anyone could get a good look at him. At eighteen he was already earning his own living as a mechanic but since the bank robberry, he has assumed the identity of Wonder Man, defender of the Meek!

Now in his late eighties, Wonder Man is still going strong. He may be gray and balding but he is still one of the most powerful men alive, and with so many years of experience, one of the wisest.
